ADI is supported for data fetches only and not instruction fetches. An app can enable ADI on its data pages, set version tags on them and use versioned addresses to access the data pages. Upper bits of the address contain the version tag. On M7 processors, upper four bits (bits 63-60) contain the version tag. If a rogue app attempts to access ADI enabled data pages, its access is blocked and processor generates an exception. Please see Documentation/sparc/adi.txt for further details. This patch extends mprotect to enable ADI (TSTATE.mcde), enable/disable MCD (Memory Corruption Detection) on selected memory ranges, enable TTE.mcd in PTEs, return ADI parameters to userspace and save/restore ADI version tags on page swap out/in or migration. ADI is not enabled by default for any task. A task must explicitly enable ADI on a memory range and set version tag for ADI to be effective for the task. Kernel can retrieve these properties for a platform through machine description provided by the firmware. This patch adds code to retrieve these properties and report them to userspace through auxiliary vectors. Therefore, system call functions such as sys_xyzzy() or compat_sys_xyzzy() should only be called from userspace via the syscall table, but not from elsewhere in the kernel. At least on 64-bit x86, it will likely be a hard requirement from v4.17 onwards to not call system call functions in the kernel: It is better to use use a different calling convention for system calls there, where struct pt_regs is decoded on-the-fly in a syscall wrapper which then hands processing over to the actual syscall function. This means that only those parameters which are actually needed for a specific syscall are passed on during syscall entry, instead of filling in six CPU registers with random user space content all the time (which may cause serious trouble down the call chain). Those x86-specific patches will be pushed through the x86 tree in the near future. Moreover, rules on how data may be accessed may differ between kernel data and user data. This is another reason why calling sys_xyzzy() is generally a bad idea, and -- at most -- acceptable in arch-specific code. This patchset removes all in-kernel calls to syscall functions in the kernel with the exception of arch/. However, in doing so, we lost a lot of the essential work that set_pmd_at() does, namely to update hugepage mapping counts and queuing up the batched TLB flush entry. Thus we were not flushing entries out of the TLB when making such PMD changes. Fix this by abstracting the accounting work of set_pmd_at() out into a separate function, and call it from pmdp_establish(). In short, variables that go out of scope by calling a noreturn function or __builtin_unreachable() keep using stack space in functions afterwards. A workaround that was identified is to insert an empty assembler statement just before calling the function that doesn't return. I'm adding a macro "barrier_before_unreachable()" to document this, and insert calls to that in all instances of BUG() that currently suffer from this problem. A user space library provides high level services and translates these into low level commands which are then passed into the driver and subsequently the hypervisor and the coprocessor. The library is the recommended way for applications to use the coprocessor, and the driver interface is not intended for general use. One of the ugly leftovers from the early eBPF days is that div/mod operations based on registers have a hard-coded src_reg == 0 test in the interpreter as well as in JIT code generators that would return from the BPF program with exit code 0. This was basically adopted from cBPF interpreter for historical reasons. There are multiple reasons why this is very suboptimal and prone to bugs. To name one: the return code mapping for such abnormal program exit of 0 does not always match with a suitable program type's exit code mapping. For example, '0' in tc means action 'ok' where the packet gets passed further up the stack, which is just undesirable for such cases (e.g. when implementing policy) and also does not match with other program types. After considering _four_ different ways to address the problem, we adapt the same behavior as on some major archs like ARMv8: X div 0 results in 0, and X mod 0 results in X. aarch64 and aarch32 ISA do not generate any traps or otherwise aborts of program execution for unsigned divides. Given the options, it seems the most suitable from all of them, also since major archs have similar schemes in place. As of today when writing BPF programs, __always_inline had to be used in the BPF C programs for all functions, unnecessarily causing LLVM to inflate code size. Handle this more naturally with support for BPF to BPF calls such that this __always_inline restriction can be overcome. As a result, it allows for better optimized code and finally enables to introduce core BPF libraries in the future that can be reused out of different projects. x86 and arm64 JIT support was added as well, from Alexei. 2) Add infrastructure for tagging functions as error injectable and allow for BPF to return arbitrary error values when BPF is attached via kprobes on those. This way of injecting errors generically eases testing and debugging without having to recompile or restart the kernel. Tags for opting-in for this facility are added with BPF_ALLOW_ERROR_INJECTION(), from Josef. 3) For BPF offload via nfp JIT, add support for bpf_xdp_adjust_head() helper call for XDP programs. First part of this work adds handling of BPF capabilities included in the firmware, and the later patches add support to the nfp verifier part and JIT as well as some small optimizations, from Jakub. 4) The bpftool now also gets support for basic cgroup BPF operations such as attaching, detaching and listing current BPF programs. As a requirement for the attach part, bpftool can now also load object files through 'bpftool prog load'. This reuses libbpf which we have in the kernel tree as well. bpftool-cgroup man page is added along with it, from Roman. 5) Back then commit e87c6bc3852b ("bpf: permit multiple bpf attachments for a single perf event") added support for attaching multiple BPF programs to a single perf event.
