* bad_inode: add missing i_op initializersMiklos Szeredi2016-12-091-4/+51
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | New inode operations were forgotten to be added to bad_inode. Most of the time the op is checked for NULL before being called but marking the inode bad and the check can race (very unlikely). However in case of ->get_link() only DCACHE_SYMLINK_TYPE is checked before calling the op, so there's no race and will definitely oops when trying to follow links on such a beast. Also remove comments about extinct ops. Signed-off-by: Miklos Szeredi <mszeredi@redhat.com> Cc: <stable@vger.kernel.org>

| * | fs: Replace current_fs_time() with current_time()Deepa Dinamani2016-09-271-1/+1
| |/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | current_fs_time() uses struct super_block* as an argument. As per Linus's suggestion, this is changed to take struct inode* as a parameter instead. This is because the function is primarily meant for vfs inode timestamps. Also the function was renamed as per Arnd's suggestion. Change all calls to current_fs_time() to use the new current_time() function instead. current_fs_time() will be deleted. * | vfs: Use IOP_XATTR flag for bad-inode handlingAndreas Gruenbacher2016-10-071-20/+1
|/ | | | | | | | | With this change, all the xattr handler based operations will produce an -EIO result for bad inodes, and we no longer only depend on inode->i_op to be set to bad_inode_ops. Signed-off-by: Andreas Gruenbacher <agruenba@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Al Viro <viro@zeniv.linux.org.uk>
* switch ->setxattr() to passing dentry and inode separatelyAl Viro2016-05-271-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | smack ->d_instantiate() uses ->setxattr(), so to be able to call it before we'd hashed the new dentry and attached it to inode, we need ->setxattr() instances getting the inode as an explicit argument rather than obtaining it from dentry. Similar change for ->getxattr() had been done in commit ce23e64. Unlike ->getxattr() (which is used by both selinux and smack instances of ->d_instantiate()) ->setxattr() is used only by smack one and unfortunately it got missed back then. | | | | | | | | | Just the flags; only NFS cares even about that, but there are legitimate uses for such argument. * mm/fs: remove truncate_rangeHugh Dickins2012-05-291-1/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Remove vmtruncate_range(), and remove the truncate_range method from struct inode_operations: only tmpfs ever supported it, and tmpfs has now converted over to using the fallocate method of file_operations. Update Documentation accordingly, adding (setlease and) fallocate lines. And while we're in mm.h, remove duplicate declarations of shmem_lock() and shmem_file_setup(): everyone is now using the ones in shmem_fs.h. * fs: push i_mutex and filemap_write_and_wait down into ->fsync() handlersJosef Bacik2011-07-201-1/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Btrfs needs to be able to control how filemap_write_and_wait_range() is called in fsync to make it less of a painful operation, so push down taking i_mutex and the calling of filemap_write_and_wait() down into the ->fsync() handlers. Some file systems can drop taking the i_mutex altogether it seems, like ext3 and ocfs2. For correctness sake I just pushed everything down in all cases to make sure that we keep the current behavior the same for everybody, and then each individual fs maintainer can make up their mind about what to do from there. * [PATCH] mark struct inode_operations const 1Arjan van de Ven2007-02-121-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | Many struct inode_operations in the kernel can be "const". Marking them const moves these to the .rodata section, which avoids false sharing with potential dirty data. In addition it'll catch accidental writes at compile time to these shared resources. * [PATCH] fix memory corruption from misinterpreted bad_inode_ops return valuesEric Sandeen2007-01-051-41/+289
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | CVE-2006-5753 is for a case where an inode can be marked bad, switching the ops to bad_inode_ops, which are all connected as: static int return_EIO(void) { return -EIO; } #define EIO_ERROR ((void *) (return_EIO)) static struct inode_operations bad_inode_ops = { .create = bad_inode_create ...etc... The problem here is that the void cast causes return types to not be promoted, and for ops such as listxattr which expect more than 32 bits of return value, the 32-bit -EIO is interpreted as a large positive 64-bit number, i.e. 0x00000000fffffffa instead of 0xfffffffa. This goes particularly badly when the return value is taken as a number of bytes to copy into, say, a user's buffer for example... I originally had coded up the fix by creating a return_EIO_<TYPE> macro for each return type, like this: static int return_EIO_int(void) { return -EIO; } #define EIO_ERROR_INT ((void *) (return_EIO_int)) static struct inode_operations bad_inode_ops = { .create = EIO_ERROR_INT, ...etc... but Al felt that it was probably better to create an EIO-returner for each actual op signature. Since so few ops share a signature, I just went ahead & created an EIO function for each individual file & inode op that returns a value. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This is a conversion to make the various file_operations structs in fs/ const. Basically a regexp job, with a few manual fixups The goal is both to increase correctness (harder to accidentally write to shared datastructures) and reducing the false sharing of cachelines with things that get dirty in .data (while .rodata is nicely read only and thus cache clean) Signed-off-by: Arjan van de Ven <arjan@infradead.org> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@osdl.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>

Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
