* [llvm-readobj][test] - Cleanup and split tests in tools/llvm-readobj folder.Georgii Rymar2019-12-121-994/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | tools/llvm-readobj currently contains tests that are either general for all file types or that mix file types inside. This patch refactors these test and leaves only general tests in that folder. All other tests were moved to ELF/COFF/MachO and wasm accordingly. I tried to minimize amount of changes, so most of the test parts remained unchanged. Any further refactorings and improvements for particular tests should be done independently from this patch. * [llvm-readobj][test] - Move platform specific test cases and their inputs to ↵Georgii Rymar2019-12-101-13/+13
| | | | | | | | | | | | separate folders. This creates the next subfolders in the test directory: "COFF", "ELF", "MachO", "wasm". I've also removed platform specific prefixes, like "coff-*". One unused binary was removed as well: `Inputs/relocs.obj.elf-mips` Differential revision: https://reviews.llvm.org/D71203
* [llvm-readobj][MachO] Fix section type printingSeiya Nuta2019-08-151-20/+20

* [llvm-readobj] Change -long-option to --long-option in tests. NFCFangrui Song2019-05-011-13/+13
| | | | | | | | | | We use both -long-option and --long-option in tests. Switch to --long-option for consistency. In the "llvm-readelf" mode, -long-option is discouraged as it conflicts with grouped short options and it is not accepted by GNU readelf. While updating the tests, change llvm-readobj -s to llvm-readobj -S to reduce confusion ("s" is --section-headers in llvm-readobj but --symbols in llvm-readelf). llvm-svn: 359649
* [llvm-readobj] Display section names for STT_SECTION symbols.Matt Davis2019-03-011-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Summary: This patch will obtain the section name for symbols that refer to a section. Prior to this patch the Name field for STT_SECTIONs was blank, now it is populated. Before: ``` Symbol table '.symtab' contains 6 entries: Num: Value Size Type Bind Vis Ndx Name 0: 0000000000000000 0 NOTYPE LOCAL DEFAULT UND 1: 0000000000000000 0 SECTION LOCAL DEFAULT 1 2: 0000000000000000 0 SECTION LOCAL DEFAULT 3 3: 0000000000000000 0 SECTION LOCAL DEFAULT 4 4: 0000000000000000 0 NOTYPE GLOBAL DEFAULT UND _GLOBAL_OFFSET_TABLE_ 5: 0000000000000000 0 TLS GLOBAL DEFAULT UND sym ``` With this patch: ``` Symbol table '.symtab' contains 6 entries: Num: Value Size Type Bind Vis Ndx Name 0: 0000000000000000 0 NOTYPE LOCAL DEFAULT UND 1: 0000000000000000 0 SECTION LOCAL DEFAULT 1 .text 2: 0000000000000000 0 SECTION LOCAL DEFAULT 3 .data 3: 0000000000000000 0 SECTION LOCAL DEFAULT 4 .bss 4: 0000000000000000 0 NOTYPE GLOBAL DEFAULT UND _GLOBAL_OFFSET_TABLE_ 5: 0000000000000000 0 TLS GLOBAL DEFAULT UND sym ``` This fixes PR40788 Reviewers: jhenderson, rupprecht, espindola Reviewed By: rupprecht Subscribers: emaste, javed.absar, arichardson, MaskRay, llvm-commits Tags: #llvm Differential Revision: https://reviews.llvm.org/D58796 llvm-svn: 355207
* [llvm-readelf] Allow single-letter flags to be merged.Jordan Rupprecht2019-01-151-0/+14
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Summary: This patch adds support for merged arguments (e.g. -SW == -S -W) for llvm-readelf. No changes are intended for llvm-readobj. There are a few short flags (-sd, -sr, -st, -dt) that would conflict with grouped single letter flags, and having only some grouped flags might be confusing. So, allow merged flags for readelf compatibility, but force separate args for llvm-readobj. From what I can tell, these two-letter flags are only used with llvm-readobj, not llvm-readelf. This fixes PR40064. Reviewers: jhenderson, kristina, echristo, phosek Reviewed By: jhenderson Subscribers: llvm-commits Differential Revision: https://reviews.llvm.org/D56629 llvm-svn: 351205

* Improve the --expand-relocs handling of MachO.Rafael Espindola2015-06-181-84/+26
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | In a relocation target can take 3 basic forms * A r_value in scattered relocations. * A symbol in external relocations. * A section is non-external relocations. Have the dump reflect that. With this change we go from CHECK-NEXT: Extern: 0 CHECK-NEXT: Type: X86_64_RELOC_SUBTRACTOR (5) CHECK-NEXT: Symbol: 0x2 CHECK-NEXT: Scattered: 0 To just // CHECK-NEXT: Type: X86_64_RELOC_SUBTRACTOR (5) // CHECK-NEXT: Section: __data (2) Since the relocation is with a section, we print the seciton name and don't need to say that it is not scattered or external. Someone motivated can add further special cases for things like ARM64_RELOC_ADDEND and ARM_RELOC_PAIR. llvm-svn: 240073

* Fix the interpretation of a 0 st_name.Rafael Espindola2015-06-031-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | The ELF spec is very clear: ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- If the value is non-zero, it represents a string table index that gives the symbol name. Otherwise, the symbol table entry has no name. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- In particular, a st_name of 0 most certainly doesn't mean that the symbol has the same name as the section. llvm-svn: 238899
* Object: Add support for bigobjDavid Majnemer2014-09-101-1/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This adds support for reading the "bigobj" variant of COFF produced by cl's /bigobj and mingw's -mbig-obj. The most significant difference that bigobj brings is more than 2**16 sections to COFF. bigobj brings a few interesting differences with it: - It doesn't have a Characteristics field in the file header. - It doesn't have a SizeOfOptionalHeader field in the file header (it's only used in executable files). - Auxiliary symbol records have the same width as a symbol table entry. Since symbol table entries are bigger, so are auxiliary symbol records. Write support will come soon. Differential Revision: http://reviews.llvm.org/D5259 llvm-svn: 217496
* llvm-readobj: fix MachO relocatoin printing a bit.Tim Northover2014-07-041-26/+26
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | There were two issues here: 1. At the very least, scattered relocations cannot use the same code to determine the corresponding symbol being referred to. For some reason we pretend there is no symbol, even when one actually exists in the symtab, so to match this behaviour getRelocationSymbol should simply return symbols_end for scattered relocations. 2. Printing "-" when we can't get a symbol (including the scattered case, but not exclusively), isn't that helpful. In both cases there *is* interesting information in that field, so we should print it. As hex will do. Small part of rdar://problem/17553104 llvm-svn: 212332

* Change how we iterate over relocations on ELF.Rafael Espindola2013-05-301-4/+26
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | For COFF and MachO, sections semantically have relocations that apply to them. That is not the case on ELF. In relocatable objects (.o), a section with relocations in ELF has offsets to another section where the relocations should be applied. In dynamic objects and executables, relocations don't have an offset, they have a virtual address. The section sh_info may or may not point to another section, but that is not actually used for resolving the relocations. This patch exposes that in the ObjectFile API. It has the following advantages: * Most (all?) clients can handle this more efficiently. They will normally walk all relocations, so doing an effort to iterate in a particular order doesn't save time. * llvm-readobj now prints relocations in the same way the native readelf does. * probably most important, relocations that don't point to any section are now visible. This is the case of relocations in the rela.dyn section. See the updated relocation-executable.test for example. llvm-svn: 182908
* Use pointers to iterate over symbols.Rafael Espindola2013-04-241-26/+26
| | | | | | | | While here, don't report a dummy symbol for relocations that don't have symbols. We used to says such relocations were for the first defined symbol, but now we return end_symbols(). The llvm-readobj output change agrees with otool. llvm-svn: 180214

* Implements low-level object file format specific output for COFF andEric Christopher2013-04-031-0/+175
ELF with support for: - File headers - Section headers + data - Relocations - Symbols - Unwind data (only COFF/Win64) The output format follows a few rules: - Values are almost always output one per line (as elf-dump/coff-dump already do). - Many values are translated to something readable (like enum names), with the raw value in parentheses. - Hex numbers are output in uppercase, prefixed with "0x". - Flags are sorted alphabetically. - Lists and groups are always delimited. Example output: ---------- snip ---------- Sections [ Section { Index: 1 Name: .text (5) Type: SHT_PROGBITS (0x1) Flags [ (0x6) SHF_ALLOC (0x2) SHF_EXECINSTR (0x4) ] Address: 0x0 Offset: 0x40 Size: 33 Link: 0 Info: 0 AddressAlignment: 16 EntrySize: 0 Relocations [ 0x6 R_386_32 .rodata.str1.1 0x0 0xB R_386_PC32 puts 0x0 0x12 R_386_32 .rodata.str1.1 0x0 0x17 R_386_PC32 puts 0x0 ] SectionData ( 0000: 83EC04C7 04240000 0000E8FC FFFFFFC7 |.....$..........| 0010: 04240600 0000E8FC FFFFFF31 C083C404 |.$.........1....| 0020: C3 |.| ) } ] ---------- snip ---------- Relocations and symbols can be output standalone or together with the section header as displayed in the example. This feature set supports all tests in test/MC/COFF and test/MC/ELF (and I suspect all additional tests using elf-dump), making elf-dump and coff-dump deprecated.
