* [PATCH] i386: Clean up asm-i386/bugs.hJeremy Fitzhardinge2007-05-021-190/+4
| | | | | | | | Most of asm-i386/bugs.h is code which should be in a C file, so put it there. Signed-off-by: Jeremy Fitzhardinge <jeremy@xensource.com> Signed-off-by: Andi Kleen <ak@suse.de> Cc: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>
* [PATCH] i386: improve sched_clock() on i686Ingo Molnar2007-02-131-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Clean up sched_clock() on i686: it will use the TSC if available and falls back to jiffies only if the user asked for it to be disabled via notsc or the CPU calibration code didnt figure out the right cpu_khz. This generally makes the scheduler timestamps more finegrained, on all hardware. (the current scheduler is pretty resistant against asynchronous sched_clock() values on different CPUs, it will allow at most up to a jiffy of jitter.) Also simplify sched_clock()'s check for TSC availability: propagate the desire and ability to use the TSC into the tsc_disable flag, previously this flag only indicated whether the notsc option was passed. This makes the rare low-res sched_clock() codepath a single branch off a read-mostly flag. * [PATCH] paravirt: Allow selected bug checks to beRusty Russell2006-12-071-0/+4
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | Allow selected bug checks to be skipped by paravirt kernels. The two most important are the F00F workaround (which is either done by the hypervisor, or not required), and the 'hlt' instruction check, which can break under some hypervisors. * [PATCH] namespaces: utsname: use init_utsname when appropriateSerge E. Hallyn2006-10-021-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | In some places, particularly drivers and __init code, the init utsns is the appropriate one to use. This patch replaces those with a the init_utsname helper. Changes: Removed several uses of init_utsname(). Hope I picked all the right ones in net/ipv4/ipconfig.c. These are now changed to utsname() (the per-process namespace utsname) in the previous patch (2/7) [akpm@osdl.org: CIFS fix] Signed-off-by: Serge E. * [PATCH] i386: move SIMD initializationJan Beulich2006-01-061-22/+1
| | | | | | | | Move some code unrelated to any dealing with hardware bugs from i386's bugs.h to a more logical place. Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@osdl.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>
* [PATCH] i386: inline asm cleanupZachary Amsden2005-09-051-1/+4
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | i386 Inline asm cleanup. Use cr/dr accessor functions. Also, a potential bugfix. Also, some CR accessors really should be volatile. Reads from CR0 (numeric state may change in an exception handler), writes to CR4 (flipping CR4.TSD) and reads from CR2 (page fault) prevent instruction re-ordering. I did not add memory clobber to CR3 / CR4 / CR0 updates, as it was not there to begin with, and in no case should kernel memory be clobbered, except when doing a TLB flush, which already has memory clobber. I noticed that page invalidation does not have a memory clobber. I can't find a bug as a result, but there is definitely a potential for a bug here: #define __flush_tlb_single(addr) \ __asm__ __volatile__("invlpg %0": :"m" (*(char *) addr)) Signed-off-by: Zachary Amsden <zach@vmware.com> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@osdl.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>

Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
