* | net: pass kern to net_proto_family create functionEric Paris2009-11-051-1/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The generic __sock_create function has a kern argument which allows the security system to make decisions based on if a socket is being created by the kernel or by userspace. This patch passes that flag to the net_proto_family specific create function, so it can do the same thing. * net: Add DEVTYPE support for Ethernet based devicesMarcel Holtmann2009-09-111-0/+5
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The Ethernet framing is used for a lot of devices these days. Most prominent are WiFi and WiMAX based devices. However for userspace application it is important to classify these devices correctly and not only see them as Ethernet devices. The daemons like HAL, DeviceKit or even NetworkManager with udev support tries to do the classification in userspace with a lot trickery and extra system calls. This is not good and actually reaches its limitations. Especially since the kernel does know the type of the Ethernet device it is pretty stupid. To solve this problem the underlying device type needs to be set and then the value will be exported as DEVTYPE via uevents and available within udev. # cat /sys/class/net/wlan0/uevent DEVTYPE=wlan INTERFACE=wlan0 IFINDEX=5 This is similar to subsystems like USB and SCSI that distinguish between hosts, devices, disks, partitions etc. The new SET_NETDEV_DEVTYPE() is a convenience helper to set the actual device type. All device types are free form, but for convenience the same strings as used with RFKILL are choosen. Signed-off-by: Marcel Holtmann <marcel@holtmann.org> Signed-off-by: David S. * net: use NETDEV_TX_OK instead of 0 in ndo_start_xmit() functionsPatrick McHardy2009-07-051-3/+3
| | | | | | | | | | | This patch is the result of an automatic spatch transformation to convert all ndo_start_xmit() return values of 0 to NETDEV_TX_OK. Some occurences are missed by the automatic conversion, those will be handled in a seperate patch. Signed-off-by: Patrick McHardy <kaber@trash.net> Signed-off-by: David S. | | | | | | | | | | | | Convert to net_device_ops and use internal net_device_stats in bnep device. * Bluetooth: Enable per-module dynamic debug messagesMarcel Holtmann2008-11-304-16/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | With the introduction of CONFIG_DYNAMIC_PRINTK_DEBUG it is possible to allow debugging without having to recompile the kernel. This patch turns all BT_DBG() calls into pr_debug() to support dynamic debug messages. As a side effect all CONFIG_BT_*_DEBUG statements are now removed and some broken debug entries have been fixed. * netdevice: safe convert to netdev_priv() #part-4Wang Chen2008-11-122-4/+4
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | We have some reasons to kill netdev->priv: 1. netdev->priv is equal to netdev_priv(). 2. netdev_priv() wraps the calculation of netdev->priv's offset, obviously netdev_priv() is more flexible than netdev->priv. But we cann't kill netdev->priv, because so many drivers reference to it directly. This patch is a safe convert for netdev->priv to netdev_priv(netdev). Since all of the netdev->priv is only for read. But it is too big to be sent in one mail. I split it to 4 parts and make every part smaller than 100,000 bytes, which is max size allowed by vger. * [Bluetooth] Consolidate maintainers informationMarcel Holtmann2008-08-181-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | The Bluetooth entries for the MAINTAINERS file are a little bit too much. Consolidate them into two entries. One for Bluetooth drivers and another one for the Bluetooth subsystem. Also the MODULE_AUTHOR should indicate the current maintainer of the module and actually not the original author. Fix all Bluetooth modules to provide current maintainer information. Signed-off-by: Marcel Holtmann <marcel@holtmann.org>
* [Bluetooth] Add parameters to control BNEP header compressionMarcel Holtmann2008-08-071-3/+12
| | | | | | | | | | The Bluetooth qualification for PAN demands testing with BNEP header compression disabled. This is actually pretty stupid and the Linux implementation outsmarts the test system since it compresses whenever possible. So to pass qualification two need parameters have been added to control the compression of source and destination headers. Signed-off-by: Marcel Holtmann <marcel@holtmann.org>

| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | When using the HIDP or BNEP kernel support, the user-space needs to know if the connection has been terminated for some reasons. Wake up the application if that happens. Otherwise kernel and user-space are no longer on the same page and weird behaviors can happen. Signed-off-by: Marcel Holtmann <marcel@holtmann.org>

* [BLUETOOTH]: Use sockfd_put()Julia Lawall2008-01-281-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The function sockfd_lookup uses fget on the value that is stored in the file field of the returned structure, so fput should ultimately be applied to this value. This can be done directly, but it seems better to use the specific macro sockfd_put, which does the same thing. The problem was fixed using the following semantic patch. (http://www.emn.fr/x-info/coccinelle/) // <smpl> @@ expression s; @@ s = sockfd_lookup(...) ... + sockfd_put(s); ?- fput(s->file); // </smpl> Signed-off-by: Julia Lawall <julia@diku.dk> Signed-off-by: David S. * [NET]: Forget the zero_it argument of sk_alloc()Pavel Emelyanov2007-11-011-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Finally, the zero_it argument can be completely removed from the callers and from the function prototype. Besides, fix the checkpatch.pl warnings about using the assignments inside if-s. This patch is rather big, and it is a part of the previous one. I splitted it wishing to make the patches more readable. Hope this particular split helped. Signed-off-by: Pavel Emelyanov <xemul@openvz.org> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

Given that the author used an ß at all in a source file indicates that the real name has in fact a 'ß' and not an 'ss', which is commonly used as a substitute for 'ß' when limited to 7bit.) * Correct town names (Goettingen -> Göttingen) * Update Eberhard Mönkeberg's address (http://lkml.org/lkml/2007/1/8/313) Signed-off-by: Jan Engelhardt <jengelh@gmx.de> Signed-off-by: Adrian Bunk <bunk@kernel.org>
* [NET]: Make socket creation namespace safe.Eric W. Biederman2007-10-101-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch passes in the namespace a new socket should be created in and has the socket code do the appropriate reference counting. By virtue of this all socket create methods are touched. In addition the socket create methods are modified so that they will fail if you attempt to create a socket in a non-default network namespace. Failing if we attempt to create a socket outside of the default network namespace ensures that as we incrementally make the network stack network namespace aware we will not export functionality that someone has not audited and made certain is network namespace safe. Allowing us to partially enable network namespaces before all of the exotic protocols are supported. Any protocol layers I have missed will fail to compile because I now pass an extra parameter into the socket creation code. * Freezer: make kernel threads nonfreezable by defaultRafael J. Wysocki2007-07-171-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Currently, the freezer treats all tasks as freezable, except for the kernel threads that explicitly set the PF_NOFREEZE flag for themselves. This approach is problematic, since it requires every kernel thread to either set PF_NOFREEZE explicitly, or call try_to_freeze(), even if it doesn't care for the freezing of tasks at all. It seems better to only require the kernel threads that want to or need to be frozen to use some freezer-related code and to remove any freezer-related code from the other (nonfreezable) kernel threads, which is done in this patch. The patch causes all kernel threads to be nonfreezable by default (ie. to have PF_NOFREEZE set by default) and introduces the set_freezable() function that should be called by the freezable kernel threads in order to unset PF_NOFREEZE. It also makes all of the currently freezable kernel threads call set_freezable(), so it shouldn't cause any (intentional) change of behaviour to appear. Additionally, it updates documentation to describe the freezing of tasks more accurately. [akpm@linux-foundation.org: build fixes] Signed-off-by: Rafael J. * [SK_BUFF]: Introduce skb_mac_header()Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo2007-04-251-4/+7
| | | | | | | | | | | | For the places where we need a pointer to the mac header, it is still legal to touch skb->mac.raw directly if just adding to, subtracting from or setting it to another layer header. This one also converts some more cases to skb_reset_mac_header() that my regex missed as it had no spaces before nor after '=', ugh. * [SK_BUFF]: Introduce skb_reset_mac_header(skb)Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo2007-04-251-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | For the common, open coded 'skb->mac.raw = skb->data' operation, so that we can later turn skb->mac.raw into a offset, reducing the size of struct sk_buff in 64bit land while possibly keeping it as a pointer on 32bit. This one touches just the most simple case, next will handle the slightly more "complex" cases. Signed-off-by: Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo <acme@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: David S. * [PATCH] remove many unneeded #includes of sched.hTim Schmielau2007-02-141-1/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | After Al Viro (finally) succeeded in removing the sched.h #include in module.h recently, it makes sense again to remove other superfluous sched.h includes. There are quite a lot of files which include it but don't actually need anything defined in there. Presumably these includes were once needed for macros that used to live in sched.h, but moved to other header files in the course of cleaning it up. To ease the pain, this time I did not fiddle with any header files and only removed #includes from .c-files, which tend to cause less trouble. Compile tested against 2.6.20-rc2 and 2.6.20-rc2-mm2 (with offsets) on alpha, arm, i386, ia64, mips, powerpc, and x86_64 with allnoconfig, defconfig, allmodconfig, and allyesconfig as well as a few randconfigs on x86_64 and all configs in arch/arm/configs on arm. I also checked that no new warnings were introduced by the patch (actually, some warnings are removed that were emitted by unnecessarily included header files). * [NET]: move struct proto_ops to constEric Dumazet2006-01-031-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | I noticed that some of 'struct proto_ops' used in the kernel may share a cache line used by locks or other heavily modified data. (default linker alignement is 32 bytes, and L1_CACHE_LINE is 64 or 128 at least) This patch makes sure a 'struct proto_ops' can be declared as const, so that all cpus can share all parts of it without false sharing. This is not mandatory : a driver can still use a read/write structure if it needs to (and eventually a __read_mostly) I made a global stubstitute to change all existing occurences to make them const. This should reduce the possibility of false sharing on SMP, and speedup some socket system calls. Signed-off-by: Eric Dumazet <dada1@cosmosbay.com> Signed-off-by: David S. * [PATCH] kill gratitious includes of major.h under net/*Al Viro2005-04-251-1/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | A lot of places in there are including major.h for no reason whatsoever. Removed. And yes, it still builds. The history of that stuff is often amusing. E.g. for net/core/sock.c the story looks so, as far as I've been able to reconstruct it: we used to need major.h in net/socket.c circa 1.1.early. In 1.1.13 that need had disappeared, along with register_chrdev(SOCKET_MAJOR, "socket", &net_fops) in sock_init(). Include had not. When 1.2 -> 1.3 reorg of net/* had moved a lot of stuff from net/socket.c to net/core/sock.c, this crap had followed... Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
