* DebugInfo: Add metadata support for disabling DWARF pub sectionsDavid Blaikie2018-08-161-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | In cases where the debugger load time is a worthwhile tradeoff (or less costly - such as loading from a DWP instead of a variety of DWOs (possibly over a high-latency/distributed filesystem)) against object file size, it can be reasonable to disable pubnames and corresponding gdb-index creation in the linker. A backend-flag version of this was implemented for NVPTX in D44385/r327994 - which was fine for NVPTX which wouldn't mix-and-match CUs. Now that it's going to be a user-facing option (likely powered by "-gno-pubnames", the same as GCC) it should be encoded in the DICompileUnit so it can vary per-CU. After this, likely the NVPTX support should be migrated to the metadata & the previous flag implementation should be removed. * [DebugInfo] Add DILabel metadata and intrinsic llvm.dbg.label.Shiva Chen2018-05-091-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | In order to set breakpoints on labels and list source code around labels, we need collect debug information for labels, i.e., label name, the function label belong, line number in the file, and the address label located. In order to keep these information in LLVM IR and to allow backend to generate debug information correctly. We create a new kind of metadata for labels, DILabel. The format of DILabel is !DILabel(scope: !1, name: "foo", file: !2, line: 3) We hope to keep debug information as much as possible even the code is optimized. So, we create a new kind of intrinsic for label metadata to avoid the metadata is eliminated with basic block. The intrinsic will keep existing if we keep it from optimized out. The format of the intrinsic is llvm.dbg.label(metadata !1) It has only one argument, that is the DILabel metadata. The intrinsic will follow the label immediately. Backend could get the label metadata through the intrinsic's parameter. We also create DIBuilder API for labels to be used by Frontend. Frontend could use createLabel() to allocate DILabel objects, and use insertLabel() to insert llvm.dbg.label intrinsic in LLVM IR. * llvm-dwarfdump: automatically dump both regular and .dwo variant of sectionsAdrian Prantl2017-09-131-8/+4
| | | | | | | | | | | | Since users typically don't really care about the .dwo / non.dwo distinction, this patch makes it so dwarfdump --debug-<info,...> dumps .debug_info and (if available) also .debug_info.dwo. This simplifies the command line interface (I've removed all dwo-specific dump options) and makes the tool friendlier to use. Differential Revision: https://reviews.llvm.org/D37771 llvm-svn: 313207
* Remove -generate-dwarf-pub-sections flag.Peter Collingbourne2017-09-121-10/+7
| | | | | | | | | This flag is unnecessary for testing because we can get the coverage we need by adjusting CU attributes. Differential Revision: https://reviews.llvm.org/D37725 llvm-svn: 313079
* IR: Represent -ggnu-pubnames with a flag on the DICompileUnit.Peter Collingbourne2017-09-121-2/+2
| | | | | | | | This allows the flag to be persisted through to LTO. Differential Revision: https://reviews.llvm.org/D37655 llvm-svn: 313078

* DebugInfo: Produce debug_{gnu_}pub{names,types} entries when explicitly ↵David Blaikie2017-05-251-0/+68
requested, even in -gmlt or when empty Turns out gold doesn't use the DW_AT_GNU_pubnames to decide whether to parse the rest of the DIEs when building gdb-index. This causes gold to trip over LLVM's output when there are DW_FORM_ref_addr present. Gold does use the presence of a debug_gnu_pub{names,types} entry for the CU to skip parsing the debug_info portion, so make sure that's included even when empty (technically, when empty there couldn't be any ref_addr anyway - it only came up when gmlt didn't produce any (even non-empty) pubnames - but given what that reveals about gold's implementation, this seems like a good thing to do for consistency). llvm-svn: 303894
