* Re-land "[test] Split LLDB tests into API, Shell & Unit"Jonas Devlieghere2019-10-0917-139/+0
| | | | | | | The original patch got reverted because it broke `check-lldb` on a clean build. This fixes that. llvm-svn: 374201

* [test] Split LLDB tests into API, Shell & UnitJonas Devlieghere2019-10-0917-139/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | LLDB has three major testing strategies: unit tests, tests that exercise the SB API though dotest.py and what we currently call lit tests. The later is rather confusing as we're now using lit as the driver for all three types of tests. As most of this grew organically, the directory structure in the LLDB repository doesn't really make this clear. The 'lit' tests are part of the root and among these tests there's a Unit and Suite folder for the unit and dotest-tests. This layout makes it impossible to run just the lit tests. This patch changes the directory layout to match the 3 testing strategies, each with their own directory and their own configuration file. This means there are now 3 directories under lit with 3 corresponding targets: - API (check-lldb-api): Test exercising the SB API. - Shell (check-lldb-shell): Test exercising command line utilities. - Unit (check-lldb-unit): Unit tests. Finally, there's still the `check-lldb` target that runs all three test suites. Finally, this also renames the lit folder to `test` to match the LLVM repository layout. * [test] Add a FIXME test for stop-command-source-on-errorJonas Devlieghere2019-09-063-0/+30
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | Modifying the interpreter settings is tricky because they don't take effect until we create a new command interpreter, which should be merely an implementation detail. This leads to confusing and unexpected scenarios. This adds a test cases with FIXMEs for some of the odd scenarios I encountered. I didn't XFAIL the test because I don't think there's a way to get an unexpected PASS if any of the commands succeeds and splitting up the file in multiple tests seems excessive. llvm-svn: 371259
* [test] Fix various module cache bugs and inconsistenciesJonas Devlieghere2019-08-291-0/+4
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Currently, lit tests don't set neither the module cache for building inferiors nor the module cache used by lldb when running tests. Furthermore, we have several places where we rely on the path to the module cache being always the same, rather than passing the correct value around. This makes it hard to specify a different module cache path when debugging a a test. This patch reworks how we determine and pass around the module cache paths and fixes the omission on the lit side. It also adds a sanity check to the lit and dotest suites. Differential revision: https://reviews.llvm.org/D66966 llvm-svn: 370394
* [FormatEntity] Ignore ASCII escape sequences when colors are disabled.Jonas Devlieghere2019-05-313-0/+26
| | | | | | | | | This patch makes the FormatEntity honor the debugger's color settings by not inserting ASCII escape sequences when colors are disabled. Differential revision: https://reviews.llvm.org/D62714 llvm-svn: 362240
* Refactor the lit configuration filesZachary Turner2018-11-021-1/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | A year or so ago, I re-wrote most of the lit infrastructure in LLVM so that it wasn't so boilerplate-y. I added lots of common helper type stuff, simplifed usage patterns, and made the code more elegant and maintainable. We migrated to this in LLVM, clang, and lld's lit files, but not in LLDBs. This started to bite me recently, as the 4 most recent times I tried to run the lit test suite in LLDB on a fresh checkout the first thing that would happen is that python would just start crashing with unhelpful backtraces and I would have to spend time investigating. You can reproduce this today by doing a fresh cmake generation, doing ninja lldb and then python bin/llvm-lit.py -sv ~/lldb/lit/SymbolFile at which point you'll get a segfault that tells you nothing about what your problem is. I started trying to fix the issues with bandaids, but it became clear that the proper solution was to just bring in the work I did in the rest of the projects. The side benefit of this is that the lit configuration files become much cleaner and more understandable as a result. Differential Revision: https://reviews.llvm.org/D54009 llvm-svn: 346008
* Fix and rename broken test for `settings write`.Jonas Devlieghere2018-10-261-10/+10
| | | | | | | | I committed this test without updating the old `settings export` to settings write. Since the functionality was renamed I also renamed the test case. llvm-svn: 345435
* Add functionality to export settingsJonas Devlieghere2018-10-261-0/+32
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | For the reproducer feature I need to be able to export and import the current LLDB configuration. To realize this I've extended the existing functionality to print settings. With the help of a new formatting option, we can now write the settings and their values to a file structured as regular commands. Concretely the functionality works as follows: (lldb) settings export -f /path/to/file This file contains a bunch of settings set commands, followed by the setting's name and value. ... settings set use-external-editor false settings set use-color true settings set auto-one-line-summaries true settings set auto-indent true ... You can import the settings again by either sourcing the file or using the settings read command. (lldb) settings read -f /path/to/file Differential revision: https://reviews.llvm.org/D52651 llvm-svn: 345346
* [Settings] Add -force flag to "settings set"Jonas Devlieghere2018-10-241-0/+15
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The -force option allows you to pass an empty value to settings set to reset the value to its default. This means that the following operations are equivalent: settings set -f <setting> settings clear <setting> The motivation for this change is the ability to export and import settings from LLDB. Because of the way the dumpers work, we don't know whether a value is going to be the default or not. Hence we cannot use settings clear and use settings set -f, potentially providing an empty value. * Add EchoCommentCommands to CommandInterpreterRunOptions in addition to the ↵Stefan Granitz2018-10-056-0/+23
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | existing EchoCommands and expose both as interpreter settings. Summary: Add settings to control command echoing: ``` (lldb) settings set interpreter.echo-commands true (lldb) settings set interpreter.echo-comment-commands true ``` Both settings default to true, which keeps LLDB's existing behavior in non-interactive mode (echo all command inputs to the output). So far the only way to change this behavior was the `--source-quietly` flag, which disables all output including evaluation results. Now `echo-commands` allows to turn off echoing for commands, while evaluation results are still printed. No effect if `--source-quietly` was present. `echo-comment-commands` allows to turn off echoing for commands in case they are pure comment lines. No effect if `echo-commands` is false. Note that the behavior does not change immediately! The new settings take effect only with the next command source. LLDB lit test are the main motivation for this feature. So far incoming `#CHECK` line have always been echoed to the output and so they could never fail. Now we can disable it in lit-lldb-init. Todos: Finish test for this feature. Add to lit-lldb-init. Check for failing lit tests. Reviewers: aprantl, jasonmolenda, JDevlieghere Subscribers: friss, lldb-commits Differential Revision: https://reviews.llvm.org/D52788 llvm-svn: 343859
* [Interpreter] Escape backticks when dumping format entities.Jonas Devlieghere2018-10-011-0/+2
| | | | | | | | | Currently we reject our own default disassembly-format string because it contains two backticks which causes everything in between to be interpreter as an expression by the command interpreter. This patch fixes that by escaping backticks when dumping format strings. llvm-svn: 343471
* Disable use-color if the output stream is not a terminal with color support.Raphael Isemann2018-08-272-0/+8
Summary: LLDB currently only checks the output terminal for color support by looking at the `TERM` environment variable and comparing it to `"dumb"`. This causes that when running LLDB on a CI node, the syntax highlighter will not be deactivated by LLDB and the output log is filled with color codes (unless the terminal emulator actually exposes itself as dumb). This patch now relies on the LLVM code for detecting color support which is more reliable. We now also correctly actually initialize the `m_supports_colors` variable in `File`. `m_supports_colors` was so far uninitialized, but the code path that uses `m_supports_colors` was also dead so the sanitizers didn't sound an alarm. The old check that compares `TERM` is not removed by this patch as the new LLVM code doesn't seem to handle this case (and it's a good thing to check for "dumb" terminals).
