* net: Convert all sysctl registrations to register_net_sysctlEric W. Biederman2012-04-201-7/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | This results in code with less boiler plate that is a bit easier to read. Additionally stops us from using compatibility code in the sysctl core, hastening the day when the compatibility code can be removed. Signed-off-by: Eric W. * net: Move all of the network sysctls without a namespace into init_net.Eric W. Biederman2012-04-201-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This makes it clearer which sysctls are relative to your current network namespace. This makes it a little less error prone by not exposing sysctls for the initial network namespace in other namespaces. This is the same way we handle all of our other network interfaces to userspace and I can't honestly remember why we didn't do this for sysctls right from the start. Signed-off-by: Eric W. * NET: NETROM: When adding a route verify length of mnemonic string.Ralf Baechle2011-11-291-0/+5
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | struct nr_route_struct's mnemonic permits a string of up to 7 bytes to be used. If userland passes a not zero terminated string to the kernel adding a node to the routing table might result in the kernel attempting to read copy a too long string. Mnemonic is part of the NET/ROM routing protocol; NET/ROM routing table updates only broadcast 6 bytes. The 7th byte in the mnemonic array exists only as a \0 termination character for the kernel code's convenience. Fixed by rejecting mnemonic strings that have no terminating \0 in the first 7 characters. Do this test only NETROM_NODE to avoid breaking NETROM_NEIGH where userland might passing an uninitialized mnemonic field. Initial patch by Dan Carpenter <dan.carpenter@oracle.com>. * include cleanup: Update gfp.h and slab.h includes to prepare for breaking ↵Tejun Heo2010-03-307-0/+7
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | implicit slab.h inclusion from percpu.h percpu.h is included by sched.h and module.h and thus ends up being included when building most .c files. percpu.h includes slab.h which in turn includes gfp.h making everything defined by the two files universally available and complicating inclusion dependencies. percpu.h -> slab.h dependency is about to be removed. Prepare for this change by updating users of gfp and slab facilities include those headers directly instead of assuming availability. As this conversion needs to touch large number of source files, the following script is used as the basis of conversion. http://userweb.kernel.org/~tj/misc/slabh-sweep.py The script does the followings. * Scan files for gfp and slab usages and update includes such that only the necessary includes are there. ie. if only gfp is used, gfp.h, if slab is used, slab.h. * When the script inserts a new include, it looks at the include blocks and try to put the new include such that its order conforms to its surrounding. It's put in the include block which contains core kernel includes, in the same order that the rest are ordered - alphabetical, Christmas tree, rev-Xmas-tree or at the end if there doesn't seem to be any matching order. * If the script can't find a place to put a new include (mostly because the file doesn't have fitting include block), it prints out an error message indicating which .h file needs to be added to the file. The conversion was done in the following steps. 1. The initial automatic conversion of all .c files updated slightly over 4000 files, deleting around 700 includes and adding ~480 gfp.h and ~3000 slab.h inclusions. The script emitted errors for ~400 files. 2. Each error was manually checked. Some didn't need the inclusion, some needed manual addition while adding it to implementation .h or embedding .c file was more appropriate for others. This step added inclusions to around 150 files. 3. The script was run again and the output was compared to the edits from #2 to make sure no file was left behind. 4. Several build tests were done and a couple of problems were fixed. e.g. lib/decompress_*.c used malloc/free() wrappers around slab APIs requiring slab.h to be added manually. 5. The script was run on all .h files but without automatically editing them as sprinkling gfp.h and slab.h inclusions around .h files could easily lead to inclusion dependency hell. Most gfp.h inclusion directives were ignored as stuff from gfp.h was usually wildly available and often used in preprocessor macros. Each slab.h inclusion directive was examined and added manually as necessary. 6. percpu.h was updated not to include slab.h. 7. Build test were done on the following configurations and failures were fixed. CONFIG_GCOV_KERNEL was turned off for all tests (as my distributed build env didn't work with gcov compiles) and a few more options had to be turned off depending on archs to make things build (like ipr on powerpc/64 which failed due to missing writeq). * x86 and x86_64 UP and SMP allmodconfig and a custom test config. * powerpc and powerpc64 SMP allmodconfig * sparc and sparc64 SMP allmodconfig * ia64 SMP allmodconfig * s390 SMP allmodconfig * alpha SMP allmodconfig * um on x86_64 SMP allmodconfig 8. percpu.h modifications were reverted so that it could be applied as a separate patch and serve as bisection point. Given the fact that I had only a couple of failures from tests on step 6, I'm fairly confident about the coverage of this conversion patch. If there is a breakage, it's likely to be something in one of the arch headers which should be easily discoverable easily on most builds of the specific arch. We must take care of the sk_wmem_alloc value being one instead of zero when no write allocations are pending. Reported by Ingo Molnar, and full diagnostic from David Miller. * netdev: Allocate multiple queues for TX.David S. Miller2008-07-171-2/+4
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | alloc_netdev_mq() now allocates an array of netdev_queue structures for TX, based upon the queue_count argument. Furthermore, all accesses to the TX queues are now vectored through the netdev_get_tx_queue() and netdev_for_each_tx_queue() interfaces. This makes it easy to grep the tree for all things that want to get to a TX queue of a net device. Problem spots which are not really multiqueue aware yet, and only work with one queue, can easily be spotted by grepping for all netdev_get_tx_queue() calls that pass in a zero index. * netdev: Move _xmit_lock and xmit_lock_owner into netdev_queue.David S. Miller2008-07-081-1/+11
| | | | | | | Accesses are mostly structured such that when there are multiple TX queues the code transformations will be a little bit simpler. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
* netrom: Kill spurious NULL'ing of sk->sk_socket.David S. Miller2008-06-171-2/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | In nr_release(), one code path calls sock_orphan() which will NULL out sk->sk_socket already. In the other case, handling states other than NR_STATE_{0,1,2,3}, seems to not be possible other than due to bugs. Even for an uninitialized nr->state value, that would be zero or NR_STATE_0. It might be wise to stick a WARN_ON() here. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
* netrom: Use sock_graft() and remove bogus sk_socket and sk_sleep init.David S. Miller2008-06-171-5/+1
| | | | | | | | This is the netrom variant of changeset 9375cb8a1232d2a15fe34bec4d3474872e02faec ("ax25: Use sock_graft() and remove bogus sk_socket and sk_sleep init.") Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
* [NET] NETNS: Omit sock->sk_net without CONFIG_NET_NS.YOSHIFUJI Hideaki2008-03-261-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | Introduce per-sock inlines: sock_net(), sock_net_set() and per-inet_timewait_sock inlines: twsk_net(), twsk_net_set(). Without CONFIG_NET_NS, no namespace other than &init_net exists. Let's explicitly define them to help compiler optimizations. Signed-off-by: YOSHIFUJI Hideaki <yoshfuji@linux-ipv6.org>
* [NET] NETNS: Omit net_device->nd_net without CONFIG_NET_NS.YOSHIFUJI Hideaki2008-03-261-1/+1
| | | | | | | | Introduce per-net_device inlines: dev_net(), dev_net_set(). Without CONFIG_NET_NS, no namespace other than &init_net exists. Let's explicitly define them to help compiler optimizations. Signed-off-by: YOSHIFUJI Hideaki <yoshfuji@linux-ipv6.org>
* [NET]: Simple ctl_table to ctl_path conversions.Pavel Emelyanov2008-01-281-19/+5
| | | | | | | | | | | This patch includes many places, that only required replacing the ctl_table-s with appropriate ctl_paths and call register_sysctl_paths(). Nothing special was done with them. Signed-off-by: Pavel Emelyanov <xemul@openvz.org> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
