* Add board MAINTAINERS filesMasahiro Yamada2014-07-301-0/+7
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | We have switched to Kconfig and the boards.cfg file is going to be removed. We have to retrieve the board status and maintainers information from it. The MAINTAINERS format as in Linux Kernel would be nice because we can crib the scripts/get_maintainer.pl script. After some discussion, we chose to put a MAINTAINERS file under each board directory, not the top-level one because we want to collect relevant information for a board into a single place. TODO: Modify get_maintainer.pl to scan multiple MAINTAINERS files. * kconfig: add board Kconfig and defconfig filesMasahiro Yamada2014-07-301-0/+15
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This commit adds: - arch/${ARCH}/Kconfig provide a menu to select target boards - board/${VENDOR}/${BOARD}/Kconfig or board/${BOARD}/Kconfig set CONFIG macros to the appropriate values for each board - configs/${TARGET_BOARD}_defconfig default setting of each board (This commit was automatically generated by a conversion script based on boards.cfg) In Linux Kernel, defconfig files are located under arch/${ARCH}/configs/ directory. It works in Linux Kernel since ARCH is always given from the command line for cross compile. But in U-Boot, ARCH is not given from the command line. Which means we cannot know ARCH until the board configuration is done. That is why all the "*_defconfig" files should be gathered into a single directory ./configs/. * SPDX: fix IBM-pibs license identifierWolfgang Denk2013-09-201-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | The SPDX License List version 1.19 now contains an official entry for the IBM-pibs license. However, instead of our suggestion "ibm-pibs", the SPDX License List uses "IBM-pibs", with the following rationale: "The reason being that all other SPDX License List short identifiers tend towards using capital letters unless spelling a word. I'd prefer to be consistent to this end". Change the license IDs to use the official name. Signed-off-by: Wolfgang Denk <wd@denx.de>
* SPDX-License-Identifier: convert PIBS licensed filesWolfgang Denk2013-08-191-23/+3
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This commit adapts the files that were derived from PIBS (PowerPC Initialization and Boot Software) codeto using SPDX License Identifiers. So far, SPDX has not assigned an official License ID for the PIBS license yet, so this should be considered preliminary. Note that the following files contained incorrect license information: arch/powerpc/cpu/ppc4xx/4xx_uart.c arch/powerpc/cpu/ppc4xx/start.S arch/powerpc/include/asm/ppc440.h These files included, in addition to the GPL-2.0 / ibm-pibs dual license as inherited from PIBS, a GPL-2.0+ license header which was obviously incorrect. * Consolidate bool typeYork Sun2013-04-011-3/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | 'bool' is defined in random places. This patch consolidates them into a single header file include/linux/types.h, using stdbool.h introduced in C99. All other #define, typedef and enum are removed. They are all consistent with true = 1, false = 0. Replace FALSE, False with false. Replace TRUE, True with true. Skip *.py, *.php, lib/* files. * punt unused clean/distclean targetsMike Frysinger2011-10-151-6/+0
| | | | | | | | | | The top level Makefile does not do any recursion into subdirs when cleaning, so these clean/distclean targets in random arch/board dirs never get used. Punt them all. MAKEALL didn't report any errors related to this that I could see. Signed-off-by: Mike Frysinger <vapier@gentoo.org>
* Switch from archive libraries to partial linkingSebastien Carlier2010-11-171-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Before this commit, weak symbols were not overridden by non-weak symbols found in archive libraries when linking with recent versions of binutils. As stated in the System V ABI, "the link editor does not extract archive members to resolve undefined weak symbols". This commit changes all Makefiles to use partial linking (ld -r) instead of creating library archives, which forces all symbols to participate in linking, allowing non-weak symbols to override weak symbols as intended. This approach is also used by Linux, from which the gmake function cmd_link_o_target (defined in config.mk and used in all Makefiles) is inspired. The name of each former library archive is preserved except for extensions which change from ".a" to ".o". This commit updates references accordingly where needed, in particular in some linker scripts. This commit reveals board configurations that exclude some features but include source files that depend these disabled features in the build, resulting in undefined symbols. Known such cases include: - disabling CMD_NET but not CMD_NFS; - enabling CONFIG_OF_LIBFDT but not CONFIG_QE. Signed-off-by: Sebastien Carlier <sebastien.carlier@gmail.com>
* Makefile: move all Power Architecture boards into boards.cfgWolfgang Denk2010-10-181-29/+0
| | | | | | | | | | Clean up Makefile, and drop a lot of the config.mk files on the way. We now also automatically pick all boards that are listed in boards.cfg (and with all configurations), so we can drop the redundant entries from MAKEALL to avoid building these twice. * Rename TEXT_BASE into CONFIG_SYS_TEXT_BASEWolfgang Denk2010-10-181-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | The change is currently needed to be able to remove the board configuration scripting from the top level Makefile and replace it by a simple, table driven script. Moving this configuration setting into the "CONFIG_*" name space is also desirable because it is needed if we ever should move forward to a Kconfig driven configuration system. * ppc4xx: Big header cleanup part 2, mostly PPC405 relatedStefan Roese2010-09-232-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This cleanup is done by creating header files for all SoC versions and moving the SoC specific defines into these special headers. This way the common header ppc405.h and ppc440.h can be cleaned up finally. As a part from this cleanup, the GPIO definitions for PPC405EP are corrected. The high and low parts of the registers (for example CONFIG_SYS_GPIO0_OSRL vs. CONFIG_SYS_GPIO0_OSRH) have been defined in the wrong order. This patch now fixes this issue by switching these xxxH and xxxL values. This brings the GPIO 405EP port in sync with all other PPC4xx ports. Signed-off-by: Stefan Roese <sr@denx.de>
* ppc4xx: Move ppc4xx headers to powerpc include directoryStefan Roese2010-09-232-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | This patch moves some ppc4xx related headers from the common include directory (include/) to the powerpc specific one (arch/powerpc/include/asm/). This way to common include directory is not so cluttered with files. Signed-off-by: Stefan Roese <sr@denx.de>
* Rename getenv_r() into getenv_f()Wolfgang Denk2010-08-041-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | While running from flash, i. e. before relocation, we have only a limited C runtime environment without writable data segment. In this phase, some configurations (for example with environment in EEPROM) must not use the normal getenv(), but a special function. This function had been called getenv_r(), with the idea that the "_r" suffix would mean the same as in the _r_eentrant versions of some of the C library functions (for example getdate vs. getdate_r, getgrent vs. getgrent_r, etc.). Unfortunately this was a misleading name, as in U-Boot the "_r" generally means "running from RAM", i. e. _after_ relocation. To avoid confusion, rename into getenv_f() [as "running from flash"] Signed-off-by: Wolfgang Denk <wd@denx.de> Acked-by: Detlev Zundel <dzu@denx.de>
* Make sure that argv[] argument pointers are not modified.Wolfgang Denk2010-07-041-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The hush shell dynamically allocates (and re-allocates) memory for the argument strings in the "char *argv[]" argument vector passed to commands. Any code that modifies these pointers will cause serious corruption of the malloc data structures and crash U-Boot, so make sure the compiler can check that no such modifications are being done by changing the code into "char * const argv[]". This modification is the result of debugging a strange crash caused after adding a new command, which used the following argument processing code which has been working perfectly fine in all Unix systems since version 6 - but not so in U-Boot: int main (int argc, char **argv) { while (--argc > 0 && **++argv == '-') { /* ====> */ while (*++*argv) { switch (**argv) { case 'd': debug++; break; ... default: usage (); } } } ... } The line marked "====>" will corrupt the malloc data structures and usually cause U-Boot to crash when the next command gets executed by the shell. With the modification, the compiler will prevent this with an error: increment of read-only location '*argv' N.B.: The code above can be trivially rewritten like this: while (--argc > 0 && **++argv == '-') { char *arg = *argv; while (*++arg) { switch (*arg) { ... * POST: Remove duplicated post_hotkey_pressed() functionsStefan Roese2009-12-071-11/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch introduces a weak default function for post_hotkey_pressed(), returning 0, for boards without hotkey support. The long-running tests won't be started on those boards. This default function was implemented in many board directories. By implementing this weak default we can remove all those duplicate versions. Boards with hotkey support, can override this weak default function by defining one in their board specific code. Signed-off-by: Stefan Roese <sr@denx.de>
* ppc4xx: Remove board specific linker scripts from most PPC4xx boardsStefan Roese2009-11-021-154/+0

* ppc4xx: Fix problems in some ppc4xx board MakefilesStefan Roese2009-11-021-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | Some 4xx Makefiles didn't add $(SOBJ) to their board library. This was no till now problem, since those boards included this object (init.o most of the time) directly from their linker scripts. This patch clean this up, so that all objects are now collected in the board library. This is in preparation for the upcoming PPC4xx linker script consolidation. * ppc4xx: Big cleanup of PPC4xx definesStefan Roese2009-09-112-103/+103
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch cleans up multiple issues of the 4xx register (mostly DCR, SDR, CPR, etc) definitions: - Change lower case defines to upper case (plb4_acr -> PLB4_ACR) - Change the defines to better match the names from the user's manuals (e.g. cprpllc -> CPR0_PLLC) - Removal of some unused defines Please test this patch intensive on your PPC4xx platform. Even though I tried not to break anything and tested successfully on multiple 4xx AMCC platforms, testing on custom platforms is recommended. Signed-off-by: Stefan Roese <sr@denx.de>
* Dual-license IBM code contributionsJosh Boyer2009-08-091-0/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | It was brought to our attention that U-Boot contains code derived from the IBM OpenBIOS source code originally provided with some of the older PowerPC 4xx development boards. As a result, the original license of this code has been carried in the various files for a number of years in the U-Boot project. IBM is dual-licensing the IBM code contributions already present in U-Boot under either the terms of the GNU General Public License version 2, or the original code license already present. * General help message cleanupWolfgang Denk2009-06-121-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Many of the help messages were not really helpful; for example, many commands that take no arguments would not print a correct synopsis line, but "No additional help available." which is not exactly wrong, but not helpful either. Commit ``Make "usage" messages more helpful.'' changed this partially. But it also became clear that lots of "Usage" and "Help" messages (fields "usage" and "help" in struct cmd_tbl_s respective) were actually redundant. This patch cleans this up - for example: Before: => help dtt dtt - Digital Thermometer and Thermostat Usage: dtt - Read temperature from digital thermometer and thermostat. After: => help dtt dtt - Read temperature from Digital Thermometer and Thermostat Usage: dtt Signed-off-by: Wolfgang Denk <wd@denx.de>
* Fix all linker script to handle all rodata sectionsTrent Piepho2009-03-201-3/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | A recent gcc added a new unaligned rodata section called '.rodata.str1.1', which needs to be added the the linker script. Instead of just adding this one section, we use a wildcard ".rodata*" to get all rodata linker section gcc has now and might add in the future. However, '*(.rodata*)' by itself will result in sub-optimal section ordering. The sections will be sorted by object file, which causes extra padding between the unaligned rodata.str.1.1 of one object file and the aligned rodata of the next object file. This is easy to fix by using the SORT_BY_ALIGNMENT command. This patch has not be tested one most of the boards modified. Some boards have a linker script that looks something like this: *(.text) . = ALIGN(16); *(.rodata) *(.rodata.str1.4) *(.eh_frame) I change this to: *(.text) . = ALIGN(16); *(.eh_frame) *(SORT_BY_ALIGNMENT(SORT_BY_NAME(.rodata*))) This means the start of rodata will no longer be 16 bytes aligned. However, the boundary between text and rodata/eh_frame is still aligned to 16 bytes, which is what I think the real purpose of the ALIGN call is. Signed-off-by: Trent Piepho <xyzzy@speakeasy.org>

* Change initdram() return type to phys_size_tBecky Bruce2008-06-121-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch changes the return type of initdram() from long int to phys_size_t. This is required for a couple of reasons: long int limits the amount of dram to 2GB, and u-boot in general is moving over to phys_size_t to represent the size of physical memory. phys_size_t is defined as an unsigned long on almost all current platforms. This patch *only* changes the return type of the initdram function (in include/common.h, as well as in each board's implementation of initdram). It does not actually modify the code inside the function on any of the platforms; platforms which wish to support more than 2GB of DRAM will need to modify their initdram() function code. Build tested with MAKEALL for ppc, arm, mips, mips-el. Booted on powerpc MPC8641HPCN. Signed-off-by: Becky Bruce <becky.bruce@freescale.com>
* ppc4xx: Remove superfluous dram_init() call or replace it by initdram()Stefan Roese2008-06-031-13/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Historically the 405 U-Boot port had a dram_init() call in early init stage. This function was still called from start.S and most of the time coded in assembler. This is not needed anymore (since a long time) and boards should implement the common initdram() function in C instead. This patch now removed the dram_init() call from start.S and removes the empty implementations that are scattered through most of the 405 board ports. Some older board ports really implement this dram_init() though. These are: csb272 csb472 ERIC EXBITGEN W7OLMC W7OLMG I changed those boards to call this assembler dram_init() function now from their board specific initdram() instead. This *should* work, but please test again on those platforms. And it is perhaps a good idea that those boards use some common 405 SDRAM initialization code from cpu/ppc4xx at some time. So further patches welcome here. Signed-off-by: Stefan Roese <sr@denx.de>

* Fix linker scripts: add NOLOAD atribute to .bss/.sbss sectionsWolfgang Denk2008-01-121-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | With recent toolchain versions, some boards would not build because or errors like this one (here for ocotea board when building with ELDK 4.2 beta): ppc_4xx-ld: section .bootpg [fffff000 -> fffff23b] overlaps section .bss [fffee900 -> fffff8ab] For many boards, the .bss section is big enough that it wraps around at the end of the address space (0xFFFFFFFF), so the problem will not be visible unless you use a 64 bit tool chain for development. On some boards however, changes to the code size (due to different optimizations) we bail out with section overlaps like above. The fix is to add the NOLOAD attribute to the .bss and .sbss sections, telling the linker that .bss does not consume any space in the image. Signed-off-by: Wolfgang Denk <wd@denx.de>

| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Modifications are based on the linux kernel approach and support two use cases: 1) Add O= to the make command line 'make O=/tmp/build all' 2) Set environement variable BUILD_DIR to point to the desired location 'export BUILD_DIR=/tmp/build' 'make' The second approach can also be used with a MAKEALL script 'export BUILD_DIR=/tmp/build' './MAKEALL' Command line 'O=' setting overrides BUILD_DIR environent variable. When none of the above methods is used the local build is performed and the object files are placed in the source directory.
