Work functions can use set_worker_desc() to improve the visibility of
what the worker task is doing. Currently, the desc field is unset at
the beginning of each execution and there is a separate field to track
the field is set during the current execution.
Instead of leaving empty till desc is set, worker->desc can be used to
remember the last workqueue the worker worked on by default and users
that use set_worker_desc() can override it to something more
informative as necessary.
This simplifies desc handling and helps tracking the last workqueue
that the worker exected on to improve visibility.

For historical reasons, the worker attach/detach functions don't
currently manage worker->pool and the callers are manually and
inconsistently updating it.
This patch moves worker->pool updates into the worker attach/detach
functions. This makes worker->pool consistent and clearly defines how
worker->pool updates are synchronized.
This will help later workqueue visibility improvements by allowing
safe access to workqueue information from worker->task.

To improve workqueue visibility, we want to be able to access
workqueue information from worker tasks. The per-pool attach mutex
makes that difficult because there's no way of stabilizing task ->
worker pool association without knowing the pool first.
Worker attach/detach is a slow path and there's no need for different
pools to be able to perform them concurrently. This patch replaces
the per-pool attach_mutex with global wq_pool_attach_mutex to prepare
for visibility improvement changes.

Pull cgroup updates from Tejun Heo:
- For cpustat, cgroup has a percpu hierarchical stat mechanism which
propagates up the hierarchy lazily.
This contains commits to factor out and generalize the mechanism so
that it can be used for other cgroup stats too.
The original intention was to update memcg stats to use it but memcg
went for a different approach, so still the only user is cpustat. The
factoring out and generalization still make sense and it's likely
that this can be used for other purposes in the future.
- cgroup uses kernfs_notify() (which uses fsnotify()) to inform user
space of certain events. A rate limiting mechanism is added.
- Other misc changes.

but this lock took another, SOFTIRQ-unsafe lock in the past:

cgroup_rstat_updated() ensures that the cgroup's rstat is linked to
the parent. If there's no parent, it never gets linked and the
function ends up grabbing and releasing the cgroup_rstat_lock each
time for no reason which can be expensive.
This hasn't been a problem till now because nobody was calling the
function for the root cgroup but rstat is gonna be exposed to
controllers and use cases, so let's get ready. Make
cgroup_rstat_updated() an no-op for the root cgroup.

cgroup_rstat_updated() has a small race window where an updated
signaling can race with flush and could be lost till the next update.
This wasn't a problem for the existing usages, but we plan to use
rstat to track counters which need to be accurate.
This patch plugs the race window by synchronizing
cgroup_rstat_updated() and flush path with memory barriers around
cgroup_rstat_cpu->updated_next pointer.

This patch adds cgroup_subsys->css_rstat_flush(). If a subsystem has
this callback, its csses are linked on cgrp->css_rstat_list and rstat
will call the function whenever the associated cgroup is flushed.
Flush is also performed when such csses are released so that residual
counts aren't lost.
Combined with the rstat API previous patches factored out, this allows
controllers to plug into rstat to manage their statistics in a
scalable way.

Currently, rstat flush path is protected with a mutex which is fine as
all the existing users are from interface file show path. However,
rstat is being generalized for use by controllers and flushing from
atomic contexts will be necessary.
This patch replaces cgroup_rstat_mutex with a spinlock and adds a
irq-safe flush function - cgroup_rstat_flush_irqsafe(). Explicit
yield handling is added to the flush path so that other flush
functions can yield to other threads and flushers.

This patch factors out and exposes the following interface functions.
* cgroup_rstat_updated(): Renamed from cgroup_rstat_cpu_updated() for
consistency.
* cgroup_rstat_flush_hold/release(): Factored out from base stat
implementation.
* cgroup_rstat_flush(): Verbatim expose.
While at it, drop assert on cgroup_rstat_mutex in
cgroup_base_stat_flush() as it crosses layers and make a minor comment
update.

Base resource stat accounts universial (not specific to any
controller) resource consumptions on top of rstat. Currently, its
implementation is intermixed with rstat implementation making the code
confusing to follow.
This patch clarifies the distintion by doing the followings.
* Encapsulate base resource stat counters, currently only cputime, in
struct cgroup_base_stat.
* Move prev_cputime into struct cgroup and initialize it with cgroup.
* Rename the related functions so that they start with cgroup_base_stat.
* Prefix the related variables and field names with b.
This patch doesn't make any functional changes.

notification is requested before 10ms has passed since the previous
notification, the new notification is delayed till then.
As this only delays from the second notification on in a given close
cluster of notifications, userland reactions to notifications
shouldn't be delayed at all in most cases while avoiding notification
storms.

The "cgroup." core interface files bypass the usual interface removal
path and get removed recursively along with the cgroup itself. While
this works now, the subtle discrepancy gets in the way of implementing
common mechanisms.
This patch updates cgroup core interface file handling so that it's
consistent with controller interface files. When added, the css is
marked CSS_VISIBLE and they're explicitly removed before the cgroup is
destroyed.
This doesn't cause user-visible behavior changes.

syzbot is reporting NULL pointer dereference at snapshot_write() [1].
This is because data->handle is zero-cleared by ioctl(SNAPSHOT_FREE).
Fix this by checking data_of(data->handle) != NULL before using it.

The `s2idle_lock' is acquired during suspend while interrupts are
disabled even on RT. The lock is acquired for short sections only.
Make it a RAW lock which avoids "sleeping while atomic" warnings on RT.

s2idle_wait_head is used during s2idle with interrupts disabled even on
RT. There is no "custom" wake up function so swait could be used instead
which is also lower weight compared to the wait_queue.
Make s2idle_wait_head a swait_queue_head.

timekeeping suspend/resume calls read_persistent_clock() which takes
rtc_lock. That results in might sleep warnings because at that point
we run with interrupts disabled.
We cannot convert rtc_lock to a raw spinlock as that would trigger
other might sleep warnings.
As a workaround we disable the might sleep warnings by setting
system_state to SYSTEM_SUSPEND before calling sysdev_suspend() and
restoring it to SYSTEM_RUNNING afer sysdev_resume(). There is no lock
contention because hibernate / suspend to RAM is single-CPU at this
point.
In s2idle's case the system_state is set to SYSTEM_SUSPEND before
timekeeping_suspend() which is invoked by the last CPU. In the resume
case it set back to SYSTEM_RUNNING after timekeeping_resume() which is
invoked by the first CPU in the resume case. The other CPUs will block
on tick_freeze_lock.

Commit 152db033d775 (schedutil: Allow cpufreq requests to be made
even when kthread kicked) made changes to prevent utilization updates
from being discarded during processing a previous request, but it
left a small window in which that still can happen in the one-CPU
policy case. Namely, updates coming in after setting work_in_progress
in sugov_update_commit() and clearing it in sugov_work() will still
be dropped due to the work_in_progress check in sugov_update_single().
To close that window, rearrange the code so as to acquire the update
lock around the deferred update branch in sugov_update_single()
and drop the work_in_progress check from it.

Currently there is a chance of a schedutil cpufreq update request to be
dropped if there is a pending update request. This pending request can
be delayed if there is a scheduling delay of the irq_work and the wake
up of the schedutil governor kthread.
A very bad scenario is when a schedutil request was already just made,
such as to reduce the CPU frequency, then a newer request to increase
CPU frequency (even sched deadline urgent frequency increase requests)
can be dropped, even though the rate limits suggest that its Ok to
process a request. This is because of the way the work_in_progress flag
is used.
This patch improves the situation by allowing new requests to happen
even though the old one is still being processed. Note that in this
approach, if an irq_work was already issued, we just update next_freq
and don't bother to queue another request so there's no extra work being
done to make this happen.

This routine checks if the CPU running this code belongs to the policy
of the target CPU or if not, can it do remote DVFS for it remotely. But
the current name of it implies as if it is only about doing remote
updates.
Rename it to make it more relevant.

The iowait boosting code has been recently updated to add a progressive
boosting behavior which allows to be less aggressive in boosting tasks
doing only sporadic IO operations, thus being more energy efficient for
example on mobile platforms.
The current code is now however a bit convoluted. Some functionalities
(e.g. iowait boost reset) are replicated in different paths and their
documentation is slightly misaligned.
Let's cleanup the code by consolidating all the IO wait boosting related
functionality within within few dedicated functions and better define
their role:
- sugov_iowait_boost: set/increase the IO wait boost of a CPU
- sugov_iowait_apply: apply/reduce the IO wait boost of a CPU
Both these two function are used at every sugov update and they make
use of a unified IO wait boost reset policy provided by:
- sugov_iowait_reset: reset/disable the IO wait boost of a CPU
if a CPU is not updated for more then one tick
This makes possible a cleaner and more self-contained design for the IO
wait boosting code since the rest of the sugov update routines, both for
single and shared frequency domains, follow the same template:

A more energy efficient update of the IO wait boosting mechanism has
been introduced in:
commit a5a0809bc58e ("cpufreq: schedutil: Make iowait boost more energy efficient")
where the boost value is expected to be:
- doubled at each successive wakeup from IO
staring from the minimum frequency supported by a CPU
- reset when a CPU is not updated for more then one tick
by either disabling the IO wait boost or resetting its value to the
minimum frequency if this new update requires an IO boost.
This approach is supposed to "ignore" boosting for sporadic wakeups from
IO, while still getting the frequency boosted to the maximum to benefit
long sequence of wakeup from IO operations.
However, these assumptions are not always satisfied.
For example, when an IO boosted CPU enters idle for more the one tick
and then wakes up after an IO wait, since in sugov_set_iowait_boost() we
first check the IOWAIT flag, we keep doubling the iowait boost instead
of restarting from the minimum frequency value.
This misbehavior could happen mainly on non-shared frequency domains,
thus defeating the energy efficiency optimization, but it can also
happen on shared frequency domain systems.
Let fix this issue in sugov_set_iowait_boost() by:
- first check the IO wait boost reset conditions
to eventually reset the boost value
- then applying the correct IO boost value
if required by the caller

The schedutil driver sets sg_policy->next_freq to UINT_MAX on certain
occasions to discard the cached value of next freq:
- In sugov_start(), when the schedutil governor is started for a group
of CPUs.
- And whenever we need to force a freq update before rate-limit
duration, which happens when:
- there is an update in cpufreq policy limits.
- Or when the utilization of DL scheduling class increases.
In return, get_next_freq() doesn't return a cached next_freq value but
recalculates the next frequency instead.
But having special meaning for a particular value of frequency makes the
code less readable and error prone. We recently fixed a bug where the
UINT_MAX value was considered as valid frequency in
sugov_update_single().
All we need is a flag which can be used to discard the value of
sg_policy->next_freq and we already have need_freq_update for that. Lets
reuse it instead of setting next_freq to UINT_MAX.

Lifting the restriction that the sugov kthread is bound to the
policy->related_cpus for a system with a slow switching cpufreq driver,
which is able to perform DVFS from any cpu (e.g. cpufreq-dt), is not
only not beneficial it also harms Enery-Aware Scheduling (EAS) on
systems with asymmetric cpu capacities (e.g. Arm big.LITTLE).
The sugov kthread which does the update for the little cpus could
potentially run on a big cpu. It could prevent that the big cluster goes
into deeper idle states although all the tasks are running on the little
cluster.

When wakelock support was added, the wakeup_source_add() function
was updated to set the last_time value of the wakeup source. This
has the unintended side effect of producing confusing output from
pm_print_active_wakeup_sources() when a wakeup source is added
prior to a sleep that is blocked by a different wakeup source.
The function pm_print_active_wakeup_sources() will search for the
most recently active wakeup source when no active source is found.
If a wakeup source is added after a different wakeup source blocks
the system from going to sleep it may have a later last_time value
than the blocking source and be output as the last active wakeup
source even if it has never actually been active.
It looks to me like the change to wakeup_source_add() was made to
prevent the wakelock garbage collection from accidentally dropping
a wakelock during the narrow window between adding the wakelock to
the wakelock list in wakelock_lookup_add() and the activation of
the wakeup source in pm_wake_lock().
This commit changes the behavior so that only the last_time of the
wakeup source used by a wakelock is initialized prior to adding it
to the wakeup source list. This preserves the meaning of the
last_time value as the last time the wakeup source was active and
allows a wakeup source that has never been active to have a
last_time value of 0.

I have run into a couple of drivers using current_kernel_time()
suffering from the y2038 problem, and they could be converted
to using ktime_t, but don't have interfaces that skip the nanosecond
calculation at the moment.
This introduces ktime_get_coarse_with_offset() as a simpler
variant of ktime_get_with_offset(), and adds wrappers for the
three time domains we support with the existing function.

The current_kernel_time64, get_monotonic_coarse64, getrawmonotonic64,
get_monotonic_boottime64 and timekeeping_clocktai64 interfaces have
rather inconsistent naming, and they differ in the calling conventions
by passing the output either by reference or as a return value.
Rename them to ktime_get_coarse_real_ts64, ktime_get_coarse_ts64,
ktime_get_raw_ts64, ktime_get_boottime_ts64 and ktime_get_clocktai_ts64
respectively, and provide the interfaces with macros or inline
functions as needed.

In a move to make ktime_get_*() the preferred driver interface into the
timekeeping code, sanitizes ktime_get_real_ts64() to be a proper exported
symbol rather than an alias for getnstimeofday64().
The internal __getnstimeofday64() is no longer used, so remove that
and merge it into ktime_get_real_ts64().

At this point, we have converted most of the kernel to use timespec64
consistently in place of timespec, so it seems it's time to make
timespec64 the native structure and define timespec in terms of that
one on 64-bit architectures.
Starting with gcc-5, the compiler can completely optimize away the
timespec_to_timespec64 and timespec64_to_timespec functions on 64-bit
architectures. With older compilers, we introduce a couple of extra
copies of local variables, but those are easily avoided by using
the timespec64 based interfaces consistently, as we do in most of the
important code paths already.
The main upside of removing the hack is that printing the tv_sec
field of a timespec64 structure can now use the %lld format
string on all architectures without a cast to time64_t. Without
this patch, the field is a 'long' type and would have to be printed
using %ld on 64-bit architectures.

Checking the equality of cpumask for both new and old tick device doesn't
ensure that it's CPU local device. This will cause issue if a low rating
clockevent tick device is registered first followed by the registration
of higher rating clockevent tick device.
In such case, clockevents_released list will never get emptied as both
the devices get selected as preferred one and we will loop forever in
clockevents_notify_released.

The clocksource watchdog uses a work to spawn a kthread to run the
watchdog. That is about as silly as it sounds, run the watchdog
directly from the work.

Change over clock_nanosleep syscalls to use y2038 safe
__kernel_timespec times. This will enable changing over
of these syscalls to use new y2038 safe syscalls when
the architectures define the CONFIG_64BIT_TIME.
Note that nanosleep syscall is deprecated and does not have a
plan for making it y2038 safe. But, the syscall should work as
before on 64 bit machines and on 32 bit machines, the syscall
works correctly until y2038 as before using the existing compat
syscall version. There is no new syscall for supporting 64 bit
time_t on 32 bit architectures.
