* arch: Make board selection choices optionalJoe Hershberger2015-05-121-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | By making the board selections optional, every defconfig will include the board selection when running savedefconfig so if a new board is added to the top of the list of choices the former top's defconfig will still be correct. * dm: select CONFIG_DM* optionsMasahiro Yamada2015-04-181-6/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | As mentioned in the previous commit, adding default values in each Kconfig causes problems because it does not co-exist with the "depends on" syntax. (Please note this is not a bug of Kconfig.) We should not do so unless we have a special reason. Actually, for CONFIG_DM*, we have no good reason to do so. Generally, CONFIG_DM is not a user-configurable option. Once we convert a driver into Driver Model, the board only works with Driver Model, i.e. CONFIG_DM must be always enabled for that board. So, using "select DM" is more suitable rather than allowing users to modify it. Another good thing is, Kconfig warns unmet dependencies for "select" syntax, so we easily notice bugs. Actually, CONFIG_DM and other related options have been added without consistency: some into arch/*/Kconfig, some into board/*/Kconfig, and some into configs/*_defconfig. This commit prefers "select" and cleans up the following issues. [1] Never use "CONFIG_DM=n" in defconfig files It is really rare to add "CONFIG_FOO=n" to disable CONFIG options. It is more common to use "# CONFIG_FOO is not set". But here, we do not even have to do it. Less than half of OMAP3 boards have been converted to Driver Model. Adding the default values to arch/arm/cpu/armv7/omap3/Kconfig is weird. Instead, add "select DM" only to appropriate boards, which eventually eliminates "CONFIG_DM=n", etc. [2] Delete redundant CONFIGs Sandbox sets CONFIG_DM in arch/sandbox/Kconfig and defines it again in configs/sandbox_defconfig. Likewise, OMAP3 sets CONFIG_DM arch/arm/cpu/armv7/omap3/Kconfig and defines it also in omap3_beagle_defconfig and devkit8000_defconfig. Signed-off-by: Masahiro Yamada <yamada.masahiro@socionext.com>

* malloc_f: enable SYS_MALLOC_F by default if DM is onMasahiro Yamada2015-03-281-4/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | This option has a bool type, not hex. Fix it and enable it if CONFIG_DM is on because Driver Model always requires malloc memory. Devices are scanned twice, before/after relocation. CONFIG_SYS_MALLOC_F should be enabled to use malloc memory before relocation. As it is board-independent, handle it globally. * fdt: Allow ft_board_setup() to report failureSimon Glass2014-11-212-11/+14
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This function can fail if the device tree runs out of space. Rather than silently booting with an incomplete device tree, allow the failure to be detected. Unfortunately this involves changing a lot of places in the code. I have not changed behvaiour to return an error where one is not currently returned, to avoid unexpected breakage. Eventually it would be nice to allow boards to register functions to be called to update the device tree. This would avoid all the many functions to do this. However it's not clear yet if this should be done using driver model or with a linker list. This work is left for later. * MAINTAINERS: comment out blank M: fieldMasahiro Yamada2014-09-242-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Since commit ddaf5c8f3030050fcd356a1e49e3ee8f8f52c6d4 (patman: RunPipe() should not pipe stdout/stderr unless asked), Patman spits lots of "Invalid MAINTAINERS address: '-'" error messages for patches with global changes. It takes too long for Patman to process them. Anyway, "M: -" does not carry any important information. Rather, it is just like a place holder in case of assigning a new board maintainer. Let's comment out. This commit can be reproduced by the following command: find . -name MAINTAINERS | xargs sed -i -e '/^M:[[:blank:]]*-$/s/^/#/' Signed-off-by: Masahiro Yamada <yamada.m@jp.panasonic.com>
* MAINTAINERS: comment out invalid maintainersMasahiro Yamada2014-09-241-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The "S: Orphan" in MAINTAINERS means that the maintainer in the "M:" field is unreachable (i.e. the email address is not working). (Refer to the definition of "Orphan" adopted in U-Boot in the log of commit 31f1b654b2f395b69faa5d0d3c1eb0803923bd3b, "boards.cfg: move boards with invalid emails to Orphan") For patch files adding global changes, scripts/get_maintainer.pl adds bunch of such invalid email addresses, which results in tons of annoying bounce emails. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | We have switched to Kconfig and the boards.cfg file is going to be removed. We have to retrieve the board status and maintainers information from it. The MAINTAINERS format as in Linux Kernel would be nice because we can crib the scripts/get_maintainer.pl script. After some discussion, we chose to put a MAINTAINERS file under each board directory, not the top-level one because we want to collect relevant information for a board into a single place. * kconfig: add board Kconfig and defconfig filesMasahiro Yamada2014-07-3018-0/+270
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This commit adds: - arch/${ARCH}/Kconfig provide a menu to select target boards - board/${VENDOR}/${BOARD}/Kconfig or board/${BOARD}/Kconfig set CONFIG macros to the appropriate values for each board - configs/${TARGET_BOARD}_defconfig default setting of each board (This commit was automatically generated by a conversion script based on boards.cfg) In Linux Kernel, defconfig files are located under arch/${ARCH}/configs/ directory. It works in Linux Kernel since ARCH is always given from the command line for cross compile. But in U-Boot, ARCH is not given from the command line. Which means we cannot know ARCH until the board configuration is done. That is why all the "*_defconfig" files should be gathered into a single directory ./configs/. * Handle most LDSCRIPT setting centrallyScott Wood2011-04-305-35/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Currently, some linker scripts are found by common code in config.mk. Some are found using CONFIG_SYS_LDSCRIPT, but the code for that is sometimes in arch config.mk and sometimes in board config.mk. Some are found using an arch-specific rule for looking in CPUDIR, etc. Further, the powerpc config.mk rule relied on CONFIG_NAND_SPL when it really wanted CONFIG_NAND_U_BOOT -- which covered up the fact that not all NAND_U_BOOT builds actually wanted CPUDIR/u-boot-nand.lds. Replace all of this -- except for a handful of boards that are actually selecting a linker script in a unique way -- with centralized ldscript finding. If board code specifies LDSCRIPT, that will be used. Otherwise, if CONFIG_SYS_LDSCRIPT is specified, that will be used. If neither of these are specified, then the central config.mk will check for the existence of the following, in order: $(TOPDIR)/board/$(BOARDDIR)/u-boot-nand.lds (only if CONFIG_NAND_U_BOOT) $(TOPDIR)/$(CPUDIR)/u-boot-nand.lds (only if CONFIG_NAND_U_BOOT) $(TOPDIR)/board/$(BOARDDIR)/u-boot.lds $(TOPDIR)/$(CPUDIR)/u-boot.lds Some boards (sc3, cm5200, munices) provided their own u-boot.lds that were dead code, because they were overridden by a CPUDIR u-boot.lds under the old powerpc rules. * Switch from archive libraries to partial linkingSebastien Carlier2010-11-1718-36/+36
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Before this commit, weak symbols were not overridden by non-weak symbols found in archive libraries when linking with recent versions of binutils. As stated in the System V ABI, "the link editor does not extract archive members to resolve undefined weak symbols". This commit changes all Makefiles to use partial linking (ld -r) instead of creating library archives, which forces all symbols to participate in linking, allowing non-weak symbols to override weak symbols as intended. This approach is also used by Linux, from which the gmake function cmd_link_o_target (defined in config.mk and used in all Makefiles) is inspired. The name of each former library archive is preserved except for extensions which change from ".a" to ".o". This commit updates references accordingly where needed, in particular in some linker scripts. This commit reveals board configurations that exclude some features but include source files that depend these disabled features in the build, resulting in undefined symbols. Known such cases include: - disabling CMD_NET but not CMD_NFS; - enabling CONFIG_OF_LIBFDT but not CONFIG_QE. Signed-off-by: Sebastien Carlier <sebastien.carlier@gmail.com>
* Replace CONFIG_SYS_GBL_DATA_SIZE by auto-generated valueWolfgang Denk2010-10-265-0/+5
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | CONFIG_SYS_GBL_DATA_SIZE has always been just a bad workarond for not being able to use "sizeof(struct global_data)" in assembler files. Recent experience has shown that manual synchronization is not reliable enough. This patch renames CONFIG_SYS_GBL_DATA_SIZE into GENERATED_GBL_DATA_SIZE which gets automatically generated by the asm-offsets tool. In the result, all definitions of this value can be deleted from the board config files. We have to make sure that all files that reference such data include the new <asm-offsets.h> file. No other changes have been done yet, but it is obvious that similar changes / simplifications can be done for other, related macro definitions as well. * ppc4xx: Enable NOR flash support in sequoia_ramboot targetStefan Roese2010-10-201-2/+4
| | | | | | | | Until now, the Sequoia RAM-booting image disabled NOR flash support as this image was mainly created for NAND-only boards. This patch now enables NOR flash support for this RAM-booting version as well. Signed-off-by: Stefan Roese <sr@denx.de>
