* treewide: replace dev->trans_start update with helperFlorian Westphal2016-05-041-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Replace all trans_start updates with netif_trans_update helper. change was done via spatch: struct net_device *d; @@ - d->trans_start = jiffies + netif_trans_update(d) Compile tested only. * et131x: check return value of dma_alloc_coherentInsu Yun2016-02-171-1/+1
| | | | | | | | For error handling, dma_alloc_coherent's return value needs to be checked, not argument. Signed-off-by: Insu Yun <wuninsu@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
* phy: Add an mdio_device structureAndrew Lunn2016-01-071-15/+15
| | | | | | | | | Not all devices attached to an MDIO bus are phys. So add an mdio_device structure to represent the generic parts of an mdio device, and place this structure into the phy_device. Signed-off-by: Andrew Lunn <andrew@lunn.ch> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
* mdio: Move allocation of interrupts into coreAndrew Lunn2016-01-071-12/+1
| | | | | | | | | | Have mdio_alloc() create the array of interrupt numbers, and initialize it to POLLING. This is what most MDIO drivers want, so allowing code to be removed from the drivers. * phy: Centralise print about attached phyAndrew Lunn2016-01-071-3/+1
| | | | | | | | | | Many Ethernet drivers contain the same netdev_info() print statement about the attached phy. Move it into the phy device code. Additionally add a varargs function which can be used to append additional information. Signed-off-by: Andrew Lunn <andrew@lunn.ch> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
* phy: add phydev_name() wrapperAndrew Lunn2016-01-071-2/+2
| | | | | | | | Add a phydev_name() function, to help with moving some structure members from phy_device. Signed-off-by: Andrew Lunn <andrew@lunn.ch> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
* drivers/net: remove all references to obsolete Ethernet-HOWTOPaul Gortmaker2015-06-231-3/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This howto made sense in the 1990s when users had to manually configure ISA cards with jumpers or vendor utilities, but with the implementation of PCI it became increasingly less and less relevant, to the point where it has been well over a decade since I last updated it. And there is no value in anyone else taking over updating it either. However the references to it continue to spread as boiler plate text from one Kconfig file into the next. We are not doing end users any favours by pointing them at this old document, so lets kill it with fire, once and for all, to hopefully stop any further spread. No code is changed in this commit, just Kconfig help text. Signed-off-by: Paul Gortmaker <paul.gortmaker@windriver.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
* et131x: use msecs_to_jiffies for conversionsNicholas Mc Guire2015-02-111-2/+4
| | | | | | | | | | | This is only an API consolidation and should make things more readable. Converting milliseconds to jiffies by "val * HZ / 1000" is technically OK but msecs_to_jiffies(val) is the cleaner solution and handles all corner cases correctly. This is a minor API cleanup only. * et131x: Add PCIe gigabit ethernet driver et131x to drivers/netMark Einon2014-10-034-0/+5590
This adds the ethernet driver for Agere et131x devices to drivers/net/ethernet. The driver being added has been in the staging tree for some time, and will be removed from there in a seperate patch. This one merely disables the staging version to prevent two instances being built. Signed-off-by: Mark Einon <mark.einon@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
