| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Commit 43cedbf0e8dfb9c5610eb7985d5f21263e313802 (SUNRPC: Ensure that we grab the XPRT_LOCK before calling xprt_alloc_slot) is causing hangs in the case of NFS over UDP mounts. Since neither the UDP or the RDMA transport mechanism use dynamic slot allocation, we can skip grabbing the socket lock for those transports. Add a new rpc_xprt_op to allow switching between the TCP and UDP/RDMA case. Note that the NFSv4.1 back channel assigns the slot directly through rpc_run_bc_task, so we can ignore that case. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Pass the checks made by decode_getacl back to __nfs4_get_acl_uncached so that it knows if the acl has been truncated. The current overflow checking is broken, resulting in Oopses on user-triggered nfs4_getfacl calls, and is opaque to the point where several attempts at fixing it have failed. This patch tries to clean up the code in addition to fixing the Oopses by ensuring that the overflow checks are performed in a single place (decode_getacl). If the overflow check failed, we will still be able to report the acl length, but at least we will no longer attempt to cache the acl or copy the truncated contents to user space. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | When the NFS_COOKIEVERF helper macro was converted into a static inline function in commit 99fadcd764 (nfs: convert NFS_*(inode) helpers to static inline), we broke the initialisation of the readdir cookies, since that depended on doing a memset with an argument of 'sizeof(NFS_COOKIEVERF(inode))' which therefore changed from sizeof(be32 cookieverf[2]) to sizeof(be32 *). At this point, NFS_COOKIEVERF seems to be more of an obfuscation than a helper, so the best thing would be to just get rid of it. This can prevent the v4 module from loading on mount, since the kernel sees that something named "nfs4" has already been loaded. To work around this, I've renamed the modules to "nfsv2.ko" "nfsv3.ko" and "nfsv4.ko". I also had to move the nfs4_fs_type back to nfs.ko to ensure that `mount -t nfs4` still works. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Ever since commit 0a57cdac3f (NFSv4.1 send layoutreturn to fence disconnected data server) we've been sending layoutreturn calls while there is potentially still outstanding I/O to the data servers. The reason we do this is to avoid races between replayed writes to the MDS and the original writes to the DS. When this happens, the BUG_ON() in nfs4_layoutreturn_done can be triggered because it assumes that we would never call layoutreturn without knowing that all I/O to the DS is finished. The fix is to remove the BUG_ON() now that the assumptions behind the test are obsolete. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Depending on layout and ARCH, ORE has some limits on max IO sizes which is communicated on (what else) ore_layout->max_io_length, which is always stripe aligned. This was considered as the pg_test boundary for splitting and starting a new IO. But in the case of a long IO where the start offset is not aligned what would happen is that both end of IO[N] and start of IO[N+1] would be unaligned, causing each IO boundary parity unit to be calculated and written twice. So what we do in this patch is split the very start of an unaligned IO, up to a stripe boundary, and then next IO's can continue fully aligned til the end. We might be sacrificing the case where the full unaligned IO would fit within a single max_io_length, but the sacrifice is well worth the elimination of double calculation and parity units IO. Actually the sacrificing is marginal and is almost unmeasurable. TODO: If we know the total expected linear segment that will be received, at pg_init, we could use that information in many places: 1. blocks-layout get_layout write segment size 2. Better mds-threshold 3. In above situation for a better clean split I will do this in future submission. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | we have encountered a bug whereby reading a lot of files (copying fedora's /bin) from a pNFS mount and hitting Ctrl+C in the middle caused a general protection fault in xdr_shrink_bufhead. this function is called when decoding the response from LAYOUTGET. the decoding is done by a worker thread, and the caller of LAYOUTGET waits for the worker thread to complete. hitting Ctrl+C caused the synchronous wait to end and the next thing the caller does is to free the pages, so when the worker thread calls xdr_shrink_bufhead, the pages are gone. therefore, the cleanup of these pages has been moved to nfs4_layoutget_release. This can be used by controllers that have their own static linux IRQ definitions to map a hwirq range to, as well as for platforms that wish to establish 1:1 identity mapping between linux and hwirq space. For insertion to specified ranges by platforms that do their own irq_desc management: - irq_domain_associate() - irq_domain_associate_many() These in turn call back in to the domain's ->map() routine, for further processing by the platform. Disassociation of IRQs get handled through irq_dispose_mapping() as normal. With these in place it should be possible to begin migration of legacy IRQ domains to linear ones, without requiring special handling for static vs dynamic IRQ definitions in DT vs non-DT paths. This also makes it possible for domains with static mappings to adopt whichever tree model best fits their needs, rather than simply restricting them to linear revmaps. The interrupt controller itself typically is not affected by the mapping used and best practice is to use a linear mapping where possible so drivers frequently select at runtime depending on if a legacy range has been allocated to them. Standardise this behaviour by providing irq_domain_register_simple() which will allocate a linear mapping unless a positive first_irq is provided in which case it will fall back to a legacy mapping. Presently we observe a number of regressions/inconsistencies on NUMA-capable platforms: - Platforms using irqdomains with legacy mappings, where the irq_descs are allocated node-local and the irqdomain data structure is not. - Drivers implementing irqdomains will lose node locality regardless of the underlying struct device's node id. This plugs in NUMA node id proliferation across the various allocation callsites by way of_node_to_nid() node lookup. While of_node_to_nid() does the right thing for OF-capable platforms it doesn't presently handle the non-DT case. This is trivially dealt with by simply wraping in to numa_node_id() unconditionally. To reproduce it I was doing the following on a single socket I7-based machine with 16G of RAM. $ hugeadm --pool-pages-max DEFAULT:13G $ echo $((18*1048576*1024)) > /proc/sys/kernel/shmmax $ echo $((18*1048576*1024)) > /proc/sys/kernel/shmall $ for i in `seq 1 9000`; do ./hugetlbfs-test; done On my particular machine, it usually triggers within 10 minutes but enabling debug options can change the timing such that it never hits. Once the bug is triggered, the machine is in trouble and needs to be rebooted. The machine will respond but processes accessing proc like "ps aux" will hang due to the BUG_ON. shutdown will also hang and needs a hard reset or a sysrq-b. The basic problem is a race between page table sharing and teardown. For the most part page table sharing depends on i_mmap_mutex. In some cases, it is also taking the mm->page_table_lock for the PTE updates but with shared page tables, it is the i_mmap_mutex that is more important. Unfortunately it appears to be also insufficient. The i_mmap_mutex on its own does not prevent Process A walking Process B's page tables. At (1) above, the page tables are not shared yet so it unmaps the PMDs. Process A sets up page table sharing and at (2) faults a new entry. Process B then trips up on it in free_pgtables. This patch fixes the problem by adding a new function __unmap_hugepage_range_final that is only called when the VMA is about to be destroyed. This function clears VM_MAYSHARE during unmap_hugepage_range() under the i_mmap_mutex. This makes the VMA ineligible for sharing and avoids the race. Superficially this looks like it would then be vunerable to truncate and madvise issues but hugetlbfs has its own truncate handlers so does not use unmap_mapping_range() and does not support madvise(DONTNEED). This should be treated as a -stable candidate if it is merged. Test program is as follows. Arch code and memory hotplug already initiailize pg_data_t. So this warning should never happen. I select fields randomly near the beginning, middle and end of pg_data_t for checking. This patch isn't for performance but for removing initialization code which is necessary to add whenever we adds new field to pg_data_t or zone. Firstly, Andrew suggested clearing out of pg_data_t in MM core part but Tejun doesn't like it because in the future, some archs can initialize some fields in arch code and pass them into general MM part so blindly clearing it out in mm core part would be very annoying. I traced the problem to the following code path (see below) when we are trying to reclaim memory from file cache. The res_counter_uncharge function is called on every page that's reclaimed and created heavy lock contention. The patch below allows the reclaimed pages to be uncharged from the resource counter in batch and recovered the regression. The lock is not necessary anymore because the function is called only during boot (during paging init which is executed only from a single CPU) and from the hotplug code (by add_memory() via arch_add_memory()) which uses mem_hotplug_mutex. The lock was introduced by 28ae55c9 ("sparsemem extreme: hotplug preparation") and sparse_index_init() was used only during boot at that time. Later when the hotplug code (and add_memory()) was introduced there was no synchronization so it was possible to online more sections from the same root probably (though I am not 100% sure about that). The first synchronization has been added by 6ad696d2 ("mm: allow memory hotplug and hibernation in the same kernel") which was later replaced by the mem_hotplug_mutex - 20d6c96b ("mem-hotplug: introduce {un}lock_memory_hotplug()"). Let's remove the lock as it is not needed and it makes the code more confusing. It's possible that the specified memory section descriptor doesn't exist in the global array. So add more checking on that and report an error for a wrong case.
