Original kcs_bmc_npcm7xx.c was missing enabling to send interrupt to the host on writes to output buffer. This patch fixes it by setting the bits that enables the generation of IRQn events by hardware control based on the status of the OBF flag. This driver exposes the Keyboard Controller Style (KCS) interface on Novoton NPCM7xx SoCs as a character device. Such SOCs are commonly used as a BaseBoard Management Controller (BMC) on a server board, and KCS interface is commonly used to perform the in-band IPMI communication between the server and its BMC. The KCS (Keyboard Controller Style) interface is used to perform in-band IPMI communication between a server host and its BMC (BaseBoard Management Controllers). This driver exposes the KCS interface on ASpeed SOCs (AST2400 and AST2500) as a character device. Such SOCs are commonly used as BMCs and this driver implements the BMC side of the KCS interface. When I set the timeout to a specific value such as 500ms, the timeout event will not happen in time due to the overflow in function check_msg_timeout: ... ent->timeout -= timeout_period; if (ent->timeout > 0) return; ... The type of timeout_period is long, but ent->timeout is unsigned long. This patch makes the type consistent.
