* firmware: revamp firmware documentationLuis R. Rodriguez2017-01-111-128/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | Understanding this code is getting out of control without any notes. Give the firmware_class driver a much needed documentation love, and while at it convert it to the new sphinx documentation format. v2: typos and small fixes Signed-off-by: Luis R. Rodriguez <mcgrof@kernel.org> Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@linuxfoundation.org>
* Documentation: fix common spelling mistakesKees Cook2016-04-281-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | This fixes several spelling mistakes in the Documentation/ tree, which are caught by checkpatch.pl's spell checking. * doc: fix minor typos in firmware_class READMEKees Cook2014-07-171-3/+3
| | | | | | | This is a tiny clean up for typos in the firmware_class README. Signed-off-by: Kees Cook <keescook@chromium.org> Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@linuxfoundation.org>
* firmware loader: document firmware cache mechanismMing Lei2012-11-141-0/+7
| | | | | | | | | | | This patch documents the firmware cache mechanism so that users of request_firmware() know that it can be called safely inside device's suspend and resume callback, and the device's firmware needn't be cached any more by individual driver itself to deal with firmware loss during system resume. * firmware loader: introduce module parameter to customize(v4) fw search pathMing Lei2012-11-141-0/+5
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch introduces one module parameter of 'path' in firmware_class to support customizing firmware image search path, so that people can use its own firmware path if the default built-in paths can't meet their demand[1], and the typical usage is passing the below from kernel command parameter when 'firmware_class' is built in kernel: firmware_class.path=$CUSTOMIZED_PATH [1], https://lkml.org/lkml/2012/10/11/337 Cc: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org> Signed-off-by: Ming Lei <ming.lei@canonical.com> Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@linuxfoundation.org>
* firmware loader: document kernel direct loadingMing Lei2012-10-251-9/+17
| | | | | | | | | This patch adds description on recently introduced direct firmware loading by Linus. Cc: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org> Signed-off-by: Ming Lei <ming.lei@canonical.com> Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@linuxfoundation.org>
* driver core: fix documentation of request_firmware_nowaitMing Lei2009-06-151-1/+2
| | | | | | | | | | request_firmware_nowait declares it can be called in non-sleep contexts, but kthead_run called by request_firmware_nowait may sleep. So fix its documentation and comment to make callers clear about it. Signed-off-by: Ming Lei <tom.leiming@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@suse.de>
* firmware: remove orphaned EmailMarkus Rechberger2007-06-081-1/+1

He was in charge of the firmware_class code, and still got CC'ed in recent discussions about it. Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
