* do_reset: unify duplicate prototypesMike Frysinger2010-11-281-1/+0
| | | | | | | The duplication of the do_reset prototype has gotten out of hand, and they're not all in sync. Unify them all in command.h. Signed-off-by: Mike Frysinger <vapier@gentoo.org>
* Rename getenv_r() into getenv_f()Wolfgang Denk2010-08-041-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | While running from flash, i. e. before relocation, we have only a limited C runtime environment without writable data segment. In this phase, some configurations (for example with environment in EEPROM) must not use the normal getenv(), but a special function. This function had been called getenv_r(), with the idea that the "_r" suffix would mean the same as in the _r_eentrant versions of some of the C library functions (for example getdate vs. getdate_r, getgrent vs. getgrent_r, etc.). Unfortunately this was a misleading name, as in U-Boot the "_r" generally means "running from RAM", i. e. _after_ relocation. To avoid confusion, rename into getenv_f() [as "running from flash"] Signed-off-by: Wolfgang Denk <wd@denx.de> Acked-by: Detlev Zundel <dzu@denx.de>
* Make sure that argv[] argument pointers are not modified.Wolfgang Denk2010-07-041-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The hush shell dynamically allocates (and re-allocates) memory for the argument strings in the "char *argv[]" argument vector passed to commands. Any code that modifies these pointers will cause serious corruption of the malloc data structures and crash U-Boot, so make sure the compiler can check that no such modifications are being done by changing the code into "char * const argv[]". This modification is the result of debugging a strange crash caused after adding a new command, which used the following argument processing code which has been working perfectly fine in all Unix systems since version 6 - but not so in U-Boot: int main (int argc, char **argv) { while (--argc > 0 && **++argv == '-') { /* ====> */ while (*++*argv) { switch (**argv) { case 'd': debug++; break; ... default: usage (); } } } ... } The line marked "====>" will corrupt the malloc data structures and usually cause U-Boot to crash when the next command gets executed by the shell. With the modification, the compiler will prevent this with an error: increment of read-only location '*argv' N.B.: The code above can be trivially rewritten like this: while (--argc > 0 && **++argv == '-') { char *arg = *argv; while (*++arg) { switch (*arg) { ... * move prototypes for gunzip() and zunzip() to common.hWolfgang Wegner2009-12-211-4/+0
| | | | | | | | Prototype for gunzip/zunzip was only in lib_generic/gunzip.c and thus repeated in every file using it. This patch moves the prototypes to common.h and removes all prototypes distributed anywhere else. Signed-off-by: Wolfgang Wegner <w.wegner@astro-kom.de>
* ppc4xx: Convert PPC4xx UIC defines from lower case to upper caseStefan Roese2009-09-281-7/+7
| | | | | | | The latest PPC4xx register cleanup patch missed the UIC defines. This patch now changes lower case UIC defines to upper case. Signed-off-by: Stefan Roese <sr@denx.de>
* ppc4xx: Big cleanup of PPC4xx definesStefan Roese2009-09-111-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch cleans up multiple issues of the 4xx register (mostly DCR, SDR, CPR, etc) definitions: - Change lower case defines to upper case (plb4_acr -> PLB4_ACR) - Change the defines to better match the names from the user's manuals (e.g. cprpllc -> CPR0_PLLC) - Removal of some unused defines Please test this patch intensive on your PPC4xx platform. Even though I tried not to break anything and tested successfully on multiple 4xx AMCC platforms, testing on custom platforms is recommended. Signed-off-by: Stefan Roese <sr@denx.de>
* General help message cleanupWolfgang Denk2009-06-121-2/+3
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Many of the help messages were not really helpful; for example, many commands that take no arguments would not print a correct synopsis line, but "No additional help available." which is not exactly wrong, but not helpful either. Commit ``Make "usage" messages more helpful.'' changed this partially. But it also became clear that lots of "Usage" and "Help" messages (fields "usage" and "help" in struct cmd_tbl_s respective) were actually redundant. This patch cleans this up - for example: Before: => help dtt dtt - Digital Thermometer and Thermostat Usage: dtt - Read temperature from digital thermometer and thermostat. After: => help dtt dtt - Read temperature from Digital Thermometer and Thermostat Usage: dtt Signed-off-by: Wolfgang Denk <wd@denx.de>
* ppc4xx: Use correct io accessors for esd 405/440 boardsMatthias Fuchs2009-03-201-5/+5
| | | | | | | | | This patch replaces in/out8/16/32 macros by in/out_8/_be16/_be32 macros. Also volatile pointer references are replaced by the new accessors. Signed-off-by: Matthias Fuchs <matthias.fuchs@esd.eu> Signed-off-by: Stefan Roese <sr@denx.de>
* Command usage cleanupPeter Tyser2009-01-281-1/+1
| | | | | | | | Remove command name from all command "usage" fields and update common/command.c to display "name - usage" instead of just "usage". Also remove newlines from command usage fields. Signed-off-by: Peter Tyser <ptyser@xes-inc.com>

* ppc4xx: Remove obsolete or unused functions from some esd boardsMatthias Fuchs2008-09-031-36/+0
| | | | | | | | | This patch removes initdram() and testdram() from most esd 405 platforms. Some boards also have an empty dummy implementation of misc_init_f(). This is also removed. Signed-off-by: Matthias Fuchs <matthias.fuchs@esd-electronics.com> Signed-off-by: Stefan Roese <sr@denx.de>
* Change initdram() return type to phys_size_tBecky Bruce2008-06-121-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch changes the return type of initdram() from long int to phys_size_t. This is required for a couple of reasons: long int limits the amount of dram to 2GB, and u-boot in general is moving over to phys_size_t to represent the size of physical memory. phys_size_t is defined as an unsigned long on almost all current platforms. This patch *only* changes the return type of the initdram function (in include/common.h, as well as in each board's implementation of initdram). It does not actually modify the code inside the function on any of the platforms; platforms which wish to support more than 2GB of DRAM will need to modify their initdram() function code. Build tested with MAKEALL for ppc, arm, mips, mips-el. Booted on powerpc MPC8641HPCN. Signed-off-by: Becky Bruce <becky.bruce@freescale.com>
