* arch/powerpc: Move dma_mask from of_device into pdev_archdataGrant Likely2010-05-221-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | By moving dma_mask into pdev_archdata, and adding archdata to struct of_device, it makes it possible to substitute of_device with struct platform_device, which is a stepping stone to removing the of_platform bus entirely. Signed-off-by: Grant Likely <grant.likely@secretlab.ca>
* of: eliminate of_device->node and dev_archdata->{of,prom}_nodeGrant Likely2010-05-181-3/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch eliminates the node pointer from struct of_device and the of_node (or prom_node) pointer from struct dev_archdata since the node pointer is now part of struct device proper when CONFIG_OF is set, and all users of the old pointer locations have already been converted over to use device->of_node. Also remove dev_archdata_{get,set}_node() as it is no longer used by anything. Signed-off-by: Grant Likely <grant.likely@secretlab.ca>
* of: Always use 'struct device.of_node' to get device node pointer.Grant Likely2010-05-181-4/+4
| | | | | | | | | | | | The following structure elements duplicate the information in 'struct device.of_node' and so are being eliminated. This patch makes all readers of these elements use device.of_node instead. (struct of_device *)->node (struct dev_archdata *)->prom_node (sparc) (struct dev_archdata *)->of_node (powerpc & microblaze) Signed-off-by: Grant Likely <grant.likely@secretlab.ca>
* driver-core: Add device node pointer to struct deviceGrant Likely2010-04-281-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Currently, platforms using CONFIG_OF add a 'struct device_node *of_node' to dev->archdata. However, with CONFIG_OF becoming generic for all architectures, it makes sense for commonality to move it out of archdata and into struct device proper. This patch adds a struct device_node *of_node member to struct device and updates all locations which currently write the device_node pointer into archdata to also update dev->of_node. Subsequent patches will modify callers to use the archdata location and ultimately remove the archdata member entirely. * OF-device: Don't overwrite numa_node in device registrationJeremy Kerr2008-10-311-1/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Currently, the numa_node of OF-devices will be overwritten during device_register, which simply sets the node to -1. On cell machines, this means that devices can't find their IOMMU, which is referenced through the device's numa node. Set the numa node for OF devices with no parent, and use the lower-level device_initialize and device_add functions, so that the node is preserved. We can remove the call to set_dev_node in of_device_alloc, as it will be overwritten during register. Signed-off-by: Jeremy Kerr <jk@ozlabs.org> Signed-off-by: Paul Mackerras <paulus@samba.org>

| | | | | | | | | | | | Commit 140b932f8cb6cced10b96860651a198b1b89cbb9 ("Create modalias file in sysfs for of_platform bus") needs this to avoid breaking the sparc builds. * [POWERPC] Move of_device allocation into of_device.[ch]Joachim Fenkes2007-10-171-0/+80
| | | | | | | | | | | | | Extract generic of_device allocation code from of_platform_device_create() and move it into of_device.[ch], called of_device_alloc(). Also, there's now of_device_free() which puts the device node. This way, bus drivers that build on of_platform (like ibmebus will) can build upon this code instead of reinventing the wheel. * Driver core: change add_uevent_var to use a structKay Sievers2007-10-121-26/+11
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This changes the uevent buffer functions to use a struct instead of a long list of parameters. It does no longer require the caller to do the proper buffer termination and size accounting, which is currently wrong in some places. It fixes a known bug where parts of the uevent environment are overwritten because of wrong index calculations. Many thanks to Mathieu Desnoyers for finding bugs and improving the error handling. * Begin to consolidate of_device.cStephen Rothwell2007-07-201-121/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | This moves all the common parts for the Sparc, Sparc64 and PowerPC of_device.c files into drivers/of/device.c. Apart from the simple move, Sparc gains of_match_node() and a call to of_node_put in of_release_dev(). PowerPC gains better recovery if device_create_file() fails in of_device_register(). * [POWERPC] Export of_device_get_modaliasSylvain Munaut2007-05-071-2/+3

* [POWERPC] Add a unified uevent handler for bus based on of_deviceSylvain Munaut2007-04-131-0/+112
| | | | | | | | | | | | | This common uevent handler allow the several bus types based on of_device to generate the uevent properly and avoiding code duplication. * [POWERPC] Souped-up of_platform_device supportBenjamin Herrenschmidt2006-12-041-145/+27
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch first splits of_device.c and of_platform.c, the later containing the bits relative to of_platform_device's. On the "breaks" side of things, drivers uisng of_platform_device(s) need to include asm/of_platform.h now and of_(un)register_driver is now of_(un)register_platform_driver. In addition to a few utility functions to locate of_platform_device(s), the main new addition is of_platform_bus_probe() which allows the platform code to trigger an automatic creation of of_platform_devices for a whole tree of devices. The function acts based on the type of the various "parent" devices encountered from a provided root, using either a default known list of bus types that can be "probed" or a passed-in list. It will only register devices on busses matching that list, which mean that typically, it will not register PCI devices, as expected (since they will be picked up by the PCI layer). This will be used by Cell platforms using 4xx-type IOs in the Axon bridge and can be used by any embedded-type device as well. * [POWERPC] Remove linux,device propertiesJeremy Kerr2006-07-071-24/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | The linux,device property isn't used anywhere within the kernel, and since it's a kernel pointer, it's a little useless for userspace.
