* [codeview] support emitting indirect virtual base class informationBob Haarman2016-10-251-2/+7
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Summary: Fixes PR28281. MSVC lists indirect virtual base classes in the field list of a class, using LF_IVBCLASS records. This change makes LLVM emit such records when processing DW_TAG_inheritance tags with the DIFlagVirtual and (newly introduced) DIFlagIndirect tags. Reviewers: rnk, ruiu, zturner Differential Revision: https://reviews.llvm.org/D25578 llvm-svn: 285130
* DebugInfo: preparation to implement DW_AT_alignmentVictor Leschuk2016-10-201-4/+8
| | | | | | | | | | | | - Add alignment attribute to DIVariable family - Modify bitcode format to match new DIVariable representation - Update tests to match these changes (also add bitcode upgrade test) - Expect that frontend passes non-zero align value only when it is not default (was forcibly aligned by alignas()/_Alignas()/__atribute__(aligned()) Differential Revision: https://reviews.llvm.org/D25073 llvm-svn: 284678

* [codeview] Add DISubprogram::ThisAdjustmentReid Kleckner2016-07-011-11/+11
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Summary: This represents the adjustment applied to the implicit 'this' parameter in the prologue of a virtual method in the MS C++ ABI. The adjustment is always zero unless multiple inheritance is involved. This increases the size of DISubprogram by 8 bytes, unfortunately. The adjustment really is a signed 32-bit integer. If this size increase is too much, we could probably win it back by splitting out a subclass with info specific to virtual methods (virtuality, vindex, thisadjustment, containingType). * [DebugInfo] Add calling convention support for DWARF and CodeViewReid Kleckner2016-06-081-3/+4
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Summary: Now DISubroutineType has a 'cc' field which should be a DW_CC_ enum. If it is present and non-zero, the backend will emit it as a DW_AT_calling_convention attribute. On the CodeView side, we translate it to the appropriate enum for the LF_PROCEDURE record. I added a new LLVM vendor specific enum to the list of DWARF calling conventions. DWARF does not appear to attempt to standardize these, so I assume it's OK to do this until we coordinate with GCC on how to emit vectorcall convention functions. * DebugInfo: Remove MDString-based type referencesDuncan P. N. Exon Smith2016-04-231-3/+3
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Eliminate DITypeIdentifierMap and make DITypeRef a thin wrapper around DIType*. It is no longer legal to refer to a DICompositeType by its 'identifier:', and DIBuilder no longer retains all types with an 'identifier:' automatically. Aside from the bitcode upgrade, this is mainly removing logic to resolve an MDString-based reference to an actualy DIType. The commits leading up to this have made the implicit type map in DICompileUnit's 'retainedTypes:' field superfluous. This does not remove DITypeRef, DIScopeRef, DINodeRef, and DITypeRefArray, or stop using them in DI-related metadata. Although as of this commit they aren't serving a useful purpose, there are patchces under review to reuse them for CodeView support. The tests in LLVM were updated with deref-typerefs.sh, which is attached to the thread "[RFC] Lazy-loading of debug info metadata": http://lists.llvm.org/pipermail/llvm-dev/2016-April/098318.html llvm-svn: 267296
* BitcodeReader: Use getMD/getMDOrNull helpers consistently, almost NFCDuncan P. N. Exon Smith2016-04-231-1/+0
| | | | | | | | | | The only functionality change was removing an error check from the BitcodeReader (and an assertion from DILocation::getImpl) that is already caught by Verifier::visitDILocation. The Verifier is a better place for this anyway, and being inconsistent with other subclasses of MDNode isn't serving anyone. llvm-svn: 267267

* IR: Enable debug info type ODR uniquing for forward declsDuncan P. N. Exon Smith2016-04-191-0/+35
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Add a new method, DICompositeType::buildODRType, that will create or mutate the DICompositeType for a given ODR identifier, and use it in LLParser and BitcodeReader instead of DICompositeType::getODRType. The logic is as follows: - If there's no node, create one with the given arguments. - Else, if the current node is a forward declaration and the new arguments would create a definition, mutate the node to match the new arguments. - Else, return the old node. This adds a missing feature supported by the current DITypeIdentifierMap (which I'm slowly making redudant). The only remaining difference is that the DITypeIdentifierMap has a "the-last-one-wins" rule, whereas DICompositeType::buildODRType has a "the-first-one-wins" rule. For now I'm leaving behind DICompositeType::getODRType since it has obvious, low-level semantics that are convenient for unit testing. llvm-svn: 266786
* IR: getOrInsertODRUniquedType => DICompositeType::getODRType, NFCDuncan P. N. Exon Smith2016-04-191-0/+26
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | Lift the API for debug info ODR type uniquing up a layer. Instead of clients managing the map directly on the LLVMContext, add a static method to DICompositeType called getODRType and handle the map in the background. Also adds DICompositeType::getODRTypeIfExists, so far just for convenience in the unit tests. This simplifies the logic in LLParser and BitcodeReader. Because of argument spam there are actually a few more lines of code now; I'll see if I come up with a reasonable way to clean that up. llvm-svn: 266742
* IR: Use an explicit map for debug info type uniquingDuncan P. N. Exon Smith2016-04-171-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Rather than relying on the structural equivalence of DICompositeType to merge type definitions, use an explicit map on the LLVMContext that LLParser and BitcodeReader consult when constructing new nodes. Each non-forward-declaration DICompositeType with a non-empty 'identifier:' field is stored/loaded from the type map, and the first definiton will "win". This map is opt-in: clients that expect ODR types from different modules to be merged must call LLVMContext::ensureDITypeMap. - Clients that just happen to load more than one Module in the same LLVMContext won't magically merge types. - Clients (like LTO) that want to continue to merge types based on ODR identifiers should opt-in immediately. I have updated LTOCodeGenerator.cpp, the two "linking" spots in gold-plugin.cpp, and llvm-link (unless -disable-debug-info-type-map) to set this. With this in place, it will be straightforward to remove the DITypeRef concept (i.e., referencing types by their 'identifier:' string rather than pointing at them directly). llvm-svn: 266549
* [PR27284] Reverse the ownership between DICompileUnit and DISubprogram.Adrian Prantl2016-04-151-11/+11
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Currently each Function points to a DISubprogram and DISubprogram has a scope field. For member functions the scope is a DICompositeType. DIScopes point to the DICompileUnit to facilitate type uniquing. Distinct DISubprograms (with isDefinition: true) are not part of the type hierarchy and cannot be uniqued. This change removes the subprograms list from DICompileUnit and instead adds a pointer to the owning compile unit to distinct DISubprograms. This would make it easy for ThinLTO to strip unneeded DISubprograms and their transitively referenced debug info. Motivation ---------- Materializing DISubprograms is currently the most expensive operation when doing a ThinLTO build of clang. We want the DISubprogram to be stored in a separate Bitcode block (or the same block as the function body) so we can avoid having to expensively deserialize all DISubprograms together with the global metadata. If a function has been inlined into another subprogram we need to store a reference the block containing the inlined subprogram. Attached to https://llvm.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=27284 is a python script that updates LLVM IR testcases to the new format. http://reviews.llvm.org/D19034 <rdar://problem/25256815> llvm-svn: 266446

* Move the DebugEmissionKind enum from DIBuilder into DICompileUnit.Adrian Prantl2016-03-311-0/+18
| | | | | | | | | | | | | This mostly cosmetic patch moves the DebugEmissionKind enum from DIBuilder into DICompileUnit. DIBuilder is not the right place for this enum to live in — a metadata consumer should not have to include DIBuilder.h. I also added a Verifier check that checks that the emission kind of a DICompileUnit is actually legal. http://reviews.llvm.org/D18612 <rdar://problem/25427165> llvm-svn: 265077

* DI: Reverse direction of subprogram -> function edge.Peter Collingbourne2015-11-051-19/+8
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Previously, subprograms contained a metadata reference to the function they described. Because most clients need to get or set a subprogram for a given function rather than the other way around, this created unneeded inefficiency. For example, many passes needed to call the function llvm::makeSubprogramMap() to build a mapping from functions to subprograms, and the IR linker needed to fix up function references in a way that caused quadratic complexity in the IR linking phase of LTO. This change reverses the direction of the edge by storing the subprogram as function-level metadata and removing DISubprogram's function field. Since this is an IR change, a bitcode upgrade has been provided. Fixes PR23367. An upgrade script for textual IR for out-of-tree clients is attached to the PR. * DI: Set DILexicalBlock columns >= 65536 to 0/unknownDuncan P. N. Exon Smith2015-08-281-0/+3
| | | | | | | | | This fixes PR24621 and matches what we do for `DILocation`. Although the limit seems somewhat artificial, there are places in the backend that also assume 16-bit columns, so we may as well just be consistent about the limits. llvm-svn: 246349
* DI: Disallow uniquable DICompileUnitsDuncan P. N. Exon Smith2015-08-031-8/+6
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Since r241097, `DIBuilder` has only created distinct `DICompileUnit`s. The backend is liable to start relying on that (if it hasn't already), so make uniquable `DICompileUnit`s illegal and automatically upgrade old bitcode. This is a nice cleanup, since we can remove an unnecessary `DenseSet` (and the associated uniquing info) from `LLVMContextImpl`. Almost all the testcases were updated with this script: git grep -e '= !DICompileUnit' -l -- test | grep -v test/Bitcode | xargs sed -i '' -e 's,= !DICompileUnit,= distinct !DICompileUnit,' I imagine something similar should work for out-of-tree testcases. llvm-svn: 243885
* DI: Remove DW_TAG_arg_variable and DW_TAG_auto_variableDuncan P. N. Exon Smith2015-07-311-8/+8
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Remove the fake `DW_TAG_auto_variable` and `DW_TAG_arg_variable` tags, using `DW_TAG_variable` in their place Stop exposing the `tag:` field at all in the assembly format for `DILocalVariable`. Most of the testcase updates were generated by the following sed script: find test/ -name "*.ll" -o -name "*.mir" | xargs grep -l 'DILocalVariable' | xargs sed -i '' \ -e 's/tag: DW_TAG_arg_variable, //' \ -e 's/tag: DW_TAG_auto_variable, //' There were only a handful of tests in `test/Assembly` that I needed to update by hand. (Note: a follow-up could change `DILocalVariable::DILocalVariable()` to set the tag to `DW_TAG_formal_parameter` instead of `DW_TAG_variable` (as appropriate), instead of having that logic magically in the backend in `DbgVariable`. I've added a FIXME to that effect.) llvm-svn: 243774
* DI: Remove unnecessary DICompositeTypeBaseDuncan P. N. Exon Smith2015-07-241-2/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | Remove unnecessary and confusing common base class for `DICompositeType` and `DISubroutineType`. While at a high-level `DISubroutineType` is a sort of composite of other types, it has no shared code paths, and its fields are completely disjoint. This relationship was left over from the old debug info hierarchy. llvm-svn: 243160
* Add a DIModule metadata node to the IR.Adrian Prantl2015-06-291-0/+17
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | It is meant to be used to record modules @imported by the current compile unit, so a debugger an import the same modules to replicate this environment before dropping into the expression evaluator. DIModule is a sibling to DINamespace and behaves quite similarly. In addition to the name of the module it also records the module configuration details that are necessary to uniquely identify the module. This includes the configuration macros (e.g., -DNDEBUG), the include path where the module.map file is to be found, and the isysroot. The idea is that the backend will turn this into a DW_TAG_module. http://reviews.llvm.org/D9614 rdar://problem/20965932 llvm-svn: 241017
* IR / debug info: Add a DWOId field to DICompileUnit,Adrian Prantl2015-05-211-3/+4
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | so DWARF skeleton CUs can be expression in IR. A skeleton CU is a (typically empty) DW_TAG_compile_unit that has a DW_AT_(GNU)_dwo_name and a DW_AT_(GNU)_dwo_id attribute. It is used to refer to external debug info. This is a prerequisite for clang module debugging as discussed in http://lists.cs.uiuc.edu/pipermail/cfe-dev/2014-November/040076.html. In order to refer to external types stored in split DWARF (dwo) objects, such as clang modules, we need to emit skeleton CUs, which identify the dwarf object (i.e., the clang module) by filename (the SplitDebugFilename) and a hash value, the dwo_id. This patch only contains the IR changes. The idea is that a CUs with a non-zero dwo_id field will be emitted together with a DW_AT_GNU_dwo_name and DW_AT_GNU_dwo_id attribute. http://reviews.llvm.org/D9488 rdar://problem/20091852 llvm-svn: 237949
* IR: Give 'DI' prefix to debug info metadataDuncan P. N. Exon Smith2015-04-291-106/+105
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Finish off PR23080 by renaming the debug info IR constructs from `MD*` to `DI*`. The last of the `DIDescriptor` classes were deleted in r235356, and the last of the related typedefs removed in r235413, so this has all baked for about a week. Note: If you have out-of-tree code (like a frontend), I recommend that you get everything compiling and tests passing with the *previous* commit before updating to this one. It'll be easier to keep track of what code is using the `DIDescriptor` hierarchy and what you've already updated, and I think you're extremely unlikely to insert bugs. YMMV of course. Back to *this* commit: I did this using the rename-md-di-nodes.sh upgrade script I've attached to PR23080 (both code and testcases) and filtered through clang-format-diff.py. I edited the tests for test/Assembler/invalid-generic-debug-node-*.ll by hand since the columns were off-by-three. It should work on your out-of-tree testcases (and code, if you've followed the advice in the previous paragraph). Some of the tests are in badly named files now (e.g., test/Assembler/invalid-mdcompositetype-missing-tag.ll should be 'dicompositetype'); I'll come back and move the files in a follow-up commit. llvm-svn: 236120
* DebugInfo: Support up to 2^16 arguments in a subprogramDuncan P. N. Exon Smith2015-04-281-5/+2
| | | | | | | | | Support up to 2^16 arguments to a function. If we do hit the limit, assert out rather than restarting at 0 as we've done historically. This fixes PR23332. A clang test will follow. llvm-svn: 235955
* DebugInfo: Remove 'inlinedAt:' field from MDLocalVariableDuncan P. N. Exon Smith2015-04-151-6/+8
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Remove 'inlinedAt:' from MDLocalVariable. Besides saving some memory (variables with it seem to be single largest `Metadata` contributer to memory usage right now in -g -flto builds), this stops optimization and backend passes from having to change local variables. The 'inlinedAt:' field was used by the backend in two ways: 1. To tell the backend whether and into what a variable was inlined. 2. To create a unique id for each inlined variable. Instead, rely on the 'inlinedAt:' field of the intrinsic's `!dbg` attachment, and change the DWARF backend to use a typedef called `InlinedVariable` which is `std::pair<MDLocalVariable*, MDLocation*>`. This `DebugLoc` is already passed reliably through the backend (as verified by r234021). This commit removes the check from r234021, but I added a new check (that will survive) in r235048, and changed the `DIBuilder` API in r235041 to require a `!dbg` attachment whose 'scope:` is in the same `MDSubprogram` as the variable's. If this breaks your out-of-tree testcases, perhaps the script I used (mdlocalvariable-drop-inlinedat.sh) will help; I'll attach it to PR22778 in a moment. llvm-svn: 235050

| | | | | | | | | As documented in PR23200 (and the FIXMEs I've added to the code here), this logic is fairly broken: it modifies the `LLVMContext` in a way that affects other modules and cannot be serialized to assembly/bitcode. * Verifier: Add operand checks for MDLexicalBlockDuncan P. N. Exon Smith2015-03-301-0/+2
| | | | | | | | | | Add operand checks for `MDLexicalBlock` and `MDLexicalBlockFile`. Like `MDLocalVariable` and `MDLocation`, these nodes always require a scope. There was no test bitrot to fix here (just updated the serialization tests in test/Assembler/mdlexicalblock.ll). llvm-svn: 233561
* LLParser: Require non-null scope for MDLocation and MDLocalVariableDuncan P. N. Exon Smith2015-03-271-0/+2
| | | | | | | | | Change `LLParser` to require a non-null `scope:` field for both `MDLocation` and `MDLocalVariable`. There's no need to wait for the verifier for this check. This also allows their `::getImpl()` methods to assert that the incoming scope is non-null. llvm-svn: 233394
* IR: Change MDFile to directly store the filename/directoryDuncan P. N. Exon Smith2015-02-201-5/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | In the old (well, current) schema, there are two types of file references: untagged and tagged (the latter references the former). !0 = !{!"filename", !"/directory"} !1 = !{!"0x29", !1} ; DW_TAG_file_type [filename] [/directory] The interface to `DIBuilder` universally takes the tagged version, described by `DIFile`. However, most `file:` references actually use the untagged version directly. In the new hierarchy, I'm merging this into a single node: `MDFile`. Originally I'd planned to keep the old schema unchanged until after I moved the new hierarchy into place. However, it turns out to be trivial to make `MDFile` match both nodes at the same time. - Anyone referencing !1 does so through `DIFile`, whose implementation I need to gut anyway (as I do the rest of the `DIDescriptor`s). - Anyone referencing !0 just references an `MDNode`, and expects a node with two `MDString` operands. This commit achieves that, and updates all the testcases for the parts of the new hierarchy that used the two-node schema (I've replaced the untagged nodes with `distinct !{}` to make the diff clear (otherwise the metadata all gets renumbered); it might be worthwhile to come back and delete those nodes and renumber the world, not sure). llvm-svn: 230057
* IR: Fix MDType fields from unsigned to uint64_tDuncan P. N. Exon Smith2015-02-191-6/+6
| | | | | | | | | When trying to match the current schema with the new debug info hierarchy, I downgraded `SizeInBits`, `AlignInBits` and `OffsetInBits` to 32-bits (oops!). Caught this while testing my upgrade script to move the hierarchy into place. Bump it back up to 64-bits and update tests. llvm-svn: 229933

| | | | | | | | | Add missing `nullptr` from `MDSubroutineType`'s operands for `MDCompositeTypeBase::getIdentifier()` (and add tests for all the other unused fields). This highlights just how crazy it is that `MDSubroutineType` inherits from `MDCompositeTypeBase`. llvm-svn: 229926
* IR: Drop scope from MDTemplateParameterDuncan P. N. Exon Smith2015-02-191-11/+11
| | | | | | | | | | Follow-up to r229740, which removed `DITemplate*::getContext()` after my upgrade script revealed that scopes are always `nullptr` for template parameters. This is the other shoe: drop `scope:` from `MDTemplateParameter` and its two subclasses. (Note: a bitcode upgrade would be pointless, since the hierarchy hasn't been moved into place.) llvm-svn: 229791
