* TTY: add tty_port_tty_wakeup helperJiri Slaby2013-03-1822-176/+51
| | | | | | | | | | | | It allows for cleaning up on a considerable amount of places. They did port_get, wakeup, kref_put. Now the only thing needed is to call tty_port_tty_wakeup which does exactly that. One exception is ifx6x60 where tty_wakeup was open-coded. We now call tty_wakeup properly there. | | | | | | | | | Do not dig struct smd_tty_info out of tty_struct using tty_port_tty_get. It is unnecessarily too complicated, use simple container_of instead. Signed-off-by: Jiri Slaby <jslaby@suse.cz> Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@linuxfoundation.org>
* TTY: do not warn about setting speed via SPD_*Jiri Slaby2013-03-182-30/+16
| | | | | | | | | | | The warning is there since 2.1.69 and we have not seen anybody reporting it in the past decade. Remove the warning now. tty_get_baud_rate can now be inline. This gives us one less EXPORT_SYMBOL. Signed-off-by: Jiri Slaby <jslaby@suse.cz> Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@linuxfoundation.org>

* n_tty: Lock access to tty->pgrp for POSIX job controlPeter Hurley2013-03-181-16/+18
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Concurrent access to tty->pgrp must be protected with tty->ctrl_lock. Also, as noted in the comments, reading current->signal->tty is safe because either, 1) current->signal->tty is assigned by current, or 2) current->signal->tty is set to NULL. NB: for reference, tty_check_change() implements a similar POSIX check for the ioctls corresponding to tcflush(), tcdrain(), tcsetattr(), tcsetpgrp(), tcflow() and tcsendbreak(). * n_tty: Fix unsafe driver-side signalsPeter Hurley2013-03-181-20/+14
| | | | | | | | | | | | | An ldisc reference is insufficient guarantee the foreground process group is not in the process of being signalled from a hangup. 1) Reads of tty->pgrp must be locked with ctrl_lock 2) The group pid must be referenced for the duration of signalling. Because the driver-side is not process-context, a pid reference must be acquired. Signed-off-by: Peter Hurley <peter@hurleysoftware.com> Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@linuxfoundation.org>
* n_tty: Fix stuck throttled driverPeter Hurley2013-03-181-11/+17
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | As noted in the following comment: /* FIXME: there is a tiny race here if the receive room check runs before the other work executes and empties the buffer (upping the receiving room and unthrottling. We then throttle and get stuck. This has been observed and traced down by Vincent Pillet/ We need to address this when we sort out out the rx path locking */ Use new safe throttle/unthrottle functions to re-evaluate conditions if interrupted by the complement flow control function. * tty: Add safe tty throttle/unthrottle functionsPeter Hurley2013-03-182-0/+82
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The tty driver can become stuck throttled due to race conditions between throttle and unthrottle, when the decision to throttle or unthrottle is conditional. The following example helps to illustrate the race: CPU 0 | CPU 1 | if (condition A) | | <processing such that A not true> | if (!condition A) | unthrottle() throttle() | | Note the converse is also possible; ie., CPU 0 | CPU 1 | | if (!condition A) <processing such that A true> | if (condition A) | throttle() | | unthrottle() | Add new throttle/unthrottle functions based on the familiar model of task state and schedule/wake. For example, while (1) { tty_set_flow_change(tty, TTY_THROTTLE_SAFE); if (!condition) break; if (!tty_throttle_safe(tty)) break; } __tty_set_flow_change(tty, 0); In this example, if an unthrottle occurs after the condition is evaluated but before tty_throttle_safe(), then tty_throttle_safe() will return non-zero, looping and forcing the re-evaluation of condition. * tty: Signal SIGHUP before hanging up ldiscPeter Hurley2013-03-151-5/+5
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | An exiting session leader can hang if a foreground process is blocking for line discipline i/o, eg. in n_tty_read(). This happens because the blocking reader is holding an ldisc reference (indicating the line discipline is in-use) which prevents __tty_hangup() from recycling the line discipline. Although waiters are woken before attempting to gain exclusive access for changing the ldisc, the blocking reader in this case will not exit the i/o loop since it has not yet received SIGHUP (because it has not been sent). Instead, perform signalling first, then recycle the line discipline. Fixes: INFO: task init:1 blocked for more than 120 seconds. * tty: Signal foreground group processes in hangupPeter Hurley2013-03-151-17/+48
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | When the session leader is exiting, signal the foreground group processes as part of the hangup sequence, instead of after the hangup is complete. This prepares for hanging up the line discipline _after_ signalling processes which may be blocking on ldisc i/o. Parameterize __tty_hangup() to distinguish between when the session leader is exiting and all other hangups; signal the foreground group after signalling the session leader and its process group, which preserves the original signal order. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Update proc_ns_follow_link to use nd_jump_link instead of just manually updating nd.path.dentry. This fixes the BUG_ON(nd->inode != parent->d_inode) reported by Dave Jones and reproduced trivially with mkdir /proc/self/ns/uts/a. Sigh it looks like the VFS change to require use of nd_jump_link happend while proc_ns_follow_link was baking and since the common case of proc_ns_follow_link continued to work without problems the need for making this change was overlooked. A common practice is to build all of the kernel code and leave code that is not commonly needed as modules, with the result that many users are exposed to any bug anywhere in the kernel. Looking for filesystems with a fs- prefix limits the pool of possible modules that can be loaded by mount to just filesystems trivially making things safer with no real cost. Using aliases means user space can control the policy of which filesystem modules are auto-loaded by editing /etc/modprobe.d/*.conf with blacklist and alias directives. Allowing simple, safe, well understood work-arounds to known problematic software. This also addresses a rare but unfortunate problem where the filesystem name is not the same as it's module name and module auto-loading would not work. While writing this patch I saw a handful of such cases. The most significant being autofs that lives in the module autofs4. This is relevant to user namespaces because we can reach the request module in get_fs_type() without having any special permissions, and people get uncomfortable when a user specified string (in this case the filesystem type) goes all of the way to request_module. After having looked at this issue I don't think there is any particular reason to perform any filtering or permission checks beyond making it clear in the module request that we want a filesystem module. The common pattern in the kernel is to call request_module() without regards to the users permissions. In general all a filesystem module does once loaded is call register_filesystem() and go to sleep. Which means there is not much attack surface exposed by loading a filesytem module unless the filesystem is mounted. In a user namespace filesystems are not mounted unless .fs_flags = FS_USERNS_MOUNT, which most filesystems do not set today. Which is totally silly as new->user_ns is NULL (as is every other field in new except session_keyring at that point). The intent is clearly to copy all of the fields from old to new so copy old->user_ns into into new->user_ns. * | Atmel MXT touchscreen: increase reset timeoutsLinus Torvalds2013-03-091-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | There is a more complete atmel patch-series out by Nick Dyer that fixes this and other things, but in the meantime this is the minimal thing to get the touchscreen going on (at least my) Pixel Chromebook. Not that I want my dirty fingers near that beautiful screen, but it seems that a non-initialized touchscreen will also end up being a constant wakeup source, so you have to disable it to go to sleep. And it's easier to just fix the initialization sequence. Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>

| * | Btrfs: improve the delayed inode throttlingChris Mason2013-03-072-61/+92
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The delayed inode code batches up changes to the btree in hopes of doing them in bulk. As the changes build up, processes kick off worker threads and wait for them to make progress. The current code kicks off an async work queue item for each delayed node, which creates a lot of churn. It also uses a fixed 1 HZ waiting period for the throttle, which allows us to build a lot of pending work and can slow down the commit. This changes us to watch a sequence counter as it is bumped during the operations. We kick off fewer work items and have each work item do more work. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Commit 5ac00add added a testnset mutex and code that disallows running administrative tasks in parallel. At the end of the transaction commitment, the transaction handler was freed, so we should not access it after the transaction commitment. - we were not aware of the error which happened during the snapshot creation if we submitted a async transaction commitment. - pending snapshot access vs pending snapshot free. when something wrong happened after we submitted a async transaction commitment, the transaction committer would cleanup the pending snapshots and free them. But the snapshot creators were not aware of it, they would access the freed pending snapshots. This patch fixes the above problems by: - remove the dangerous code that accessed the freed handler - assign ->error if the error happens during the snapshot creation - the transaction committer doesn't free the pending snapshots, just assigns the error number and evicts them before we unblock the transaction. | |/ / | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Commit 24542bf7ea5e4fdfdb5157ff544c093fa4dcb536 changed preallocation of extents to cap the max size we try to allocate. It's a valid change, but the extent reservation code is also used by balance, and that can't tolerate a smaller extent being allocated. __btrfs_prealloc_file_range already has a min_size parameter, which is used by relocation to request a specific extent size. This commit adds an extra check to enforce that minimum extent size. Signed-off-by: Chris Mason <chris.mason@fusionio.com> Reported-by: Stefan Behrens <sbehrens@giantdisaster.de>
