| * | block: replace bi_bdev with a gendisk pointer and partitions indexChristoph Hellwig2017-08-232-4/+4
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This way we don't need a block_device structure to submit I/O. The block_device has different life time rules from the gendisk and request_queue and is usually only available when the block device node is open. Other callers need to explicitly create one (e.g. the lightnvm passthrough code, or the new nvme multipathing code). For the actual I/O path all that we need is the gendisk, which exists once per block device. But given that the block layer also does partition remapping we additionally need a partition index, which is used for said remapping in generic_make_request. Note that all the block drivers generally want request_queue or sometimes the gendisk, so this removes a layer of indirection all over the stack. | * | | fs: convert a pile of fsync routines to errseq_t based reportingJeff Layton2017-08-011-1/+1
| | |/ | |/| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch converts most of the in-kernel filesystems that do writeback out of the pagecache to report errors using the errseq_t-based infrastructure that was recently added. This allows them to report errors once for each open file description. Most filesystems have a fairly straightforward fsync operation. They call filemap_write_and_wait_range to write back all of the data and wait on it, and then (sometimes) sync out the metadata. For those filesystems this is a straightforward conversion from calling filemap_write_and_wait_range in their fsync operation to calling file_write_and_wait_range. | |/ |/| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | jfs had previously avoided the use of MAX_LFS_FILESIZE because it hadn't accounted for the whole 32-bit index range on 32-bit systems. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | When changing a file's acl mask, __jfs_set_acl() will first set the group bits of i_mode to the value of the mask, and only then set the actual extended attribute representing the new acl. If the second part fails (due to lack of space, for example) and the file had no acl attribute to begin with, the system will from now on assume that the mask permission bits are actual group permission bits, potentially granting access to the wrong users. Prevent this by only changing the inode mode after the acl has been set. Signed-off-by: Ernesto A. Fernández <ernesto.mnd.fernandez@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Dave Kleikamp <dave.kleikamp@oracle.com>
| * jfs: Don't clear SGID when inheriting ACLsJan Kara2017-07-181-7/+8
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | When new directory 'DIR1' is created in a directory 'DIR0' with SGID bit set, DIR1 is expected to have SGID bit set (and owning group equal to the owning group of 'DIR0'). However when 'DIR0' also has some default ACLs that 'DIR1' inherits, setting these ACLs will result in SGID bit on 'DIR1' to get cleared if user is not member of the owning group. Fix the problem by moving posix_acl_update_mode() out of __jfs_set_acl() into jfs_set_acl(). That way the function will not be called when inheriting ACLs which is what we want as it prevents SGID bit clearing and the mode has been properly set by posix_acl_create() anyway. | * | fs: Replace current_fs_time() with current_time()Deepa Dinamani2016-09-271-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | current_fs_time() uses struct super_block* as an argument. As per Linus's suggestion, this is changed to take struct inode* as a parameter instead. This is because the function is primarily meant for vfs inode timestamps. Also the function was renamed as per Arnd's suggestion. Change all calls to current_fs_time() to use the new current_time() function instead. current_fs_time() will be deleted. | * | fs: Replace CURRENT_TIME with current_time() for inode timestampsDeepa Dinamani2016-09-276-16/+16
| |/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | CURRENT_TIME macro is not appropriate for filesystems as it doesn't use the right granularity for filesystem timestamps. Use current_time() instead. CURRENT_TIME is also not y2038 safe. This is also in preparation for the patch that transitions vfs timestamps to use 64 bit time and hence make them y2038 safe. As part of the effort current_time() will be extended to do range checks. Hence, it is necessary for all file system timestamps to use current_time(). Also, current_time() will be transitioned along with vfs to be y2038 safe. Note that whenever a single call to current_time() is used to change timestamps in different inodes, it is because they share the same time granularity. | |/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | When file permissions are modified via chmod(2) and the user is not in the owning group or capable of CAP_FSETID, the setgid bit is cleared in inode_change_ok(). |\ \ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This changes the vfs dentry hashing to mix in the parent pointer at the _beginning_ of the hash, rather than at the end. That actually improves both the hash and the code generation, because we can move more of the computation to the "static" part of the dcache setup, and do less at lookup runtime. It turns out that a lot of other hash users also really wanted to mix in a base pointer as a 'salt' for the hash, and so the slightly extended interface ends up working well for other cases too. Users that want a string hash that is purely about the string pass in a 'salt' pointer of NULL. * merge branch 'salted-string-hash': fs/dcache.c: Save one 32-bit multiply in dcache lookup vfs: make the string hashes salt the hash
| * | vfs: make the string hashes salt the hashLinus Torvalds2016-06-101-1/+1
| |/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | We always mixed in the parent pointer into the dentry name hash, but we did it late at lookup time. It turns out that we can simplify that lookup-time action by salting the hash with the parent pointer early instead of late. A few other users of our string hashes also wanted to mix in their own pointers into the hash, and those are updated to use the same mechanism. Hash users that don't have any particular initial salt can just use the NULL pointer as a no-salt.
