* m68k: M54418TWR: drop board/freescale/m54418twr/config.mkMasahiro Yamada2016-01-201-4/+4
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | The board/freescale/m54418twr/config.mk defined TEXT_BASE, which has the same value as CONFIG_SYS_TEXT_BASE. The TEXT_BASE is referenced by two files: - arch/m68k/cpu/mcf5445x/start.S and include/ - include/configs/M54418TWR.h Replace the references with CONFIG_SYS_TEXT_BASE and delete board/freescale/m54418twr/config.mk. * m68k: mcf5445x: move CPU type to Kconfig and refactor config.mkMasahiro Yamada2015-03-281-8/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | This commit intends to stop grepping CPU type in arch/m68k/cpu/mcf5445x/config.mk. Move the CPU type config options from include/configs/*.h to arch/m68k/Kconfig and refactor the CPU flags select in arch/m68k/cpu/mcf5445x/config.mk. * kconfig: switch to KconfigMasahiro Yamada2014-07-301-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This commit enables Kconfig. Going forward, we use Kconfig for the board configuration. mkconfig will never be used. Nor will include/config.mk be generated. Kconfig must be adjusted for U-Boot because our situation is a little more complicated than Linux Kernel. We have to generate multiple boot images (Normal, SPL, TPL) from one source tree. Each image needs its own configuration input. Usage: Run "make <board>_defconfig" to do the board configuration. It will create the .config file and additionally spl/.config, tpl/.config if SPL, TPL is enabled, respectively. You can use "make config", "make menuconfig" etc. to create a new .config or modify the existing one. Use "make spl/config", "make spl/menuconfig" etc. for spl/.config and do likewise for tpl/.config file. The generic syntax of configuration targets for SPL, TPL is: <target_image>/<config_command> Here, <target_image> is either 'spl' or 'tpl' <config_command> is 'config', 'menuconfig', 'xconfig', etc. When the configuration is done, run "make". (Or "make <board>_defconfig all" will do the configuration and build in one time.) For futher information of how Kconfig works in U-Boot, please read the comment block of scripts/multiconfig.py. By the way, there is another item worth remarking here: coexistence of Kconfig and board herder files. Prior to Kconfig, we used C headers to define a set of configs. We expect a very long term to migrate from C headers to Kconfig. Two different infractructure must coexist in the interim. In our former configuration scheme, include/autoconf.mk was generated for use in makefiles. It is still generated under include/, spl/include/, tpl/include/ directory for the Normal, SPL, TPL image, respectively. * kbuild: use Linux Kernel build scriptsMasahiro Yamada2014-02-191-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Now we are ready to switch over to real Kbuild. This commit disables temporary scripts: scripts/{Makefile.build.tmp, Makefile.host.tmp} and enables real Kbuild scripts: scripts/{Makefile.build,Makefile.host,Makefile.lib}. This switch is triggered by the line in scripts/Kbuild.include -build := -f $(if $(KBUILD_SRC),$(srctree)/)scripts/Makefile.build.tmp obj +build := -f $(if $(KBUILD_SRC),$(srctree)/)scripts/Makefile.build obj We need to adjust some build scripts for U-Boot. But smaller amount of modification is preferable. Additionally, we need to fix compiler flags which are locally added or removed. In Kbuild, it is not allowed to change CFLAGS locally. Instead, ccflags-y, asflags-y, cppflags-y, CFLAGS_$(basetarget).o, CFLAGS_REMOVE_$(basetarget).o are prepared for that purpose. * Switch from archive libraries to partial linkingSebastien Carlier2010-11-171-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Before this commit, weak symbols were not overridden by non-weak symbols found in archive libraries when linking with recent versions of binutils. As stated in the System V ABI, "the link editor does not extract archive members to resolve undefined weak symbols". This commit changes all Makefiles to use partial linking (ld -r) instead of creating library archives, which forces all symbols to participate in linking, allowing non-weak symbols to override weak symbols as intended. This approach is also used by Linux, from which the gmake function cmd_link_o_target (defined in config.mk and used in all Makefiles) is inspired. The name of each former library archive is preserved except for extensions which change from ".a" to ".o". This commit updates references accordingly where needed, in particular in some linker scripts. This commit reveals board configurations that exclude some features but include source files that depend these disabled features in the build, resulting in undefined symbols. Known such cases include: - disabling CMD_NET but not CMD_NFS; - enabling CONFIG_OF_LIBFDT but not CONFIG_QE. Signed-off-by: Sebastien Carlier <sebastien.carlier@gmail.com>
* Replace CONFIG_SYS_GBL_DATA_SIZE by auto-generated valueWolfgang Denk2010-10-261-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | CONFIG_SYS_GBL_DATA_SIZE has always been just a bad workarond for not being able to use "sizeof(struct global_data)" in assembler files. Recent experience has shown that manual synchronization is not reliable enough. This patch renames CONFIG_SYS_GBL_DATA_SIZE into GENERATED_GBL_DATA_SIZE which gets automatically generated by the asm-offsets tool. In the result, all definitions of this value can be deleted from the board config files. We have to make sure that all files that reference such data include the new <asm-offsets.h> file. No other changes have been done yet, but it is obvious that similar changes / simplifications can be done for other, related macro definitions as well. * Rename TEXT_BASE into CONFIG_SYS_TEXT_BASEWolfgang Denk2010-10-181-4/+4
| | | | | | | | | | | | The change is currently needed to be able to remove the board configuration scripting from the top level Makefile and replace it by a simple, table driven script. Moving this configuration setting into the "CONFIG_*" name space is also desirable because it is needed if we ever should move forward to a Kconfig driven configuration system. * Make sure that argv[] argument pointers are not modified.Wolfgang Denk2010-07-041-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The hush shell dynamically allocates (and re-allocates) memory for the argument strings in the "char *argv[]" argument vector passed to commands. Any code that modifies these pointers will cause serious corruption of the malloc data structures and crash U-Boot, so make sure the compiler can check that no such modifications are being done by changing the code into "char * const argv[]". This modification is the result of debugging a strange crash caused after adding a new command, which used the following argument processing code which has been working perfectly fine in all Unix systems since version 6 - but not so in U-Boot: int main (int argc, char **argv) { while (--argc > 0 && **++argv == '-') { /* ====> */ while (*++*argv) { switch (**argv) { case 'd': debug++; break; ... default: usage (); } } } ... } The line marked "====>" will corrupt the malloc data structures and usually cause U-Boot to crash when the next command gets executed by the shell. With the modification, the compiler will prevent this with an error: increment of read-only location '*argv' N.B.: The code above can be trivially rewritten like this: while (--argc > 0 && **++argv == '-') { char *arg = *argv; while (*++arg) { switch (*arg) { ...
