* i386 bigsmp: section mismatch fixesWilliam Lee Irwin III2007-05-231-3/+3
| | | | | | | | | | | | WARNING: arch/i386/mach-generic/built-in.o(.data+0xc4): Section mismatch: reference to .init.text: (between 'apic_bigsmp' and 'cpu.4905') This appears to be resolvable by removing all the __init and __initdata qualifiers from arch/i386/mach-generic/bigsmp.c Signed-off-by: William Irwin <bill.irwin@oracle.com> Cc: Andi Kleen <ak@suse.de> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@linux-foundation.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>
* [PATCH] i386: Add __init to probe_bigsmpPrarit Bhargava2007-05-021-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | Add __init to probe_bigsmp. All callers are __init and data being examined is __initdata. Resolves MODPOST warning similar to: WARNING: vmlinux - Section mismatch: reference to .init.data: from .text between 'probe_bigsmp' (at offset 0xc0401e56) and 'init_apic_ldr' Signed-off-by: Prarit Bhargava <prarit@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Andi Kleen <ak@suse.de>
* [PATCH] i386: make apic probe function non-initVivek Goyal2007-01-111-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | o struct genapic contains pointer to probe() function which is of type __init. Hence MODPOST generates warning if kernel is compiled with CONFIG_RELOCATABLE=y for i386. WARNING: vmlinux - Section mismatch: reference to .init.text: from .data between 'apic_summit' (at offset 0xc058b504) and 'apic_bigsmp' WARNING: vmlinux - Section mismatch: reference to .init.text: from .data between 'apic_bigsmp' (at offset 0xc058b5a4) and 'cpu.4471' WARNING: vmlinux - Section mismatch: reference to .init.text: from .data between 'apic_es7000' (at offset 0xc058b644) and 'apic_default' WARNING: vmlinux - Section mismatch: reference to .init.text: from .data between 'apic_default' (at offset 0xc058b6e4) and 'interrupt' o One of the possible options is to put special case check in MODPOST to not emit warnings for this case but I think it is not a very good option in terms of maintenance. o Another option is to make probe() function non __init. Anyway this function is really small so not freeing this memory after init is not a big deal. Secondly, from a programming perspective, probably genapic should not provide pointers to functions which have been freed as genapic is non __init and is used even after initialization is complete. * [PATCH] i386: Allow to use GENERICARCH for UP kernelsAndi Kleen2006-09-261-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | There are some machines around (large xSeries or Unisys ES7000) that need physical IO-APIC destination mode to access all of their IO devices. This currently doesn't work in UP kernels as used in distribution installers. This patch allows to compile even UP kernels as GENERICARCH which allows to use physical or clustered APIC mode. * [PATCH] x86: sutomatically enable bigsmp when we have more than 8 CPUsVenkatesh Pallipadi2005-09-051-1/+4
| | | | | | | | | | | i386 generic subarchitecture requires explicit dmi strings or command line to enable bigsmp mode. The patch below removes that restriction, and uses bigsmp as soon as it finds more than 8 logical CPUs, Intel processors and xAPIC support. Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
