* net: Add support for the KS8695 ethernet devices.Daniel Silverstone2008-12-114-0/+1792
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Implements the KS8695 ethernet device (ks8695net). This driver is only of use on the KS8695 which is an ARM9 based SoC. The documentation on this SoC is sparse and poor, with barely a register description and a rough outline of how the ethernet works, this driver was therefore written with strong reference to the Micrel supplied Linux 2.6.9 port, and to Andrew Victor's ks8695eth driver. * drivers/net: Kill now superfluous ->last_rx stores.David S. Miller2008-11-034-5/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | The generic packet receive code takes care of setting netdev->last_rx when necessary, for the sake of the bonding ARP monitor. Drivers need not do it any more. Some cases had to be skipped over because the drivers were making use of the ->last_rx value themselves. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

* dma-mapping: add the device argument to dma_mapping_error()FUJITA Tomonori2008-07-261-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Add per-device dma_mapping_ops support for CONFIG_X86_64 as POWER architecture does: This enables us to cleanly fix the Calgary IOMMU issue that some devices are not behind the IOMMU (http://lkml.org/lkml/2008/5/8/423). I think that per-device dma_mapping_ops support would be also helpful for KVM people to support PCI passthrough but Andi thinks that this makes it difficult to support the PCI passthrough (see the above thread). So I CC'ed this to KVM camp. Comments are appreciated. A pointer to dma_mapping_ops to struct dev_archdata is added. If the pointer is non NULL, DMA operations in asm/dma-mapping.h use it. If it's NULL, the system-wide dma_ops pointer is used as before. If it's useful for KVM people, I plan to implement a mechanism to register a hook called when a new pci (or dma capable) device is created (it works with hot plugging). It enables IOMMUs to set up an appropriate dma_mapping_ops per device. The major obstacle is that dma_mapping_error doesn't take a pointer to the device unlike other DMA operations. So x86 can't have dma_mapping_ops per device. Note all the POWER IOMMUs use the same dma_mapping_error function so this is not a problem for POWER but x86 IOMMUs use different dma_mapping_error functions. The first patch adds the device argument to dma_mapping_error. The patch is trivial but large since it touches lots of drivers and dma-mapping.h in all the architecture. This patch: dma_mapping_error() doesn't take a pointer to the device unlike other DMA operations. So we can't have dma_mapping_ops per device. Note that POWER already has dma_mapping_ops per device but all the POWER IOMMUs use the same dma_mapping_error function. x86 IOMMUs use device argument. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Since 43cc71eed1250755986da4c0f9898f9a635cb3bf, the platform modalias is prefixed with "platform:". Add MODULE_ALIAS() to the hotpluggable network platform drivers, to re-enable auto loading. NOTE: didn't change drivers/net/fs_enet/fs_enet-main.c "old binding" support. That looks problematic in the first place (it even uses the ancient "struct device_driver" binding scheme for platform_bus!) and I suspect it will vanish soonish when arch/powerpc rules the world. Also, drivers/net/ne.c would have needed more thought to sort out. * [NET]: Make NAPI polling independent of struct net_device objects.Stephen Hemminger2007-10-101-38/+34
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Several devices have multiple independant RX queues per net device, and some have a single interrupt doorbell for several queues. In either case, it's easier to support layouts like that if the structure representing the poll is independant from the net device itself. The signature of the ->poll() call back goes from: int foo_poll(struct net_device *dev, int *budget) to int foo_poll(struct napi_struct *napi, int budget) The caller is returned the number of RX packets processed (or the number of "NAPI credits" consumed if you want to get abstract). The callee no longer messes around bumping dev->quota, *budget, etc. because that is all handled in the caller upon return. The napi_struct is to be embedded in the device driver private data structures. Furthermore, it is the driver's responsibility to disable all NAPI instances in it's ->stop() device close handler. Since the napi_struct is privatized into the driver's private data structures, only the driver knows how to get at all of the napi_struct instances it may have per-device. With lots of help and suggestions from Rusty Russell, Roland Dreier, Michael Chan, Jeff Garzik, and Jamal Hadi Salim. Bug fixes from Thomas Graf, Roland Dreier, Peter Zijlstra, Joseph Fannin, Scott Wood, Hans J. Koch, and Michael Chan. [ Ported to current tree and all drivers converted. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | In 7d12e780e003f93433d49ce78cfedf4b4c52adc5 David Howells performed this evolution: "IRQ: Maintain regs pointer globally rather than passing to IRQ handlers" He correctly updated many of the function definitions that were using this extra regs pointer parameter but forgot to update some caller sites of those functions. The reason the modifications was not properly done on all drivers is that some drivers were rarely compiled because they are for AMIGA, or that some code sites were inside #ifdefs where the option is not set or inside #if 0. * [ARM] ecard: add helper function for setting ecard irq opsRussell King2007-05-111-3/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Rather than having every driver fiddle about setting its private IRQ operations and data, provide a helper function to contain this functionality in one place. Arrange to remove the driver-private IRQ operations and data when the device is removed from the driver, and remove the driver private code to do this. This fixes potential problems caused by drivers forgetting to remove these hooks. Signed-off-by: Russell King <rmk+kernel@arm.linux.org.uk>

* [PATCH] remove many unneeded #includes of sched.hTim Schmielau2007-02-143-3/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | After Al Viro (finally) succeeded in removing the sched.h #include in module.h recently, it makes sense again to remove other superfluous sched.h includes. There are quite a lot of files which include it but don't actually need anything defined in there. Presumably these includes were once needed for macros that used to live in sched.h, but moved to other header files in the course of cleaning it up. To ease the pain, this time I did not fiddle with any header files and only removed #includes from .c-files, which tend to cause less trouble. Compile tested against 2.6.20-rc2 and 2.6.20-rc2-mm2 (with offsets) on alpha, arm, i386, ia64, mips, powerpc, and x86_64 with allnoconfig, defconfig, allmodconfig, and allyesconfig as well as a few randconfigs on x86_64 and all configs in arch/arm/configs on arm. I also checked that no new warnings were introduced by the patch (actually, some warnings are removed that were emitted by unnecessarily included header files). * Network: convert network devices to use struct device instead of class_deviceGreg Kroah-Hartman2007-02-072-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | This lets the network core have the ability to handle suspend/resume issues, if it wants to. Thanks to Frederik Deweerdt <frederik.deweerdt@gmail.com> for the arm driver fixes. Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@suse.de>
