Remove VLA usage and change the 'len' argument to a u8 and use a 256
byte buffer on the stack. Notice that these lengths are limited by the
encoding field in the VPD structure, which is a u8 [1].

The vpd strings are left justified, in a fixed length array, with possible
trailing white space and no NUL. So fix them up before calling kstrto*().
This is a recent regression which causes cxgb3 to fail to load.

To test a checkpatch spelling patch, I ran codespell against
drivers/net/ethernet/.
$ git ls-files drivers/net/ethernet/ | \
while read file ; do \
codespell -w $file; \
done
I removed a false positive in e1000_hw.h

breaks, incorrect separators, and some name mismatches. Delete
a few that are content-free.
