This feature will allow consumers to lock in a certain rate on the output of a clk so that things like audio playback don't hear pops when the clk frequency changes due to shared parent clks changing rates. Currently the clk API doesn't guarantee the rate of a clk stays at the rate you request after clk_set_rate() is called, so this new API will allow drivers to express that requirement. Beyond this, the core got some debugfs pretty printing patches and a couple minor non-critical fixes. Looking outside of the core framework diff we have some new driver additions and the removal of a legacy TI clk driver. Both of these hit high in the dirstat. Also, the removal of the asm-generic/clkdev.h file causes small one-liners in all the architecture Kbuild files. Overall, the driver diff seems to be the normal stuff that comes all the time to fix little problems here and there and to support new hardware. The value "syslog" allows to see the syslog-like "<log level>[timestamp] text" format. This feature was requested by people doing regression tests, for example, 0day robot. They want to have both filtered and full logs at hands. - Reduce the risk of softlockup: Pass the console owner in a busy loop. This is a new approach to the old problem. It was first proposed by Steven Rostedt on Kernel Summit 2017. It marks a context in which the console_lock owner calls console drivers and could not sleep. On the other side, printk() callers could detect this state and use a busy wait instead of a simple console_trylock(). Finally, the console_lock owner checks if there is a busy waiter at the end of the special context and eventually passes the console_lock to the waiter. The hand-off works surprisingly well and helps in many situations. Well, there is still a possibility of the softlockup, for example, when the flood of messages stops and the last owner still has too much to flush. There is increasing number of people having problems with printk-related softlockups. We might eventually need to get better solution. Anyway, this looks like a good start and promising direction. - Do not allow to schedule in console_unlock() called from printk(): This reverts an older controversial commit. The reschedule helped to avoid softlockups. But it also slowed down the console output. This patch is obsoleted by the new console waiter logic described above. In fact, the reschedule made the hand-off less effective. - Deprecate "%pf" and "%pF" format specifier: It was needed on ia64, ppc64 and parisc64 to dereference function descriptors and show the real function address. It is done transparently by "%ps" and "pS" format specifier now. Sergey Senozhatsky found that all the function descriptors were in a special elf section and could be easily detected. - Remove printk_symbol() API: It has been obsoleted by "%pS" format specifier, and this change helped to remove few continuous lines and a less intuitive old API. - Remove redundant memsets: Sergey removed unnecessary memset when processing printk.devkmsg command line option. * 'for-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/pmladek/printk: (27 commits) printk: drop redundant devkmsg_log_str memsets printk: Never set console_may_schedule in console_trylock() printk: Hide console waiter logic into helpers printk: Add console owner and waiter logic to load balance console writes kallsyms: remove print_symbol() function checkpatch: add pF/pf deprecation warning symbol lookup: introduce dereference_symbol_descriptor() parisc64: Add .opd based function descriptor dereference powerpc64: Add .opd based function descriptor dereference ia64: Add .opd based function descriptor dereference sections: split dereference_function_descriptor() openrisc: Fix conflicting types for _exext and _stext lib: do not use print_symbol() irq debug: do not use print_symbol() sysfs: do not use print_symbol() drivers: do not use print_symbol() x86: do not use print_symbol() unicore32: do not use print_symbol() sh: do not use print_symbol() mn10300: do not use print_symbol() ...
| * | powerpc64: Add .opd based function descriptor dereferenceSergey Senozhatsky2018-01-094-0/+31
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | We are moving towards separate kernel and module function descriptor dereference callbacks. This patch enables it for powerpc64. For pointers that belong to the kernel - Added __start_opd and __end_opd pointers, to track the kernel .opd section address range; - Added dereference_kernel_function_descriptor(). Now we will dereference only function pointers that are within [__start_opd, __end_opd); For pointers that belong to a module - Added dereference_module_function_descriptor() to handle module function descriptor dereference. Now we will dereference only pointers that are within [module->opd.start, module->opd.end). Also, there is no need to depend on MEMORY_HOTPLUG, as initialization code does not really use hotplug memory functionality. So, we can remove this requirement as well. This patch allows to use deferred struct page initialization on all platforms with memblock allocator. Tested on x86, arm64, and sparc. Also, verified that code compiles on PPC with CONFIG_MEMORY_HOTPLUG disabled. The main changes are: 1) A number of extensions to tcp-bpf, from Lawrence. - direct R or R/W access to many tcp_sock fields via bpf_sock_ops - passing up to 3 arguments to bpf_sock_ops functions - tcp_sock field bpf_sock_ops_cb_flags for controlling callbacks - optionally calling bpf_sock_ops program when RTO fires - optionally calling bpf_sock_ops program when packet is retransmitted - optionally calling bpf_sock_ops program when TCP state changes - access to tclass and sk_txhash - new selftest 2) div/mod exception handling, from Daniel. One of the ugly leftovers from the early eBPF days is that div/mod operations based on registers have a hard-coded src_reg == 0 test in the interpreter as well as in JIT code generators that would return from the BPF program with exit code 0. This was basically adopted from cBPF interpreter for historical reasons. There are multiple reasons why this is very suboptimal and prone to bugs. To name one: the return code mapping for such abnormal program exit of 0 does not always match with a suitable program type's exit code mapping. For example, '0' in tc means action 'ok' where the packet gets passed further up the stack, which is just undesirable for such cases (e.g. when implementing policy) and also does not match with other program types. After considering _four_ different ways to address the problem, we adapt the same behavior as on some major archs like ARMv8: X div 0 results in 0, and X mod 0 results in X. aarch64 and aarch32 ISA do not generate any traps or otherwise aborts of program execution for unsigned divides. Given the options, it seems the most suitable from all of them, also since major archs have similar schemes in place. Given this is all in the realm of undefined behavior, we still have the option to adapt if deemed necessary. 3) sockmap sample refactoring, from John. 4) lpm map get_next_key fixes, from Yonghong. 5) test cleanups, from Alexei and Prashant. ==================== Signed-off-by: David S. The main changes are: 1) Allow arbitrary function calls from one BPF function to another BPF function. As of today when writing BPF programs, __always_inline had to be used in the BPF C programs for all functions, unnecessarily causing LLVM to inflate code size. Handle this more naturally with support for BPF to BPF calls such that this __always_inline restriction can be overcome. As a result, it allows for better optimized code and finally enables to introduce core BPF libraries in the future that can be reused out of different projects. x86 and arm64 JIT support was added as well, from Alexei. 2) Add infrastructure for tagging functions as error injectable and allow for BPF to return arbitrary error values when BPF is attached via kprobes on those. This way of injecting errors generically eases testing and debugging without having to recompile or restart the kernel. Tags for opting-in for this facility are added with BPF_ALLOW_ERROR_INJECTION(), from Josef. 3) For BPF offload via nfp JIT, add support for bpf_xdp_adjust_head() helper call for XDP programs. First part of this work adds handling of BPF capabilities included in the firmware, and the later patches add support to the nfp verifier part and JIT as well as some small optimizations, from Jakub. 4) The bpftool now also gets support for basic cgroup BPF operations such as attaching, detaching and listing current BPF programs. As a requirement for the attach part, bpftool can now also load object files through 'bpftool prog load'. This reuses libbpf which we have in the kernel tree as well. bpftool-cgroup man page is added along with it, from Roman. 5) Back then commit e87c6bc3852b ("bpf: permit multiple bpf attachments for a single perf event") added support for attaching multiple BPF programs to a single perf event. Given they are configured through perf's ioctl() interface, the interface has been extended with a PERF_EVENT_IOC_QUERY_BPF command in this work in order to return an array of one or multiple BPF prog ids that are currently attached, from Yonghong. 6) Various minor fixes and cleanups to the bpftool's Makefile as well as a new 'uninstall' and 'doc-uninstall' target for removing bpftool itself or prior installed documentation related to it, from Quentin. 7) Add CONFIG_CGROUP_BPF=y to the BPF kernel selftest config file which is required for the test_dev_cgroup test case to run, from Naresh. 8) Fix reporting of XDP prog_flags for nfp driver, from Jakub. 9) Fix libbpf's exit code from the Makefile when libelf was not found in the system, also from Jakub. ==================== Signed-off-by: David S. To do this we need a reliable way to determine whether a given hash algorithm is keyed or not. AF_ALG currently does this by checking for the presence of a ->setkey() method. However, this is actually slightly broken because the CRC-32 algorithms implement ->setkey() but can also be used without a key. (The CRC-32 "key" is not actually a cryptographic key but rather represents the initial state. If not overridden, then a default initial state is used.) Prepare to fix this by introducing a flag CRYPTO_ALG_OPTIONAL_KEY which indicates that the algorithm has a ->setkey() method, but it is not required to be called. Then set it on all the CRC-32 algorithms. The same also applies to the Adler-32 implementation in Lustre. Also, the cryptd and mcryptd templates have to pass through the flag from their underlying algorithm. This means that all tasks in the system have to be marked one by one as safe to call a new patched function. Safe means when a task is not (sleeping) in a set of patched functions. That is, no patched function is on the task's stack. Another clearly safe place is the boundary between kernel and userspace. The patching waits for all tasks to get outside of the patched set or to cross the boundary. The transition is completed afterwards. The problem is that a task can block the transition for quite a long time, if not forever. It could sleep in a set of patched functions, for example. Luckily we can force the task to leave the set by sending it a fake signal, that is a signal with no data in signal pending structures (no handler, no sign of proper signal delivered). Suspend/freezer use this to freeze the tasks as well. The task gets TIF_SIGPENDING set and is woken up (if it has been sleeping in the kernel before) or kicked by rescheduling IPI (if it was running on other CPU). This causes the task to go to kernel/userspace boundary where the signal would be handled and the task would be marked as safe in terms of live patching. There are tasks which are not affected by this technique though. The fake signal is not sent to kthreads. They should be handled differently. They can be woken up so they leave the patched set and their TIF_PATCH_PENDING can be cleared thanks to stack checking. For the sake of completeness, if the task is in TASK_RUNNING state but not currently running on some CPU it doesn't get the IPI, but it would eventually handle the signal anyway. Second, if the task runs in the kernel (in TASK_RUNNING state) it gets the IPI, but the signal is not handled on return from the interrupt. It would be handled on return to the userspace in the future when the fake signal is sent again. Stack checking deals with these cases in a better way. If the task was sleeping in a syscall it would be woken by our fake signal, it would check if TIF_SIGPENDING is set (by calling signal_pending() predicate) and return ERESTART* or EINTR. Syscalls with ERESTART* return values are restarted in case of the fake signal (see do_signal()). EINTR is propagated back to the userspace program. This could disturb the program, but... * each process dealing with signals should react accordingly to EINTR return values. * syscalls returning EINTR happen to be quite common situation in the system even if no fake signal is sent. * freezer sends the fake signal and does not deal with EINTR anyhow. Thus EINTR values are returned when the system is resumed. The very safe marking is done in architectures' "entry" on syscall and interrupt/exception exit paths, and in a stack checking functions of livepatch. TIF_PATCH_PENDING is cleared and the next recalc_sigpending() drops TIF_SIGPENDING. In connection with this, also call klp_update_patch_state() before do_signal(), so that recalc_sigpending() in dequeue_signal() can clear TIF_PATCH_PENDING immediately and thus prevent a double call of do_signal(). Note that the fake signal is not sent to stopped/traced tasks. Such task prevents the patching to finish till it continues again (is not traced anymore). Last, sending the fake signal is not automatic. It is done only when admin requests it by writing 1 to signal sysfs attribute in livepatch sysfs directory. Most of that stuff is as simple as 'make ->poll() instances return __poll_t and do the same to local variables used to hold the future return value'. Some of the obvious brainos found in process are fixed (e.g. POLLIN misspelled as POLL_IN). At that point the amount of sparse warnings is low and most of them are for genuine bugs - e.g. ->poll() instance deciding to return -EINVAL instead of a bitmap. I hadn't touched those in this series - it's large enough as it is. Another problem it has caught was eventpoll() ABI mess; select.c and eventpoll.c assumed that corresponding POLL### and EPOLL### were equal. That's true for some, but not all of them - EPOLL### are arch-independent, but POLL### are not. The last commit in this series separates userland POLL### values from the (now arch-independent) kernel-side ones, converting between them in the few places where they are copied to/from userland. AFAICS, this is the least disruptive fix preserving poll(2) ABI and making epoll() work on all architectures. As it is, it's simply broken on sparc - try to give it EPOLLWRNORM and it will trigger only on what would've triggered EPOLLWRBAND on other architectures. EPOLLWRBAND and EPOLLRDHUP, OTOH, are never triggered at all on sparc. Unfortunately the design was complex, it's assumptions unstated, and humans are fallible and so while it worked much of the time that design failed to ensure unitialized memory is not copied to userspace. This set of changes is part of a new design to clean up siginfo and simplify things, and hopefully make the siginfo handling robust enough that a simple inspection of the code can be made to ensure we don't copy any unitializied fields to userspace. The design is to unify struct siginfo and struct compat_siginfo into a single definition that is shared between all architectures so that anyone adding to the set of information shared with struct siginfo can see the whole picture. Hopefully ensuring all future si_code assignments are arch independent. The design is to unify copy_siginfo_to_user32 and copy_siginfo_from_user32 so that those function are complete and cope with all of the different cases documented in signinfo_layout. I don't think there was a single implementation of either of those functions that was complete and correct before my changes unified them. The design is to introduce a series of helpers including force_siginfo_fault that take the values that are needed in struct siginfo and build the siginfo structure for their callers. Ensuring struct siginfo is built correctly. The remaining work for 4.17 (unless someone thinks it is post -rc1 material) is to push usage of those helpers down into the architectures so that architecture specific code will not need to deal with the fiddly work of intializing struct siginfo, and then when struct siginfo is guaranteed to be fully initialized change copy siginfo_to_user into a simple wrapper around copy_to_user. Further there is work in progress on the issues that have been documented requires arch specific knowledge to sort out. The changes below fix or at least document all of the issues that have been found with siginfo generation. Then proceed to unify struct siginfo the 32 bit helpers that copy siginfo to and from userspace, and generally clean up anything that is not arch specific with regards to siginfo generation. It is a lot but with the unification you can of siginfo you can already see the code reduction in the kernel" * 'siginfo-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/ebiederm/user-namespace: (45 commits) signal/memory-failure: Use force_sig_mceerr and send_sig_mceerr mm/memory_failure: Remove unused trapno from memory_failure signal/ptrace: Add force_sig_ptrace_errno_trap and use it where needed signal/powerpc: Remove unnecessary signal_code parameter of do_send_trap signal: Helpers for faults with specialized siginfo layouts signal: Add send_sig_fault and force_sig_fault signal: Replace memset(info,...) with clear_siginfo for clarity signal: Don't use structure initializers for struct siginfo signal/arm64: Better isolate the COMPAT_TASK portion of ptrace_hbptriggered ptrace: Use copy_siginfo in setsiginfo and getsiginfo signal: Unify and correct copy_siginfo_to_user32 signal: Remove the code to clear siginfo before calling copy_siginfo_from_user32 signal: Unify and correct copy_siginfo_from_user32 signal/blackfin: Remove pointless UID16_SIGINFO_COMPAT_NEEDED signal/blackfin: Move the blackfin specific si_codes to asm-generic/siginfo.h signal/tile: Move the tile specific si_codes to asm-generic/siginfo.h signal/frv: Move the frv specific si_codes to asm-generic/siginfo.h signal/ia64: Move the ia64 specific si_codes to asm-generic/siginfo.h signal/powerpc: Remove redefinition of NSIGTRAP on powerpc signal: Move addr_lsb into the _sigfault union for clarity ...

A handful of cases in the kernel arguably did just that when using the errno field of siginfo to pass no errno values to userspace. The usage is limited to a single si_code so at least does not mess up anything else. Encapsulate this questionable pattern in a helper function so that the userspace ABI is preserved. Update all of the places that use this pattern to use the new helper function. Signed-off-by: "Eric W. Biederman" <ebiederm@xmission.com>

Some architectures fail to handle all of the cases in in the siginfo union. Some architectures perform a blind copy of the siginfo union when the si_code is negative. A blind copy suggests the data is expected to be in 32bit siginfo format, which means that receiving such a signal via signalfd won't work, or that the data is in 64bit siginfo and the code is copying nonsense to userspace. Create a single instance of copy_siginfo_to_user32 that all of the architectures can share, and teach it to handle all of the cases in the siginfo union correctly, with the assumption that siginfo is stored internally to the kernel is 64bit siginfo format. A special case is made for x86 x32 format. This is needed as presence of both x32 and ia32 on x86_64 results in two different 32bit signal formats. By allowing this small special case there winds up being exactly one code base that needs to be maintained between all of the architectures. Vastly increasing the testing base and the chances of finding bugs. As the x86 copy of copy_siginfo_to_user32 the call of the x86 signal_compat_build_tests were moved into sigaction_compat_abi, so that they will keep running. Signed-off-by: "Eric W. Create a single copy of copy_siginfo_from_user32 that all architectures share, and teach it to handle all of the cases in the siginfo union. In the generic version of copy_siginfo_from_user32 ensure that all of the fields in siginfo are initialized so that the siginfo structure can be safely copied to userspace if necessary. When copying the embedded sigval union copy the si_int member. That ensures the 32bit values passes through the kernel unchanged. Signed-off-by: "Eric W. Biederman" <ebiederm@xmission.com>
