* [PATCH] mm: split highorder pagesNick Piggin2006-03-221-7/+3

* [PATCH] "tiny-make-id16-support-optional" fixesAdrian Bunk2006-01-101-4/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | It seems the "make UID16 support optional" patch was checked when it edited the -tiny tree some time ago, but it wasn't checked whether it still matches the current situation when it was submitted for inclusion in -mm. This patch fixes the following bugs: - ARCH_S390X does no longer exist, nowadays this has to be expressed through (S390 && 64BIT) - in five architecture specific Kconfig files the UID16 options weren't removed Additionally, it changes the fragile negative dependencies of UID16 to positive dependencies (new architectures are more likely to not require UID16 support). * | [PATCH] sched: disable preempt in idle tasksNick Piggin2005-11-091-1/+2
|/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Run idle threads with preempt disabled. Also corrected a bugs in arm26's cpu_idle (make it actually call schedule()). How did it ever work before? Might fix the CPU hotplugging hang which Nigel Cunningham noted. We think the bug hits if the idle thread is preempted after checking need_resched() and before going to sleep, then the CPU offlined. After calling stop_machine_run, the CPU eventually returns from preemption and into the idle thread and goes to sleep. The CPU will continue executing previous idle and have no chance to call play_dead. By disabling preemption until we are ready to explicitly schedule, this bug is fixed and the idle threads generally become more robust. * [PATCH] consolidate sys_ptrace()Christoph Hellwig2005-11-071-53/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The sys_ptrace boilerplate code (everything outside the big switch statement for the arch-specific requests) is shared by most architectures. This patch moves it to kernel/ptrace.c and leaves the arch-specific code as arch_ptrace. Some architectures have a too different ptrace so we have to exclude them. They continue to keep their implementations. For sh64 I had to add a sh64_ptrace wrapper because it does some initialization on the first call. For um I removed an ifdefed SUBARCH_PTRACE_SPECIAL block, but SUBARCH_PTRACE_SPECIAL isn't defined anywhere in the tree. * | [PATCH] fix missing includesTim Schmielau2005-10-301-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | I recently picked up my older work to remove unnecessary #includes of sched.h, starting from a patch by Dave Jones to not include sched.h from module.h. This reduces the number of indirect includes of sched.h by ~300. Another ~400 pointless direct includes can be removed after this disentangling (patch to follow later). However, quite a few indirect includes need to be fixed up for this. In order to feed the patches through -mm with as little disturbance as possible, I've split out the fixes I accumulated up to now (complete for i386 and x86_64, more archs to follow later) and post them before the real patch. This way this large part of the patch is kept simple with only adding #includes, and all hunks are independent of each other. So if any hunk rejects or gets in the way of other patches, just drop it. My scripts will pick it up again in the next round. * [LIB]: Consolidate _atomic_dec_and_lock()David S. Miller2005-09-141-4/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | Several implementations were essentialy a common piece of C code using the cmpxchg() macro. Put the implementation in one spot that everyone can share, and convert sparc64 over to using this. Alpha is the lone arch-specific implementation, which codes up a special fast path for the common case in order to avoid GP reloading which a pure C version would require. Signed-off-by: David S. * kbuild: rename prepare to archprepare to fix dependency chainSam Ravnborg2005-09-111-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | When introducing the generic asm-offsets.h support the dependency chain for the prepare targets was changed. All build scripts expecting include/asm/asm-offsets.h to be made when using the prepare target would broke. With the limited number of prepare targets left in arch Makefiles the trivial solution was to introduce a new arch specific target: archprepare The dependency chain looks like this now: prepare | +--> prepare0 | +--> archprepare | +--> scripts_basic +--> prepare1 | +---> prepare2 | +--> prepare3 So prepare 3 is processed before prepare2 etc. This guaantees that the asm symlink, version.h, scripts_basic are all updated before archprepare is processed. prepare0 which build the asm-offsets.h file will need the actions performed by archprepare. The head target is now named prepare, because users scripts will most likely use that target, but prepare-all has been kept for compatibility. Updated Documentation/kbuild/makefiles.txt. * [PATCH] convert signal handling of NODEFER to act like other Unix boxes.Steven Rostedt2005-08-291-6/+5
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | It has been reported that the way Linux handles NODEFER for signals is not consistent with the way other Unix boxes handle it. I've written a program to test the behavior of how this flag affects signals and had several reports from people who ran this on various Unix boxes, confirming that Linux seems to be unique on the way this is handled. The way NODEFER affects signals on other Unix boxes is as follows: 1) If NODEFER is set, other signals in sa_mask are still blocked. 2) If NODEFER is set and the signal is in sa_mask, then the signal is still blocked. (Note: this is the behavior of all tested but Linux _and_ NetBSD 2.0 *). The way NODEFER affects signals on Linux: 1) If NODEFER is set, other signals are _not_ blocked regardless of sa_mask (Even NetBSD doesn't do this). 2) If NODEFER is set and the signal is in sa_mask, then the signal being handled is not blocked. The patch converts signal handling in all current Linux architectures to the way most Unix boxes work. Unix boxes that were tested: DU4, AIX 5.2, Irix 6.5, NetBSD 2.0, SFU 3.5 on WinXP, AIX 5.3, Mac OSX, and of course Linux 2.6.13-rcX. * NetBSD was the only other Unix to behave like Linux on point #2. The main concern was brought up by point #1 which even NetBSD isn't like Linux. So with this patch, we leave NetBSD as the lonely one that behaves differently here with #2. * [NET]: add a top-level Networking menu to *configSam Ravnborg2005-07-111-0/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Create a new top-level menu named "Networking" thus moving net related options and protocol selection way from the drivers menu and up on the top-level where they belong. To implement this all architectures has to source "net/Kconfig" before drivers/*/Kconfig in their Kconfig file. This change has been implemented for all architectures. Device drivers for ordinary NIC's are still to be found in the Device Drivers section, but Bluetooth, IrDA and ax25 are located with their corresponding menu entries under the new networking menu item. * [PATCH] xtensa: remove old syscallsArnd Bergmann2005-07-072-179/+30
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | xtensa is now in -rc1, with the obsolete syscalls still in there, so I guess this about the last chance to correct the ABI. Applying the patch obviously breaks all sorts of user space binaries and probably also requires the appropriate changes to be made to libc. On the other hand, if a decision is made to keep the broken interface, it should at least be a conscious one instead of an oversight.
