* block: rename bio bi_rw to bi_opfJens Axboe2016-08-071-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | Since commit 63a4cc24867d, bio->bi_rw contains flags in the lower portion and the op code in the higher portions. This means that old code that relies on manually setting bi_rw is most likely going to be broken. Instead of letting that brokeness linger, rename the member, to force old and out-of-tree code to break at compile time instead of at runtime. No intended functional changes in this commit. * block: get rid of bio_rw and READAChristoph Hellwig2016-07-201-6/+9
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | These two are confusing leftover of the old world order, combining values of the REQ_OP_ and REQ_ namespaces. For callers that don't special case we mostly just replace bi_rw with bio_data_dir or op_is_write, except for the few cases where a switch over the REQ_OP_ values makes more sense. Any check for READA is replaced with an explicit check for REQ_RAHEAD. Also remove the READA alias for REQ_RAHEAD. * block: add a bi_error field to struct bioChristoph Hellwig2015-07-291-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Currently we have two different ways to signal an I/O error on a BIO: (1) by clearing the BIO_UPTODATE flag (2) by returning a Linux errno value to the bi_end_io callback The first one has the drawback of only communicating a single possible error (-EIO), and the second one has the drawback of not beeing persistent when bios are queued up, and are not passed along from child to parent bio in the ever more popular chaining scenario. Having both mechanisms available has the additional drawback of utterly confusing driver authors and introducing bugs where various I/O submitters only deal with one of them, and the others have to add boilerplate code to deal with both kinds of error returns. So add a new bi_error field to store an errno value directly in struct bio and remove the existing mechanisms to clean all this up. * dm: rename request variables to biosAlasdair G Kergon2013-03-011-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | Use 'bio' in the name of variables and functions that deal with bios rather than 'request' to avoid confusion with the normal block layer use of 'request'. No functional changes. Signed-off-by: Alasdair G Kergon <agk@redhat.com>
* dm: remove map_infoMikulas Patocka2012-12-211-3/+2
| | | | | | | | This patch removes map_info from bio-based device mapper targets. map_info is still used for request-based targets. Signed-off-by: Mikulas Patocka <mpatocka@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Alasdair G Kergon <agk@redhat.com>

| | | | | | | | Have the zero target silently drop a discard rather than fail the request with -EOPNOTSUPP. Signed-off-by: Mike Snitzer <snitzer@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Alasdair G Kergon <agk@redhat.com>
* dm: consolidate target deregistration error handlingMikulas Patocka2009-01-061-4/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Change dm_unregister_target to return void and use BUG() for error reporting. dm_unregister_target can only fail because of programming bug in the target driver. It can't fail because of user's behavior or disk errors. This patch changes unregister_target to return void and use BUG if someone tries to unregister non-registered target or unregister target that is in use. This patch removes code duplication (testing of error codes in all dm targets) and reports bugs in just one place, in dm_unregister_target. In some target drivers, these return codes were ignored, which could lead to a situation where bugs could be missed. * dm: remove dm header from targetsMikulas Patocka2008-10-211-1/+1
| | | | | | | | Change #include "dm.h" to #include <linux/device-mapper.h> in all targets. Targets should not need direct access to internal DM structures. Signed-off-by: Mikulas Patocka <mpatocka@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Alasdair G Kergon <agk@redhat.com>
* Drop 'size' argument from bio_endio and bi_end_ioNeilBrown2007-10-101-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | As bi_end_io is only called once when the reqeust is complete, the 'size' argument is now redundant. Remove it. Now there is no need for bio_endio to subtract the size completed from bi_size. So don't do that either. While we are at it, change bi_end_io to return void. Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
