* Driver core: device_attribute parameters can often be const*Phil Carmody2009-12-233-8/+10
| | | | | | | | | | | Most device_attributes are const, and are begging to be put in a ro section. However, the create and remove file interfaces were failing to propagate the const promise which the only functions they call offer. * Doc/stable rules: add new cherry-pick logicSebastian Andrzej Siewior2009-12-231-2/+22
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | - it is possible to submit patches for the stable queue without sending them directly stable@kernel.org. If the tag (Cc: stable@kernel.org) is available in the sign-off area than hpa's script will filter them into the stable mailbox once it hits Linus' tree. - Patches which require others to be applied first can be also specified. This was discussued in http://lkml.org/lkml/2009/11/9/474 Signed-off-by: Sebastian Andrzej Siewior <sebastian@breakpoint.cc> Cc: Brandon Philips <brandon@ifup.org> Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@suse.de>
* vfs: get_sb_single() - do not pass options twiceKay Sievers2009-12-231-1/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Filesystem code usually destroys the option buffer while parsing it. This leads to errors when the same buffer is passed twice. In case we fill a new superblock do not call remount. This is needed to quite a warning that the debugfs code causes every boot. * devtmpfs: Convert dirlock to a mutexThomas Gleixner2009-12-231-7/+5
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | devtmpfs has a rw_lock dirlock which serializes delete_path and create_path. This code was obviously never tested with the usual set of debugging facilities enabled. In the dirlock held sections the code calls: - vfs functions which take mutexes - kmalloc(, GFP_KERNEL) In both code pathes the might sleep warning triggers and spams dmesg. Convert the rw_lock to a mutex. There is no reason why this needs to be a rwlock. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This fixes LVDS on some mac laptops without a panel edid. v2 - Set proper mode type flags v3 - Note that this is not neceesarily the exact panel mode, but an approximation based on the cvt formula. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Previously, if there was no firmware available, the DRM would just disable channel creation from userspace, but still use a single channel for its own purposes. With a bit of care it should actually be possible to do this, due to the DRM's very limited use of the engine. It currently doesn't work correctly however, resulting in corrupted fbcon and hangs on a number of cards. Signed-off-by: Ben Skeggs <bskeggs@redhat.com>

There's notes in nv40_grctx.c explaining most of the things we don't implement. If we discover if/why any of it is required further down the track, we'll handle it then. The PGRAPH state generated for each chipset should match what NVIDIA do almost exactly (there's a couple of exceptions). If someone has a lot of time on their hands, they could figure out the mapping of object/method to PGRAPH register and demagic the initial state a little, it's not terribly important however. At time of commit, confirmed to be working at least well enough for accelerated X (and where tested, for 3D apps) on NV40, NV43, NV44, NV46, NV49, NV4A, NV4B and NV4E. A module option has been added to force the use of external firmware blobs if it becomes required. Signed-off-by: Ben Skeggs <bskeggs@redhat.com>

Moving the lock into the drm_ioctl function itself makes sure we blame the right subsystem and it gets us one step closer to eliminating the locked version of fops->ioctl. Since drm_ioctl does not require the lock itself, we only need to hold it while calling the specific handler. The 32 bit conversion handlers do not interact with any other code, so they don't need the BKL here either and can just call drm_ioctl. As a bonus, this cleans up all the other users of drm_ioctl which now no longer have to find the inode or call lock_kernel. [airlied: squashed the non-driver bits of the second patch in here, this provides the flag for drivers to use to select unlocked ioctls - but doesn't modify any drivers]. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The power management of some devices is handled through device types and device classes rather than through bus types. Since these devices may also benefit from using the run-time power management core, extend it so that the device type and device class run-time PM callbacks can be taken into consideration by it if the bus type callback is not defined. Update the run-time PM core documentation to reflect this change. Signed-off-by: Rafael J. Wysocki <rjw@sisk.pl>
