| * ipv6: kill sk_dst_lockEric Dumazet2015-12-031-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | While testing the np->opt RCU conversion, I found that UDP/IPv6 was using a mixture of xchg() and sk_dst_lock to protect concurrent changes to sk->sk_dst_cache, leading to possible corruptions and crashes. ip6_sk_dst_lookup_flow() uses sk_dst_check() anyway, so the simplest way to fix the mess is to remove sk_dst_lock completely, as we did for IPv4. __ip6_dst_store() and ip6_dst_store() share same implementation. sk_setup_caps() being called with socket lock being held or not, we have to use sk_dst_set() instead of __sk_dst_set() Note that I had to move the "np->dst_cookie = rt6_get_cookie(rt);" in ip6_dst_store() before the sk_setup_caps(sk, dst) call. This is because ip6_dst_store() can be called from process context, without any lock held. As soon as the dst is installed in sk->sk_dst_cache, dst can be freed from another cpu doing a concurrent ip6_dst_store() Doing the dst dereference before doing the install is needed to make sure no use after free would trigger. | * ipv6: add complete rcu protection around np->optEric Dumazet2015-12-021-12/+21
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch addresses multiple problems : UDP/RAW sendmsg() need to get a stable struct ipv6_txoptions while socket is not locked : Other threads can change np->opt concurrently. Dmitry posted a syzkaller (http://github.com/google/syzkaller) program desmonstrating use-after-free. Starting with TCP/DCCP lockless listeners, tcp_v6_syn_recv_sock() and dccp_v6_request_recv_sock() also need to use RCU protection to dereference np->opt once (before calling ipv6_dup_options()) This patch adds full RCU protection to np->opt Reported-by: Dmitry Vyukov <dvyukov@google.com> Signed-off-by: Eric Dumazet <edumazet@google.com> Acked-by: Hannes Frederic Sowa <hannes@stressinduktion.org> Signed-off-by: David S. | * net: rename SOCK_ASYNC_NOSPACE and SOCK_ASYNC_WAITDATAEric Dumazet2015-12-011-2/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch is a cleanup to make following patch easier to review. Goal is to move SOCK_ASYNC_NOSPACE and SOCK_ASYNC_WAITDATA from (struct socket)->flags to a (struct socket_wq)->flags to benefit from RCU protection in sock_wake_async() To ease backports, we rename both constants. Two new helpers, sk_set_bit(int nr, struct sock *sk) and sk_clear_bit(int net, struct sock *sk) are added so that following patch can change their implementation. * tcp/dccp: fix ireq->pktopts raceEric Dumazet2015-11-021-8/+8
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | IPv6 request sockets store a pointer to skb containing the SYN packet to be able to transfer it to full blown socket when 3WHS is done (ireq->pktopts -> np->pktoptions) As explained in commit 5e0724d027f0 ("tcp/dccp: fix hashdance race for passive sessions"), we must transfer the skb only if we won the hashdance race, if multiple cpus receive the 'ack' packet completing 3WHS at the same time. * Use 64-bit timekeepingTina Ruchandani2015-11-011-5/+6
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch changes the use of struct timespec in dccp_probe to use struct timespec64 instead. timespec uses a 32-bit seconds field which will overflow in the year 2038 and beyond. timespec64 uses a 64-bit seconds field. Note that the correctness of the code isn't changed, since the original code only uses the timestamps to compute a small elapsed interval. This patch is part of a larger attempt to remove instances of 32-bit timekeeping structures (timespec, timeval, time_t) from the kernel so it is easier to identify where the real 2038 issues are. * tcp/dccp: fix hashdance race for passive sessionsEric Dumazet2015-10-234-13/+20
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Multiple cpus can process duplicates of incoming ACK messages matching a SYN_RECV request socket. This is a rare event under normal operations, but definitely can happen. Only one must win the race, otherwise corruption would occur. To fix this without adding new atomic ops, we use logic in inet_ehash_nolisten() to detect the request was present in the same ehash bucket where we try to insert the new child. If request socket was not found, we have to undo the child creation. This actually removes a spin_lock()/spin_unlock() pair in reqsk_queue_unlink() for the fast path. * Revert "inet: fix double request socket freeing"Eric Dumazet2015-10-161-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This reverts commit c69736696cf3742b37d850289dc0d7ead177bb14. At the time of above commit, tcp_req_err() and dccp_req_err() were dead code, as SYN_RECV request sockets were not yet in ehash table. Real bug was fixed later in a different commit. We need to revert to not leak a refcount on request socket. inet_csk_reqsk_queue_drop_and_put() will be added in following commit to make clean inet_csk_reqsk_queue_drop() does not release the reference owned by caller. * tcp/dccp: fix behavior of stale SYN_RECV request socketsEric Dumazet2015-10-132-16/+14
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | When a TCP/DCCP listener is closed, its pending SYN_RECV request sockets become stale, meaning 3WHS can not complete. But current behavior is wrong : incoming packets finding such stale sockets are dropped. We need instead to cleanup the request socket and perform another lookup : - Incoming ACK will give a RST answer, - SYN rtx might find another listener if available. - We expedite cleanup of request sockets and old listener socket. * tcp: avoid two atomic ops for syncookiesEric Dumazet2015-10-052-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | inet_reqsk_alloc() is used to allocate a temporary request in order to generate a SYNACK with a cookie. Then later, syncookie validation also uses a temporary request. These paths already took a reference on listener refcount, we can avoid a couple of atomic operations. Signed-off-by: Eric Dumazet <edumazet@google.com> Signed-off-by: David S. * tcp/dccp: install syn_recv requests into ehash tableEric Dumazet2015-10-032-93/+43
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | In this patch, we insert request sockets into TCP/DCCP regular ehash table (where ESTABLISHED and TIMEWAIT sockets are) instead of using the per listener hash table. ACK packets find SYN_RECV pseudo sockets without having to find and lock the listener. In nominal conditions, this halves pressure on listener lock. Note that this will allow for SO_REUSEPORT refinements, so that we can select a listener using cpu/numa affinities instead of the prior 'consistent hash', since only SYN packets will apply this selection logic. We will shrink listen_sock in the following patch to ease code review. | * tcp/dccp: fix timewait races in timer handlingEric Dumazet2015-09-211-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | When creating a timewait socket, we need to arm the timer before allowing other cpus to find it. The signal allowing cpus to find the socket is setting tw_refcnt to non zero value. As we set tw_refcnt in __inet_twsk_hashdance(), we therefore need to call inet_twsk_schedule() first. This also means we need to remove tw_refcnt changes from inet_twsk_schedule() and let the caller handle it. Note that because we use mod_timer_pinned(), we have the guarantee the timer wont expire before we set tw_refcnt as we run in BH context. To make things more readable I introduced inet_twsk_reschedule() helper. When rearming the timer, we can use mod_timer_pending() to make sure we do not rearm a canceled timer. Note: This bug can possibly trigger if packets of a flow can hit multiple cpus. This does not normally happen, unless flow steering is broken somehow. This explains this bug was spotted ~5 months after its introduction. A similar fix is needed for SYN_RECV sockets in reqsk_queue_hash_req(), but will be provided in a separate patch for proper tracking. * tcp: fix recv with flags MSG_WAITALL | MSG_PEEKSabrina Dubroca2015-07-271-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Currently, tcp_recvmsg enters a busy loop in sk_wait_data if called with flags = MSG_WAITALL | MSG_PEEK. sk_wait_data waits for sk_receive_queue not empty, but in this case, the receive queue is not empty, but does not contain any skb that we can use. Add a "last skb seen on receive queue" argument to sk_wait_data, so that it sleeps until the receive queue has new skbs. * inet: fix possible panic in reqsk_queue_unlink()Eric Dumazet2015-04-243-4/+5
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | [ 3897.923145] BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at 0000000000000080 [ 3897.931025] IP: [<ffffffffa9f27686>] reqsk_timer_handler+0x1a6/0x243 There is a race when reqsk_timer_handler() and tcp_check_req() call inet_csk_reqsk_queue_unlink() on the same req at the same time. Before commit fa76ce7328b2 ("inet: get rid of central tcp/dccp listener timer"), listener spinlock was held and race could not happen. To solve this bug, we change reqsk_queue_unlink() to not assume req must be found, and we return a status, to conditionally release a refcount on the request sock. This also means tcp_check_req() in non fastopen case might or not consume req refcount, so tcp_v6_hnd_req() & tcp_v4_hnd_req() have to properly handle this. (Same remark for dccp_check_req() and its callers) inet_csk_reqsk_queue_drop() is now too big to be inlined, as it is called 4 times in tcp and 3 times in dccp. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Using a timer wheel for timewait sockets was nice ~15 years ago when memory was expensive and machines had a single processor. This does not scale, code is ugly and source of huge latencies (Typically 30 ms have been seen, cpus spinning on death_lock spinlock.) We can afford to use an extra 64 bytes per timewait sock and spread timewait load to all cpus to have better behavior. * ipv6: dccp: handle ICMP messages on DCCP_NEW_SYN_RECV request socketsEric Dumazet2015-03-231-33/+8
| | | | | | | | | | dccp_v6_err() can restrict lookups to ehash table, and not to listeners. Note this patch creates the infrastructure, but this means that ICMP messages for request sockets are ignored until complete conversion. * ipv4: dccp: handle ICMP messages on DCCP_NEW_SYN_RECV request socketsEric Dumazet2015-03-232-36/+35
| | | | | | | | | | | | | dccp_v4_err() can restrict lookups to ehash table, and not to listeners. Note this patch creates the infrastructure, but this means that ICMP messages for request sockets are ignored until complete conversion. New dccp_req_err() helper is exported so that we can use it in IPv6 in following patch. Signed-off-by: Eric Dumazet <edumazet@google.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
* inet: remove sk_listener parameter from syn_ack_timeout()Eric Dumazet2015-03-231-1/+1
| | | | | | | | It is not needed, and req->sk_listener points to the listener anyway. request_sock argument can be const. Signed-off-by: Eric Dumazet <edumazet@google.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
* inet: get rid of central tcp/dccp listener timerEric Dumazet2015-03-203-30/+16
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | One of the major issue for TCP is the SYNACK rtx handling, done by inet_csk_reqsk_queue_prune(), fired by the keepalive timer of a TCP_LISTEN socket. This function runs for awful long times, with socket lock held, meaning that other cpus needing this lock have to spin for hundred of ms. SYNACK are sent in huge bursts, likely to cause severe drops anyway. This model was OK 15 years ago when memory was very tight. We now can afford to have a timer per request sock. Timer invocations no longer need to lock the listener, and can be run from all cpus in parallel. With following patch increasing somaxconn width to 32 bits, I tested a listener with more than 4 million active request sockets, and a steady SYNFLOOD of ~200,000 SYN per second. Host was sending ~830,000 SYNACK per second. This is ~100 times more what we could achieve before this patch. Later, we will get rid of the listener hash and use ehash instead. * inet: drop prev pointer handling in request sockEric Dumazet2015-03-204-25/+18
| | | | | | | | | | | When request sock are put in ehash table, the whole notion of having a previous request to update dl_next is pointless. Also, following patch will get rid of big purge timer, so we want to delete a request sock without holding listener lock. Signed-off-by: Eric Dumazet <edumazet@google.com> Signed-off-by: David S. * inet: request sock should init IPv6/IPv4 addressesEric Dumazet2015-03-181-2/+2
| | | | | | | | In order to be able to use sk_ehashfn() for request socks, we need to initialize their IPv6/IPv4 addresses. Signed-off-by: Eric Dumazet <edumazet@google.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
* ipv6: get rid of __inet6_hash()Eric Dumazet2015-03-181-15/+2
| | | | | | | | We can now use inet_hash() and __inet_hash() instead of private functions. Signed-off-by: Eric Dumazet <edumazet@google.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
* inet: add IPv6 support to sk_ehashfn()Eric Dumazet2015-03-182-13/+6
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Intent is to converge IPv4 & IPv6 inet_hash functions to factorize code. IPv4 sockets initialize sk_rcv_saddr and sk_v6_daddr in this patch, thanks to new sk_daddr_set() and sk_rcv_saddr_set() helpers. __inet6_hash can now use sk_ehashfn() instead of a private inet6_sk_ehashfn() and will simply use __inet_hash() in a following patch. * inet: add sk_listener argument to inet_reqsk_alloc()Eric Dumazet2015-03-172-4/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | listener socket can be used to set net pointer, and will be later used to hold a reference on listener. Add a const qualifier to first argument (struct request_sock_ops *), and factorize all write_pnet(&ireq->ireq_net, sock_net(sk)); Signed-off-by: Eric Dumazet <edumazet@google.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
* inet: fill request sock ir_iif for IPv4Eric Dumazet2015-03-141-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Once request socks will be in ehash table, they will need to have a valid ir_iff field. This is currently true only for IPv6. This patch extends support for IPv4 as well. This means inet_diag_fill_req() can now properly use ir_iif, which is better for IPv6 link locals anyway, as request sockets and established sockets will propagate consistent netlink idiag_if. | | | | | | | | | | | I forgot to update dccp_v6_conn_request() & cookie_v6_check(). * net: add real socket cookiesEric Dumazet2015-03-111-0/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | A long standing problem in netlink socket dumps is the use of kernel socket addresses as cookies. 1) It is a security concern. 2) Sockets can be reused quite quickly, so there is no guarantee a cookie is used once and identify a flow. 3) request sock, establish sock, and timewait socks for a given flow have different cookies. Part of our effort to bring better TCP statistics requires to switch to a different allocator. In this patch, I chose to use a per network namespace 64bit generator, and to use it only in the case a socket needs to be dumped to netlink. (This might be refined later if needed) Note that I tried to carry cookies from request sock, to establish sock, then timewait sockets. * net: Remove iocb argument from sendmsg and recvmsgYing Xue2015-03-023-11/+7
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | After TIPC doesn't depend on iocb argument in its internal implementations of sendmsg() and recvmsg() hooks defined in proto structure, no any user is using iocb argument in them at all now. Then we can drop the redundant iocb argument completely from kinds of implementations of both sendmsg() and recvmsg() in the entire networking stack.
