| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | In some scenarios, such as buggy guest or incorrect configuration of the VMM and firmware description data, userspace will detect a memory access to a portion of the IPA, which is not mapped to any MMIO region. For this purpose, the appropriate action is to inject an external abort to the guest. The kernel already has functionality to inject an external abort, but we need to wire up a signal from user space that lets user space tell the kernel to do this. It turns out, we already have the set event functionality which we can perfectly reuse for this. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | While parts of the VGIC support a large number of vcpus (we bravely allow up to 512), other parts are more limited. One of these limits is visible in the KVM_IRQ_LINE ioctl, which only allows 256 vcpus to be signalled when using the CPU or PPI types. Unfortunately, we've cornered ourselves badly by allocating all the bits in the irq field. Since the irq_type subfield (8 bit wide) is currently only taking the values 0, 1 and 2 (and we have been careful not to allow anything else), let's reduce this field to only 4 bits, and allocate the remaining 4 bits to a vcpu2_index, which acts as a multiplier: vcpu_id = 256 * vcpu2_index + vcpu_index With that, and a new capability (KVM_CAP_ARM_IRQ_LINE_LAYOUT_2) allowing this to be discovered, it becomes possible to inject PPIs to up to 4096 vcpus. But please just don't. Whilst we're there, add a clarification about the use of KVM_IRQ_LINE on arm, which is not completely conditionned by KVM_CAP_IRQCHIP. If we want to migrate such a guest to a host with a different support level for those workarounds, migration might need to fail, to ensure that critical guests don't loose their protection. Introduce a way for userland to save and restore the workarounds state. On restoring we do checks that make sure we don't downgrade our mitigation level. According to my analysis of Linux 5.1-rc1, there are 3 groups: [1] Both <linux/kvm_para.h> and <asm/kvm_para.h> are exported alpha, arm, hexagon, mips, powerpc, s390, sparc, x86 [2] <asm/kvm_para.h> is exported, but <linux/kvm_para.h> is not arc, arm64, c6x, h8300, ia64, m68k, microblaze, nios2, openrisc, parisc, sh, unicore32, xtensa [3] Neither <linux/kvm_para.h> nor <asm/kvm_para.h> is exported csky, nds32, riscv This does not match to the actual KVM support. At least, [2] is half-baked. Nor do arch maintainers look like they care about this. For example, commit 0add53713b1c ("microblaze: Add missing kvm_para.h to Kbuild") exported <asm/kvm_para.h> to user-space in order to fix an in-kernel build error. We have two ways to make this consistent: [A] export both <linux/kvm_para.h> and <asm/kvm_para.h> for all architectures, irrespective of the KVM support [B] Match the header export of <linux/kvm_para.h> and <asm/kvm_para.h> to the KVM support My first attempt was [A] because the code looks cleaner, but Paolo suggested [B]. So, this commit goes with [B]. For most architectures, <asm/kvm_para.h> was moved to the kernel-space. I changed include/uapi/linux/Kbuild so that it checks generated asm/kvm_para.h as well as check-in ones. This is no different from doing a firmware upgrade on KVM. But in order to give a chance to hypothetical badly implemented guests that would have a fit by discovering something other than PSCI 0.2, let's provide a new API that allows userspace to pick one particular version of the API. This is implemented as a new class of "firmware" registers, where we expose the PSCI version. This allows the PSCI version to be save/restored as part of a guest migration, and also set to any supported version if the guest requires it. Define that bit 28 in this encoding indicates secure vs nonsecure, so we can distinguish the secure and nonsecure banked versions of a banked AArch32 register. For KVM currently, all guest registers are nonsecure, but defining the bit is useful for userspace. In particular, QEMU uses this encoding as part of its on-the-wire migration format, and needs to be able to describe secure-bank registers when it is migrating (fully emulated) EL3-enabled CPUs. Posix and common sense requires that SI_USER not be a signal specific si_code. As such this use of 0 for the si_code is a pretty horribly broken ABI. Further use of si_code == 0 guaranteed that copy_siginfo_to_user saw a value of __SI_KILL and now sees a value of SIL_KILL with the result that uid and pid fields are copied and which might copying the si_addr field by accident but certainly not by design. Making this a very flakey implementation. Utilizing FPE_FIXME, siginfo_layout will now return SIL_FAULT and the appropriate fields will be reliably copied. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Commit 0515e5999a466dfe ("bpf: introduce BPF_PROG_TYPE_PERF_EVENT program type") introduced the bpf_perf_event_data structure which exports the pt_regs structure. This is OK for multiple architectures but fail for s390 and arm64 which do not export pt_regs. Programs using them, for example, the bpf selftest fail to compile on these architectures. For s390, exporting the pt_regs is not an option because s390 wants to allow changes to it. For arm64, there is a user_pt_regs structure that covers parts of the pt_regs structure for use by user space. To solve the broken uapi for s390 and arm64, introduce an abstract type for pt_regs and add an asm/bpf_perf_event.h file that concretes the type. An asm-generic header file covers the architectures that export pt_regs today. The arch-specific enablement for s390 and arm64 follows in separate commits. GPL/LGPL licensed headers get the matching GPL/LGPL SPDX license identifier with the added 'WITH Linux-syscall-note' exception, which is the officially assigned exception identifier for the kernel syscall exception: NOTE! This copyright does *not* cover user programs that use kernel services by normal system calls - this is merely considered normal use of the kernel, and does *not* fall under the heading of "derived work". This exception makes it possible to include GPL headers into non GPL code, without confusing license compliance tools. Headers which have either explicit dual licensing or are just licensed under a non GPL license are updated with the corresponding SPDX identifier and the GPLv2 with syscall exception identifier. How this work was done: Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of the use cases: - file had no licensing information it it. - file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it, - file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information, Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords. The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files. The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s) to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was: - Files considered eligible had to be source code files. - Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5 lines of source - File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5 lines). All documentation files were explicitly excluded. The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license identifiers to apply. - when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was considered to have no license information in it, and the top level COPYING file license applied. For non */uapi/* files that summary was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 11139 and resulted in the first patch in this series. If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results of that was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 930 and resulted in the second patch in this series. - if a file had some form of licensing information in it, and was one of the */uapi/* ones, it was denoted with the Linux-syscall-note if any GPL family license was found in the file or had no licensing in it (per prior point). Results summary: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------ GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 270 GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 169 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-2-Clause) 21 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 17 LGPL-2.1+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 15 GPL-1.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 14 ((GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 5 LGPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 4 LGPL-2.1 WITH Linux-syscall-note 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR MIT) 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) AND MIT) 1 and that resulted in the third patch in this series. - when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became the concluded license(s). - when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a license but the other didn't, or they both detected different licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred. - In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics). - When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. - If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier, the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later in time. In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so they are related. Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks in about 15000 files. In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the correct identifier. Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch version early this week with: - a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected license ids and scores - reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+ files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct - reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the different types of files to be modified. These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to generate the patches. We can either handle them all using hardware acceleration through the vgic or we can emulate a gic in user space and only drive CPU IRQ pins from there. Unfortunately, when driving IRQs from user space, we never tell user space about events from devices emulated inside the kernel, which may result in interrupt line state changes, so we lose out on for example timer and PMU events if we run with user space gic emulation. Define an ABI to publish such device output levels to userspace. The cpu MPIDR value is passed along with register id. It is used to identify the cpu for registers access. The VM that supports SEIs expect it on destination machine to handle guest aborts and hence checked for ICC_CTLR_EL1.SEIS compatibility. Similarly, VM that supports Affinity Level 3 that is required for AArch64 mode, is required to be supported on destination machine. Hence checked for ICC_CTLR_EL1.A3V compatibility. The arch/arm64/kvm/vgic-sys-reg-v3.c handles read and write of VGIC CPU registers for AArch64. For AArch32 mode, arch/arm/kvm/vgic-v3-coproc.c file is created but APIs are not implemented. Updated arch/arm/include/uapi/asm/kvm.h with new definitions required to compile for AArch32. This means that rather than having to edit three places (asm/unistd.h for the total number of system calls, uapi/asm/unistd.h for the system call numbers, and arch/arm/kernel/calls.S for the call table) we have only one place to edit, making the process much more simple. The scripts have knowledge of the table padding requirements, so there's no need to worry about __NR_syscalls not fitting within the immediate constant field of ALU instructions anymore.
