The ep93xx backlight driver uses a single register within the
framebuffer's register space. Currently the backlight driver uses a
static IO mapping for the register since the memory cannot be
requested by both drivers.
Convert the static mapping to use ioremap so that we can remove the
dependency on mach/hardware.h. To do so, we need remove the
request_mem_region from both the backlight and framebuffer drivers,
since whichever driver is loaded second will fail with -EBUSY
otherwise.
A proper fix is still required, and a FIXME comment has been added to
both drivers.

We need to write new value if the bit mask fields of new value is not
equal to old value. It does not make sense to write new value only when
all the bit_mask bits are zero.

This patch supports regulator power control in the driver. Current ld9040
driver was controlled power on/off sequence by callback function in the
board file. But, by doing this, there's no need to register lcd power
on/off callback function in the board file.

Support for the Avionic Design Xanthos backlight device got added in
commit 3b96ea9ef8 ("backlight: Add support for the Avionic Design Xanthos

should have provided that Kconfig symbol never got submitted. It has
never been possible to even build this driver. Remove it.

The regulator support in the l4f00242t03 is very non-idiomatic. Rather
than requesting the regulators based on the device name and the supply
names used by the device the driver requires boards to pass system
specific supply names around through platform data. The driver also
conditionally requests the regulators based on this platform data, adding
unneeded conditional code to the driver.
Fix this by removing the platform data and converting to the standard
idiom, also updating all in tree users of the driver. As no datasheet
appears to be available for the LCD I'm guessing the names for the
supplies based on the existing users and I've no ability to do anything
more than compile test.
The use of regulator_set_voltage() in the driver is also problematic,
since fixed voltages are required the expectation would be that the
voltages would be fixed in the constraints set by the machines rather than
manually configured by the driver, but is less problematic.

Since backlight_types[] isn't modified, let's declare it const. That
was probably the intention of the author of commit bb7ca747f8d6
("backlight: add backlight type"), via which the "const char const *"
construct was introduced. The duplicate const was detected by sparse.

- Current implementation tests wrong value for setting
aat2870_bl->max_current.
- In the current implementation, we cannot differentiate between 2 cases:
a) if pdata->max_current is not set , or
b) pdata->max_current is set to AAT2870_CURRENT_0_45 (which is also 0).
Fix it by setting AAT2870_CURRENT_0_45 to be 1 and adjust the equation in

With the addition of a platform device mfd_cell pointer, MFD drivers
can go back to passing platform back to their sub drivers.
This allows for an mfd_cell->mfd_data removal and thus keep the
sub drivers MFD agnostic. This is mostly needed for non MFD aware
sub drivers.

blanked while another is unblanked. In order for the backlight blanking
logic to know whether to turn off the backlight for a particular
framebuffer's blanking notification, it needs to be able to check if a
given framebuffer device corresponds to the backlight.
This plumbs the check_fb hook from core backlight through the
pwm_backlight helper to allow platform code to plug in a check_fb hook.

reality more precisely and include an alias so existing users don't get

The SMI-based backlight control functionality may fail to work if the
system is running under EFI rather than BIOS. Check that the hardware
responds as expected, and exit if it doesn't.

This driver only has to deal with two different classes of hardware, but
right now it needs new DMI entries for every new machine. It turns out
that there's an ACPI device that uniquely identifies Apples with backlights,
so this patch reworks the driver into an ACPI one, identifies the hardware
by checking the PCI vendor of the root bridge and strips out all the DMI
code. It also changes the config text to clarify that it works on devices
other than Macbook Pros and GPUs other than nvidia.

There may be multiple ways of controlling the backlight on a given
machine. Allow drivers to expose the type of interface they are
providing, making it possible for userspace to make appropriate policy
decisions.
