* arch: remove score portArnd Bergmann2018-03-098-1175/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The Sunplus S+core architecture was added in 2009 by Chen Liqin, who has been co-maintaining it with Lennox Wu <lennox.wu@gmail.com> since then, but after they both left the company, nobody else has shown any interest in the port and it has seen almost no activity other than tree-wide changes. The gcc port was removed a few years ago due to the inactivity. While the sunplus website still advertises products with unspecified RISC cores that might be S+core based, it's very clear that the Linux port is completely abandoned at this point. This removes all files related to the architecture. Acked-by: Lennox Wu <lennox.wu@gmail.com> Link: http://www.sunplus.com/ Signed-off-by: Arnd Bergmann <arnd@arndb.de>

| | | | | | | | | | | These files were only including module.h for exception table related functions. We've now separated that content out into its own file "extable.h" so now move over to that and avoid all the extra header content in module.h that we don't really need to compile these files. * treewide: replace obsolete _refok by __refFabian Frederick2016-08-021-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | There was only one use of __initdata_refok and __exit_refok __init_refok was used 46 times against 82 for __ref. Those definitions are obsolete since commit 312b1485fb50 ("Introduce new section reference annotations tags: __ref, __refdata, __refconst") This patch removes the following compatibility definitions and replaces them treewide. /* compatibility defines */ #define __init_refok __ref #define __initdata_refok __refdata #define __exit_refok __ref I can also provide separate patches if necessary. * mm/fault, arch: Use pagefault_disable() to check for disabled pagefaults in ↵David Hildenbrand2015-05-191-1/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | the handler Introduce faulthandler_disabled() and use it to check for irq context and disabled pagefaults (via pagefault_disable()) in the pagefault handlers. Please note that we keep the in_atomic() checks in place - to detect whether in irq context (in which case preemption is always properly disabled). In contrast, preempt_disable() should never be used to disable pagefaults. With !CONFIG_PREEMPT_COUNT, preempt_disable() doesn't modify the preempt counter, and therefore the result of in_atomic() differs. We validate that condition by using might_fault() checks when calling might_sleep(). Therefore, add a comment to faulthandler_disabled(), describing why this is needed. faulthandler_disabled() and pagefault_disable() are defined in linux/uaccess.h, so let's properly add that include to all relevant files. * vm: add VM_FAULT_SIGSEGV handling supportLinus Torvalds2015-01-291-0/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The core VM already knows about VM_FAULT_SIGBUS, but cannot return a "you should SIGSEGV" error, because the SIGSEGV case was generally handled by the caller - usually the architecture fault handler. That results in lots of duplication - all the architecture fault handlers end up doing very similar "look up vma, check permissions, do retries etc" - but it generally works. However, there are cases where the VM actually wants to SIGSEGV, and applications _expect_ SIGSEGV. In particular, when accessing the stack guard page, libsigsegv expects a SIGSEGV. And it usually got one, because the stack growth is handled by that duplicated architecture fault handler. However, when the generic VM layer started propagating the error return from the stack expansion in commit fee7e49d4514 ("mm: propagate error from stack expansion even for guard page"), that now exposed the existing VM_FAULT_SIGBUS result to user space. And user space really expected SIGSEGV, not SIGBUS. To fix that case, we need to add a VM_FAULT_SIGSEGV, and teach all those duplicate architecture fault handlers about it. They all already have the code to handle SIGSEGV, so it's about just tying that new return value to the existing code, but it's all a bit annoying. This is the mindless minimal patch to do this. A more extensive patch would be to try to gather up the mostly shared fault handling logic into one generic helper routine, and long-term we really should do that cleanup. Just from this patch, you can generally see that most architectures just copied (directly or indirectly) the old x86 way of doing things, but in the meantime that original x86 model has been improved to hold the VM semaphore for shorter times etc and to handle VM_FAULT_RETRY and other "newer" things, so it would be a good idea to bring all those improvements to the generic case and teach other architectures about them too. * arch: mm: pass userspace fault flag to generic fault handlerJohannes Weiner2013-09-121-1/+6
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Unlike global OOM handling, memory cgroup code will invoke the OOM killer in any OOM situation because it has no way of telling faults occuring in kernel context - which could be handled more gracefully - from user-triggered faults. Pass a flag that identifies faults originating in user space from the architecture-specific fault handlers to generic code so that memcg OOM handling can be improved. * arch: mm: remove obsolete init OOM protectionJohannes Weiner2013-09-121-6/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The memcg code can trap tasks in the context of the failing allocation until an OOM situation is resolved. They can hold all kinds of locks (fs, mm) at this point, which makes it prone to deadlocking. This series converts memcg OOM handling into a two step process that is started in the charge context, but any waiting is done after the fault stack is fully unwound. Patches 1-4 prepare architecture handlers to support the new memcg requirements, but in doing so they also remove old cruft and unify out-of-memory behavior across architectures. Patch 5 disables the memcg OOM handling for syscalls, readahead, kernel faults, because they can gracefully unwind the stack with -ENOMEM. OOM handling is restricted to user triggered faults that have no other option. Patch 6 reworks memcg's hierarchical OOM locking to make it a little more obvious wth is going on in there: reduce locked regions, rename locking functions, reorder and document. Patch 7 implements the two-part OOM handling such that tasks are never trapped with the full charge stack in an OOM situation. This patch: Back before smart OOM killing, when faulting tasks were killed directly on allocation failures, the arch-specific fault handlers needed special protection for the init process. Now that all fault handlers call into the generic OOM killer (see commit 609838cfed97: "mm: invoke oom-killer from remaining unconverted page fault handlers"), which already provides init protection, the arch-specific leftovers can be removed. * score: delete __cpuinit usage from all score filesPaul Gortmaker2013-07-141-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The __cpuinit type of throwaway sections might have made sense some time ago when RAM was more constrained, but now the savings do not offset the cost and complications. For example, the fix in commit 5e427ec2d0 ("x86: Fix bit corruption at CPU resume time") is a good example of the nasty type of bugs that can be created with improper use of the various __init prefixes. After a discussion on LKML[1] it was decided that cpuinit should go the way of devinit and be phased out. Once all the users are gone, we can then finally remove the macros themselves from linux/init.h. Note that some harmless section mismatch warnings may result, since notify_cpu_starting() and cpu_up() are arch independent (kernel/cpu.c) are flagged as __cpuinit -- so if we remove the __cpuinit from arch specific callers, we will also get section mismatch warnings. As an intermediate step, we intend to turn the linux/init.h cpuinit content into no-ops as early as possible, since that will get rid of these warnings. In any case, they are temporary and harmless. This removes all the arch/score uses of the __cpuinit macros from all C files. Currently score does not have any __CPUINIT used in assembly files. * mm: invoke oom-killer from remaining unconverted page fault handlersJohannes Weiner2013-07-091-4/+4
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | A few remaining architectures directly kill the page faulting task in an out of memory situation. This is usually not a good idea since that task might not even use a significant amount of memory and so may not be the optimal victim to resolve the situation. Since 2.6.29's 1c0fe6e ("mm: invoke oom-killer from page fault") there is a hook that architecture page fault handlers are supposed to call to invoke the OOM killer and let it pick the right task to kill. Convert the remaining architectures over to this hook. To have the previous behavior of simply taking out the faulting task the vm.oom_kill_allocating_task sysctl can be set to 1. * include cleanup: Update gfp.h and slab.h includes to prepare for breaking ↵Tejun Heo2010-03-301-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | implicit slab.h inclusion from percpu.h percpu.h is included by sched.h and module.h and thus ends up being included when building most .c files. percpu.h includes slab.h which in turn includes gfp.h making everything defined by the two files universally available and complicating inclusion dependencies. percpu.h -> slab.h dependency is about to be removed. Prepare for this change by updating users of gfp and slab facilities include those headers directly instead of assuming availability. As this conversion needs to touch large number of source files, the following script is used as the basis of conversion. http://userweb.kernel.org/~tj/misc/slabh-sweep.py The script does the followings. * Scan files for gfp and slab usages and update includes such that only the necessary includes are there. ie. if only gfp is used, gfp.h, if slab is used, slab.h. * When the script inserts a new include, it looks at the include blocks and try to put the new include such that its order conforms to its surrounding. It's put in the include block which contains core kernel includes, in the same order that the rest are ordered - alphabetical, Christmas tree, rev-Xmas-tree or at the end if there doesn't seem to be any matching order. * If the script can't find a place to put a new include (mostly because the file doesn't have fitting include block), it prints out an error message indicating which .h file needs to be added to the file. The conversion was done in the following steps. 1. The initial automatic conversion of all .c files updated slightly over 4000 files, deleting around 700 includes and adding ~480 gfp.h and ~3000 slab.h inclusions. The script emitted errors for ~400 files. 2. Each error was manually checked. Some didn't need the inclusion, some needed manual addition while adding it to implementation .h or embedding .c file was more appropriate for others. This step added inclusions to around 150 files. 3. The script was run again and the output was compared to the edits from #2 to make sure no file was left behind. 4. Several build tests were done and a couple of problems were fixed. e.g. lib/decompress_*.c used malloc/free() wrappers around slab APIs requiring slab.h to be added manually. 5. The script was run on all .h files but without automatically editing them as sprinkling gfp.h and slab.h inclusions around .h files could easily lead to inclusion dependency hell. Most gfp.h inclusion directives were ignored as stuff from gfp.h was usually wildly available and often used in preprocessor macros. Each slab.h inclusion directive was examined and added manually as necessary. 6. percpu.h was updated not to include slab.h. 7. Build test were done on the following configurations and failures were fixed. CONFIG_GCOV_KERNEL was turned off for all tests (as my distributed build env didn't work with gcov compiles) and a few more options had to be turned off depending on archs to make things build (like ipr on powerpc/64 which failed due to missing writeq). * x86 and x86_64 UP and SMP allmodconfig and a custom test config. * powerpc and powerpc64 SMP allmodconfig * sparc and sparc64 SMP allmodconfig * ia64 SMP allmodconfig * s390 SMP allmodconfig * alpha SMP allmodconfig * um on x86_64 SMP allmodconfig 8. percpu.h modifications were reverted so that it could be applied as a separate patch and serve as bisection point. Given the fact that I had only a couple of failures from tests on step 6, I'm fairly confident about the coverage of this conversion patch. If there is a breakage, it's likely to be something in one of the arch headers which should be easily discoverable easily on most builds of the specific arch.
